  1. 2 hit for Izturis and an RBI That kid is all bat and no glove.
  2. Plus, it's on WGN for everyone to see. Why couldn't it be a CSN game?
  3. When did Wrigley Field start doing the wave? I don't like this.
  4. Restovich has earned a chance to be up with the Cubs, but with Dusty and company they would never play him. He would just rot on the bench as he did for his short period he was up in the beginning of the season. But then again he's not even on the 40 man roster.
  5. Well, no sense in talking about Loretta since you said that you read he is unwilling to come to the Cubs.
  6. Im not sure you could win with that lineup. Loretta would be your leadoff man. I guess the Cubs could go the Mark Grudzielanek route again. I wish I had the paper in front of me where Loretta in 03 was quoted "I wont except a trade to the Cubs". Loretta will be 36 in 07, and im not sure he would sign a deal to be the leadoff man. He excells in the 2 spot. Catalanotto is like having Murton in LF for a full year. Not enough production for a corner outfield spot. The Middle of the lineup is going to be horrible if Lee goes down again. Same problem they are having this season. Pie in CF, probably means your not expecting to win in 07. I prefer to package Pie, for a Impact bat, or proven SP. The Schimdt idea scares the crap out of me. People on here talk about pitchers being overworked, this guy is always seemingly throwing over 100 pitches in a a game. Felipe Alou probably is worse than Baker when it comes to managing a SP. Im not sure I would give him a 3 year deal, to a 33 year old pitcher, who has so much wear and tear on his arm. If your going to go the cheap way for your lineup, and spend it on a SP, sign Zito. He would be 5 years younger than Schmdit. Zito will make 30-35 starts a year, and pitch over 200 innings each year. If im spending money on a SP, im signing Zito. Grudzielanek and Hendry had a pretty nasty parting when Grudz left the Cubs. I don't see an apology forth coming when Grudzielanek will have other teams willing to sign him. Plus, I'm not sure it would even be wise to get him considering he is 36 and his numbers have declined the past three years. All indications are that Schmidt would like to go home and pitch in Seattle. If he goes elsewhere, I would think it would be to one of the winning large market teams (Yanks, Mets, or Red Sox). Zito is the top pitching free agent out there this off season. Yankees, Mets, and Angels seem to be the possible teams. Why would he want to come to Chicago especially after this miserable 2006 season? I don't see the Cubs out spending those other 3 teams.
  7. The Cards avoid losing 9 in a row. If they had the last time they lost 9 straight was in 1980.
  8. Wow, Jim Essian's son is on the Lakeland Tigers. Is it too early to think about Veal moving up to West Tenn since he has only had a couple of months in Daytona?
  9. One more possibility is using Jones and having Murton platoon at RF. I don't think that would happen with Dusty and company. However, a new manager might depending on the manager. I really can't see Soriano coming to the Cubs. I think if he stays in the National League then he will remain with Washington assuming he is willing to have a contract without a NTC which seems to be the stumbling block. If not, I'm guessing he'll be in Anaheim. I do think that Hendry will go after Carlos Lee. But, if Texas wants to retain him which I think they said is their intention then it becomes tough and Hendry will vastly overpay(just a hunch). So best case scenario as I see it: C Barrett 1b DLee 2b Cedeno SS Izturis 3b Ramirez(I think he'll be back, but making more money) LF CLee CF Pierre (I think he'll be brought back) RF Jacque/Murton Edit to add: When I say "best case scenario" I'm not saying this is good. It is just about the best that Hendry can do with what he has, in my opinion.
  10. Well, we decided to pinch-hit for Ohman the previous inning-that's why he was taken out. Plus, if you support the idea of Ohman as a LOOGY then Dusty used him correctly.
  11. Man, that kid is paranoid beyond belief. No team would have given him the money the Cubs did, and then tell him not to pitch, That is complete crap, and he knows it. He is upset his career never took off, and he is bitter about it. I mean even before the draft, Clanton had a questionable character, and this just proves those doubters right. I have no doubt that Clanton is in the wrong, because why is he the only one to come forward and nobody else has? I mean, Christensen, Sisco, and a few others who left the Cubs org under less then good terms, could have back up Clanton's stories. The kid needs to shut up, take the money he Eddie Robinson'd from the Cubs, and enjoy his life. What is the full story on Sisco? What did he do or say when he was in the Cubs' organization?
  12. Are you talking about when Bay took second? If that is the play you're referring to it was because he went out to serve as a relay man as he would had he been playing ss.
  13. They mentioned earlier in the broadcast that since the Cubs have struggled against Duke, Clines is stressing patience with the Cub hitters.
  14. Yes, the Trib did. Bernie Miklasz only gave portions of the quote and omitted the part where he said he would not be interested.
  15. Roger Clemens won wiper fluid for everyone at one of his minor league starts this year.
  16. No, the streak ended last night. So they gave him the day off to rest today.
  17. Here's the latest article about Aramis from the Chicago Sun-Times. No comment on Aram's part, but I'll post the link to the article anyhow considering it is accompanied with a lot of commentary on writer, Chris DeLuca's part.
  18. FWIW, Bill Plaschke wrote about the uniform number in the LA Times. Scott Boras also had something to say.......
  19. I don't know the ins and outs of the whole waiver situation, but is it possible he already knew what it would take since Hendry and Schuerholz are pretty good friends? I agree with Ronnie on this one. A quick phone call and you know what the price could be. Hendry has already said on WGN that they are looking toward next year. Hendry would see a claim on A. Jones as a move for a team in the race. It would be very bad form, breaking the unwritten rules, to put in a claim on Jones. That is a bunch of bull. (not towards what you say, but towards hendry if this is the case) Getting a CF like Jones would help you immensely next year and something that you absolutely have to explore. Who cares if it may make some team cry because they wanted him for a stretch run. True, but it's bad faith if you have no chance of getting him. If Hendry has interest in aquiring hima and there is a chance of working out a deal, then he should have put in a claim. If one call is made and Hendry knows that either he does not have the players the Braves want, or he is just not willing to pay the price-then it would be better to just leave it alone, because there is no need hurting your reputation on a player you weren't going to really have a chance to get anyway. I hope Hendry decides that it is probably worth it and makes the deal as long as Atlanta's price is not absurdly high. I wonder if we will get to know what team claimed him if Atlanta decides to pull Jones back? I'm watching the Nationals/Padres game and the Nationals' announcers, Bob Carpenter and Tom Paciorek, said that the claim was put in(no mention of the team)and Atlanta has pulled Andruw Jones back.
  20. Now the Cardinals are in their second 8 game losing streak this year.
  21. Pirates had a great trio with Bonds, Bonnilla and Van Slyke, and some nice complimentary guys like Lind, Merced, Buechele, and the immortal Dom Slaught. I believe Johnny Ray was their 2B, Pena wat at C, and the Joe Orsulak was the CF'er before Bonds. Where's Larry McWilliams now? I just watched the '84 clincher recently. And ss Dale Berra. He was horrible.
  22. I don't know the ins and outs of the whole waiver situation, but is it possible he already knew what it would take since Hendry and Schuerholz are pretty good friends?
