    Do you think that 28 year old Chone Figgins would be happy about coming to Chicago with Pie in the wings at CF and Aram at 3b(assuming all the contract stuff is taken care of)?

    I don't know, but that's what trades are for. It shouldn't be hard to find a lead-off guy with a .330 OBP who is cheaper than Pierre. If Pierre had more of a recent history of a .350+ OBP, I'd be on board with re-signing him. Leadoff hitters are hard to find. You cant just go out and make a trade for one. Not many teams will deal their leadoff hitter. Matt Murton would be just fine as a leadoff hitter if Pierre didn't come back. Yes, he actually would. I would just then have 2 questions: 1) How does Matt feel about batting leadoff? That's something that we can't really know-some hitters are just not cut out for batting leadoff. From our vantage point, it would be hard to tell if Murton is one of them or if he is comfortable in that role. 2)Who do we sign to play center? I'm not sure what options there are that could be had, or how much it would take. Dave Roberts would be cost efficient until Pie is ready. Roberts is getting old. I don't know how much longer he'll keep up the improvement that he's shown in the last two years, considering his age. How much does he stand to make? Hopefully it would just be for next near and lead to a transition into Pie at CF. I believe as of right now that Roberts makes about 2.3mil for this year compared to Pierre's 6 million.

How is Roberts any better than Pierre? -His obp has been better the past few years. -He draws more walks -He's cheaper It would allow a transition to Pie.

    FWIW, from MadFriars.com.............. I get a kick out of how they refer to the Bellhorn/Blum platoon as Blumhorn. Also, it is being said that the Walker deal was not necessarily a Kevin Towers deal, but more a deal that DePodesta wanted and Towers was willing to give it a shot. I'm not sure if there is any merit to this, but thought I'd throw it out there.

    So would I. Knowing that....what would it take to get Elijah to the Cubs org? Cubs are a family organization. Absolutely no way this happens. Ever. The Cubs drafted Ben Christiansen and considered bringing in Milton Bradley so I'm not sure they're all that "family" oriented. Not to argue, but I'm fairly sure the #1 reason why we ended up not signing Bradley was due to the off-the-field problems. Sad truth is the Cubs care about ticket sales over anything else. It would have been a trade. The Dodgers made the correct move anyhow considering they got Andre Eithier for him.

    He's good, but he doesn't have the upside of Andy Pratt. I just got a chance to turn on the game. So they are on pace to lose to Juan Cruz. Did they lose to him earlier this year in Arizona(i.e. was he credited with the win)? Yes, he threw 5 innings of shut out ball. ok, I couldn't remember. I just remember that it was a 2 game series and the Cubs' starters were Maddux and Hill.

    I think they are trying to create a lineup reflective of the belief that Izturis is here to stay. Any other signings/trades are hope(signing Schmidt etc.). But, they feel there is no hope that Izturis will be gone, so he is included in the 2007 plans.

    I just shot hot coffee out of my nose, thank you. This is the funniest post I've ever read. It could also be the creepiest, I'm not sure. Maybe that's what makes it so damn funny. The thought of bringing Nomar back makes me sick. Yeah he is having a solid year in LA, but he is always injured. He burned the cubs twice in 04, and 05. Cannot count on him for a full season. The only postion where he could stay healthy is at 1B. Last I checked, D-Lee will be the 1B for the Cubs next year. Nomar could probably play with one leg and outproduce Izturis. Wasn't it because of Nomar's Achilles injury that the Cubs picked up Neifi Perez off waivers?

    But how much "D" are they giving up? Who has been playing 3B for them consistently? When I've checked, it's mainly been Bellhorn. I have a lot of love for Bellhorn, but unless a lot has changed, 3B is not his ideal D-position. I'm curious, I really don't know who has been playing 3B for the Padres. Vinny Castilla whom they just released the other day. He was just attrocious offensively. They're just caught between a rock and a hard place in this situation. They should just stick with their plan and split the playing time between Walker and Bellhorn and hopefully are not quick to pull Walker from starts. He'll work things out. I'm sure all they're expecting is for him to make the routine plays. And he can do that once he gets past the initial nervousness.

    This is minor, but I don't think Blanco will be on the bench. I think he makes in the range of 1.5mil now. He is a free agent. I think they'll just bring up Soto.

    I think it was Lewin. Yeah, it was Lewin because he got the job and Harry wanted Chip to take the job. But, if I recall correctly it was offered to Chip and he turned it down. It was then offered to Lewin and Harry had it out for Lewin. Steve Stone is quick to say how misguided Harry was in this situation. The whole thing is detailed in Steve Stone's book, Where's Harry?

    I have no problem with him advocating for Webb as Cy Young thus far. But, a week and a half ago he said that the only competition for the Cy Young would be Glavine and Arroyo.
