  1. I happended to run across this from Chris Constancio when I was reading The Hardball Times. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/can-these-young-pitchers-turn-it-around/
  2. I had to go with other. At the DC hotel bar, Bowen comes in and was not very happy that he was attempting to order room service and no one was answering the phone. So, I'm sitting at the bar and he walks in and calls the bartender over explaining the situation. He was not very happy at all. That being said he is pretty nice guy. He was just a tad bit irritated.
  3. I have to admit, I do find that stat encouraging, because I am having a hard time explaining his two absolutely horrid months this year after being a very good (for average) and patient hitter for his entire career. I guess it could be easily explained in his age, but he was very good at not making outs just last year. I'd like to see what his OBP is over that same span. Yet in July, Kendall's line is 229/229/286 (one K). So if we've been looking at him the last two weeks we have been enamoured with his ability to put the ball in play weakly and not walk. Yup, that sounds about right. Ugh. How many games is that, though? I'm guessing like 11-13? Not sure on the amount of games, but it's 35 at bats.
  4. I would think that Friedman would be worthy of making a top ten list. Or atleast he should be approaching it considering he took over a mess left by LaMar. He has put together an excellent farm system(which he started before taking the GM position). Although some of the off field antics of a few of their prospects isn't good. But, I'm not sure you can pin that on him. While the D'Rays' record isn't good, they're young and on the rise. A couple of moves outside the draft that come to mind are acquiring Kazmir from Minaya & the Mets and the signing of Akinori Iwamura.
  5. Fair is fair. The Sox need a good young outfield prospect from the D'Backs, since they traded Chris Young and Aaron Cunningham to them.
  6. While that is a unique characteristic of Oakland, then it would be within reason to expect his FB% to be high last year too. However, last year was right inline with his career. He has 104 FBs as opposed to 130 all of last year and right around 150 the previous years. I don't know anywhere that tracks pop fouls, but that'd have to be an awful lot of pop fouls this year over last to account for the disparity. Also, I wonder if those would be counted as infield fly balls (most of the extended foul territory is in the IF and rarely do corner OFs make it all the way past the line to make foul catches). Hes right inline with his career on that stat. Has anyone mentioned that Gerald Perry (Kendall's hitting coach last year), was heavily in favor of the trade. Maybe Perry has already pinpointed something that Kendall is not doing or believes he can easily get Kendall turned around? I haven't read many of the articles to see if there are quotes from Perry, but word is that this is a Gary Hughes acquisition. I imagine though that being the hitting coach and working with Kendall last year, Perry had a pretty decent say in the matter, so if Perry wasn't behind it, thge trade probably wouldn't have happened. Actually, if Perry wasn't behind it, Hughes most likely wouldn't have even been scouting Kendall. From today's Suntimes: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/470970,CST-SPT-cub17.article I wonder how long Hughes had been scouting Kendall. Bruce, have any idea? Is that what the three days of discussions is referencing? In an interview on CSN, Hendry mentioned that he got a call from Beane on Saturday offering Kendall. So I assume that started the 3 days of negotiations. That is what Hendry told Len & Bob in the booth yesterday. He did say that Beane contacted him. And that they had been in talks since Saturday. They were finally able to cut the deal yesterday. I'm guessing it took a few days to figure out the financial aspects. Plus, Beane was probably trying his hardest to get Marshall.
  7. Someone was asking about Kendall's BABIP. Here's a breakdown from this year. April .184 May .254 June .296 July .235 Home .274 Away .211 http://firstinning.com/players/Jason-Kendall-a/ Interestingly enough while he had definitely had a bad year, his OBP and SLG have been much worse in Oakland rather than on the road. That being said the numbers this year are still not good on the road but better then what he has done at the coliseum. --------- OBP SLG Home .231 .225 Away .287 .331
  8. I'm not sure if this was posted; I didn't see it anywhere. http://milb.scout.com/a.z?s=381&p=2&c=659104 Wasn't Robinson the player received in the Neifi trade? Had to get rid of Hart. Jason Kendall provides enough grit for one organization.
  9. \:D/ Maybe I could win a popularity contest on the Brewers board. But really, this thread kinda should be made fun of. Even if Braun is arrogant - and I don't know if he is - so what? You can't say that guys like Ramirez, Soriano and Big Z aren't cocky and brash at times. We celebrate when Ramirez hits a ball and watches it for five seconds, but demand that Pujols get drilled when he does the same thing. Every team in baseball has cocky a-holes, and if they happen to be on a rival team, we dislike them. But really, what I don't like about Braun is that he's raking like crazy. He's not Albert Pujols and he'll come back to earth, but yeah... the reason people don't like him is because he's putting up needed offense for a team that we're chasing and is winning close games. As posted earlier this year, I envy the way that the Brewers were built. Doug Melvin did a fantastic job of putting together a club with a good, largely homegrown offense and a deep pitching staff. That's why I picked them to win the division this year. Even if we're able to overtake them, they have a team that is built to win for the next five years. I just hope that they don't win 8-) Nah. Your sig is too big. Anyways I agree with the brashness on all teams. Personally, I don't see it in Braun. But, then again his name is Braun. Now that's just conceited. Seriously though he hits his homers and goes back to the dugout. I just don't see any arrogance there. Of all the teams, I find the Brewers the most interesting when it comes to reading up on their prospects. Although, Tampa Bay is up there too. Plus you get some sensationalistic legal trouble news with Tampa. In my opinion, Cubs fans could only hope that the Cub brass could build a farm system like the Brewers. The Brewers will lose guys to free agency down the road, but they'll have the next guy waiting in the wings to take over.
  10. I was thinking that too. By, the way who was Sunnydoo debating in that infamous "let's acquire Kendall" thread?
  11. Cubs, Wrigley, and Ronnie Woo Woo. You really can't put a price on a "woo" from Ronnie Woo Woo Wickers.
  12. I think that it is only going to get worse.
  13. Unfortunately, from my experience the Cubs have more than a lot of teams.
  14. There was a fan in the stands wearing a green t-shirt. The WCIU broadcast flashed on him after Aram's hit. When they showed him he had his arms out as if to say "What did I do?" It appears that an usher believed he may have interfered in some manner. Not exactly sure how he would have interfered--maybe he threw his beer on the leftfielder or atleast tried. Righetti immediately came on to the field at that time and was pointing out there. Then the umps were looking/signaling out there. Right when that happened the crowd got upset. He may have been ejected whether he was innocent or not.
  15. It's just kind of frustrating that he playing the way he has this season. He was a good prospect that is just putting up outrageous numbers. He has to come back down to Earth. Hopefully, it is soon. I'm just amazed at his defense. From all accounts he is someone who has shaky defensive skills at third base. But, he has played defense well. The scary part is they have another good young third base prospect in Mat Gamel. The Brewers have a system of neverending prospects.
  16. Me, too. Look at the job the team has done with Marquis. I trust the Cubs with reclamation projects. Marquis has gone 1-4 with a 5.80 ERA since May 9th (i think that's the date, whenever he went 5-1). He sucks. He's being sarcastic.
  17. No, Rich and Koyie Hill for Kendall and Barton. Barton sucks. He doesn't hit well. :D
  18. But none of those options are proven. If we could get a guy like Biggio - maybe a first-year Hall of Famer - there would be no stopping us from making the playoffs. Biggio is a veteran. He's played in the World Series. He won't crack under pressure during the stretch run. Theriot and Fontenot will probably lose control of their bowels if the Cubs are playing meaningful games in September. I like the Kendall move, but we need more proven veterans to catch the Brewers. Biggio? Are you kidding me? Come on God (allegedly God) gave you a brain for a reason. Use it. He's being sarcastic because he hates bringing in Kendall.
  19. +1 I've changed my mind. It's a good thing. What do you guys think it would take to get Craig Biggio from Houston now that Burke is going to get more playing time at 2B? If we could get Biggio, we could have an infield full of all-stars with Kendall, Lee, Biggio, Izturis, and Ramirez. Biggio could go back to catcher, too. It'll give Kendall some rest.
  20. We won't be able to take on additional salary now that we've got JASON KENDALL! Not that we'd need to take on additional salary, because now we've got JASON KENDALL! The most I've heard we're taking on is around $3.5 million. The A's and Pirates are paying the rest. Judging from McDonough's comments, I don't think that will hamstring us. Why did the Pirates trade Kendall to the A's and in particular why did the Pirates take on so much of Kendall's salary for so many years?
  21. yeah, but that begs the question, how does ravech even know to mention marshall? I hope he is just guessing, but I fear that Hendry would give Sean away to Beane. Jim shouldn't be allowed in the same room as Billy. Hey, we got Freddie Bynum from Beane last year! Jimbo got the man he wanted in Boom Boom Bynum.
  22. Why did the Pirates trade Kendall to the A's and in particular why did they take on so much of his salary for so many years?
  23. LOL!! I was in the same camp... Nevermind for me also. To paraphrase him: This is the same team that lost 96 games last year, all that changed is the attitude. He forgot the addition of a few key players... Yeah, except the only 2 starters left from last year are DLee and Aramis. Sutcliff is an idiot. And Lee was out for most of the year. But mostly, the team is winning because they have a new attitude! It's even sadder that Sutcliffe was part of the Cubs' spring training coaching staff and doesn't even know that the team is different than last year.
