  2. Does anyone wanna take a stab at this? Rob? Nilo? Haltz? I feel like I'm missing something. I wish I had a meph signal or something. He'd tell me where I f'd up. then make fun of you on his blog then deny it was him I think you meant to post that in the comments section of nsbblol. pardon us here though, we're trying to talk about baseball.
  3. we'll see what happens, but I hope Fukudome ends up being our 3rd best, and not because of a Soriano regression or injury. I'm going to homer for Fukudome all season. i know, i know, SPRING TRAINING, but i just am totally in love with what i've seen so far.
  4. regression to the mean
  5. face swells to beet-red, and steam begins pouring out of ears while accompanied by a train whistle
  6. What's a cap? A hat someone earns for playing on the English national team?
  7. you're going to be flushing as much money down the toilet per year on a player like pierre or drew as you are on soriano until the last couple of years of his contract. That doesn't make the practice any less ridiculous.
  8. Most of the lineup is going to be bad, but 2-3-4-5 is going to be very very good. we'll revisit this statement at the end of the season.
  9. And here I was pretending he never really had a chance anyway
  10. All of this because he's unlikely to ever steal 40 bases in a single season again. LOL. You're right. It's not just this. I'm projecting some of my other disappointments with Sori on to this recent story. Such as? that's between him and sori IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

  12. yes but as long as he plays on a team that isn't filled with a lineup that hits like starting pitchers, he'll be a very valuable player. That wasn't the question. Of course he's valuable.
  13. /laugh-cry I was getting a mtn. dew in the law building just before class when I overheard some knucklehead lauding Tony LaRussa's stick-to-it-ness re: Izturis as the starting SS. I briefly considered slapping him but just chuckled as I walked off to class.
  14. Maybe they traded for Brian Roberts. I kinda of doubt that, because they don't have the prospects (or do they have any prospects at all) to pull of a Roberts trade. My guess is any trade between the WS/O's would start off with either Poreda or Broadway (or knowing the O's prolly both), prolly would have to include Richar, and maybe either Brian Anderson, Ryan Sweeney, or Jerry Owens. And knowing Williams, he prolly would offer 3/4 of those players for Roberts. My guess is...the White Sox releasing Uribe, has no direct ties to the White Sox trying to acquire Roberts. I think it is just to open up 2b for Ramirez and Richar. Yea, I was joking. I know it wasn't obvious though, so, my bad. maybe you should stop telling "jokes" there dummy. you're confusing the smart people.
  15. I haven't even voted yet.
  16. it shouldn't matter, the other guy is better. you keep saying it, but i haven't seen you try to prove it. i know, because i don't really know how to prove it. then how can you say so definitively that one guy is better than the other? i guess i shouldn't have said it with as much certainty, but i feel strongly that i am right about this. feel free to prove me wrong. Well, my first thought was that there's not enough information. My second thought is: it depends. If I was forced to hazard a guess, based on an "all things being equal"/league-average lineups and opposition, that the HR guy would "create" more runs, and thus be more valuable, despite creating more outs. I say that because even if tango's data is true and the HR guy K's all this other AB's, you don't subtract the run value of the K from the run value of the HR, because the run value of the HR is still there. This is where line-up "position" matters, because say, top-of-the-order guys who play a bunch of games are going to average close to 5 PA's a game, but if they're at the bottom, they're going to be closer to 4 PA's per game. by my rudimentary calculations, the HR guy ((162)(1.397)) is more valuable until the BB guy gets to 701 PA's (226.314/.323), at which point the latter begins to create more runs.
  17. o wait maybe that's the taco bell i ate
  18. 180. Kelvim Escobar 181. Chad Cordero 182. Luke Scott 183. Ian Snell 184. Mike Napoli 185. Hank Blalock (i've got a gut feeling)
  19. has billy beane written a moneyball for soccer yet? i need the inside track on the undervalued market commodities.
  20. oh deuce, maybe not
  21. I thought maybe I'd get a pass because it's anatomically correct or something. It's not technically "profane" by my super subjective interpretation of the dictionary definition.
  22. You want help filling out your roster? Yeah. When is the draft? I'm going to fart around on the mls site for a little bit and see what I can figure out, and what some of my initial questions should be and I'll post them here.

  24. i'm going to go with torn and swollen [expletive] as the worse injury. pie was literally back to teabagging sori just days after his operation
  25. Wood actually does a decent job of holding runners. Nah not from what I remember. The way he throws across his body, his slower delivery motion and with his propensity to throw sliders in the dirt when he is not fully warmed up, I can see guys running on him. I'll have to check on those stats though and see what the steal ratio is on him. Marmol has a lot more of that quick, whiplike Juan Cruz'ish snap delivery that would be harder to run on. ahh yes, the all-important and oft-cited "steal ratio" for closers
