  1. well i guess the only way to rectify this is to have bradgelina adopt ernie banks
  2. i imagine that this would have at least some isolated effect, but the costs politically and economically seem to far outweigh the very limited benefits it may provide. either way, the city should prepare for a riot
  3. i think the right thing would have been to let the child rot in foster care i propose a new law concerning adoption: if you might die, you are not allowed to adopt.
  4. with disappearing ink, i hope you mean
  5. one thing that's different is that A Bug's Life is good not this again. just because a movie is 2 1/2 hours beyond the limits of your attention span does not mean it's a "bad" movie. but anyway, the basic premise is similar (distraught group seeks warriors to help fight off oppressive others), but diverges from Kurosawa's classic in some pretty obvious ways, most notably it's almost completely different beyond the basic premise.
  6. there are similarities
  7. so, nothing like the Communist overthrow of the Bourgeoisie. all jokes aside, I earnestly believe you're looking for something that isn't there. In general, the Pixar films stick to rather basic conceptual frameworks. In this case, A Bug's Life is a simple tale about a group of oppressed individuals overcoming their oppressors. You could probably shoehorn many historical analogues into this framework, from American Revolutionaries to, as you assert, communists. Hell, you could probably fit Jesus in there somewhere if you were so inclined. That being said, I really need to see this one again. I'm moving it towards the top of my netflix queue.
  8. Can you and Derwood just put each other on ignore already? The snide remarks back and forth are getting really old. they are? and here I was thinking that it was the most entertaining part of this thread.
  9. that's kind of a stretch. I haven't seen it in a while, but I think the metaphor is much more general than that. The ants have their own ordered society, so they don't really fit into a strict "proletariat" mold, and the grasshoppers or katydids or whatever those things are don't wear culottes, so they clearly aren't the bourgeoisie. either way, it's a tired metaphor Monsters Inc. ftw
  10. Monsters Inc. is not only the best Pixar movie, it's one of the best all time kid movies that aren't too mindless for parents to watch as well. Toy Story is not far behind though, so don't eat me alive.
  11. I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
  12. I was thinking something more along the lines of the Stay-Puft marshmallow man distributing his marshmallow-y goodness all over NYC, but that works too
  13. PAP, by the admission of the BP crew, isn't all that great at predicting pitcher injury. It's more food for thought than anything.
  14. do you get mad when you go to a horse race and the horse doesn't interact with you? because the same dynamic is in play. they owe you nothing. not a wave, not a signature, not a feeling of fulfillment. if they are paid to be on a baseball team and you paid to see that baseball team play, as long as a baseball game happens, their obligation to you is fulfilled. there is not some intangible world whereby you are automatically entitled to interrupt them in the course of their daily lives because you derive some level of self-importance (and monetary gain) from them acknowledging you.
  15. and it just seems that it's more of the same with the hating of guys who "don't play defense". who cares? they mash the f out of the ball. that's awesome. watching some guy make a routine grounder is booring. in fact, the one benefit of not having the dh is that those guys still play, except they're error machines. frankly (heh), the more Frank Thomas is able to extend his career, the happier I am. When I was a young buck and a bunch of people failed to inform me that I was supposed to hate everything pale hose, Frank Thomas was one of my favorite players. the longer he is able to contribute to his team and to his already illustrious career, the better, as far as i'm concerned.
  16. "managing" usually involves ruining a team's chances to score, rather than improving them. And you still need a bench, you just use them less. That's a good thing.
  17. haha
  18. oh it's not enough for guys like us to say "ryan theriot is a back-up at best", we go the extra mile and say that if he becomes a back-up, the guy who he's backing up should be better than him as well.
  19. This sounds completely nonsensical. not if you're a forward thinker like me and mlk
  20. I don't know or care whether leadoff is a position or not as that is semantics. I do know you must have capable on base players at the top & we don't have that. Roberts is clearly one of the best in the game & I feel would provide a huge boost to a struggling lineup. The Cubs have scored almost half a run more per game than they did last year, when they finished 8th. They're on pace for 833 runs, which would have finished third in the NL a year ago. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?! THIS LINEUP IS STRUGGLING AND THEY NEED A BOOST OF VITAMIN ROBERTS. all this talk of vitamin roberts boosters is making me wet
  21. I agree with the sentiment that both leagues should be under the same rule structure. However, i think having pitchers hit almost always makes the game crappier, less exciting, and less fun to watch. I think the dh rule should be modified somehow to limit its use, but in a way that still allows it to be a factor in games. I don't particularly care for some ol' time-y snobbish principle about how "the game should be played". All that ultimately matters is that the game is played, not some strange ideal concocted back when people were actually afraid that the south might rise again.
  22. or, "especially if he payed to be there and they didn't". If i was all moneyed up i wouldn't want some dirty proletarians clogging up my sightlines and stinking up my air and whatnot, that's why i would have payed so much for my tickets. oh, i mean, what a shame that those people can't endlessly harass a fellow human being going about their everyday lives in order to get them to write their name down on some worthless piece of garbage so it can be sold on ebay or collect dust in the rec room or whatever. what a greedy bastard that owner is.
  23. well shoot i guess they're basically eliminated, what with 7 whole losses. might as well give up now.
