  1. It seems a lot harder to actually attempt to compare them, since they're completely different. Other than the fact that they're both play by play guys for the Chicago Cubs. That's about the only thing. Well, apparently, his "comparison" is that Len Kasper sucks and Pat Hughes is awesome. Isn't that good enough? (Note - Len is awesome) It's not a mutually exclusive proposition. They both can be, and in fact are, awesome. (that's not directed at you David)

  4. History of whiny Cubs fans: 1928: Second deck added; fans complain that park is ruined due to obstructed views, apocalypse must be near 1937: Bleachers/Scoreboard added; fans complain that 'true fans' keep score themselves and don't need someone to do it for them, apocalypse must be near 1988: Lights added; fans complain that 'real baseball' is played in the sunshine, apocalypse must be near 2008: New Cubs owner says naming rights available; fans complain of 'tradition' and 'history', apocalypse must be near
  5. Nope, blame your Pal John McDonough (and his lacky Jay Blunk) for the UA signs in the outfield. Knew as soon as MacPhail was gone and no longer there to stop him that something would go on those outfield doors. Was chomping at the bit as many as five years ago wanting to put Nike swooshes on the outfield doors and was shut down. bitter much?
  6. 73. Dan Uggla 74. Gary Sheffield 75. Jonathan Paplebon 76. Daisuke Matsuzaka 77. Hunter Pence 78. Tim Lincecum 79. Rich Hill 80. Nick Markakis
  7. history matters to some of us lol it does! I'm sure it does. That's not why its funny. It's funny because it's a ridiculous thing to say.

  9. Gonna miss this one because of class. Stinks too because it's one of the few that I'm going to be able to get down here.
  10. The obvious comparison to Wrigley naming the stadium after himself is all the various incarnations of Busch Stadium. Same thing. People want to make the distinction that where the Cubs play is named after the man, not the company, as if there is some monumental difference. There isn't. You're just saying that there is because you have this fantasy about baseball in the sunshine, loveable losers, and getting embarrassingly drunk in one of the most expensive ways possible. Meanwhile the rest of us don't really care about all of this crap, we just want a good baseball team. Its a freaking building - an old, crappy one at that - and you're crying because they might change the name?
  11. And FTH is this, exactly? feigned ignorance
  12. I hate "wrigley field" shirts with every fiber of my being.
  13. yes I always thought of it cubs:wrigley as greeks:parthenon. or even egyptians:pyramids.
  14. Yeah, it's all boho and crap now. Gentrification Love that site. Good to see it here, courtesy of Surly McSulkypants. NEW HANDLE, STAT

  16. Do you realize that Hancock killed himself in a rental SUV, because he was drunk and wrecked his own car 3 days earlier at 5:30AM? He was late for the Thursday day game, claiming he overslept because he had a new mattress and LaRussa merely fined him $500. Way to fix the problem, LaRussa. Yeah, he should have fined him $750!
  17. Because a full 3/4's of their identities as fans revolve around constructing various reasons why Cubs fans aren't real baseball fans. And boy would I love to see that the attendance record for that place was set by Cubs fans. Glorious, I tell you.
  18. I dunno, I would think it would be the opposite. There have been a gazillion games in Wrigley, and when it's all said and done, there's going to be a gazillion more. But if/when this transpires, it's going to be probably the only chance in you're lifetime you'll have to see Cubs home games not in Wrigley. That seems more rare and precious than just doing the stock 'trip to wrigley' that every cubs fan has done. PLUS, you get the satisfaction of completely emasculating dbag white sox (the ones that are dbags) fans. It's a win-win Cuse. Consider it. why would white sox fans be at the game that day? what?
  19. yikes I know, and with such an important game on the line too what's scary is that one or two things go wrong and we're looking at that in a game that DOES matter i think the fake freakout is more notorious on this board than the fake rally. haha, which reminds me, the other day I was thinking to myself, "man I can't wait till the season starts so everyone stops flipping out on every word" and then I remembered who I was thinking about, and how it will only get worse. I can't wait for the offseason. Okay. So, why do you come here again? Because every so often, good conversation happens here amidst the gratuitous post-padding of quoting with no response and replying in emoticons.
  20. ....what am I missing here? no more than usual
