  1. yeah but what if you subtract all the games they lost???
  2. absolutely terrifying
  3. yeah but what if they're not???
  4. that's a lot of pitchers per plate appearance
  5. it's a special kind of stupid that thinks that replacing coghlan's bat with ross/teagarden is a good idea
  6. what? he's 38th in runs allowed
  7. first of all, any al yellon's or such coming in here after a particularly brilliant stretch of games for arietta is pathetic. especially those that didn't put their voice on record. i'll admit some delight in reading the wrongness herein, however, i think most of it was wrong for the right reasons the unfortunate part was the reminder of how unabatedly miserable certain posters were/are. like, lighten the [expletive] up fellas
  8. you're kind of wrong. rizzo is putting up a better age 25 season than goldschmidt did plus for no reason at all, i think goldschmidt is going to do the travis hafner disappearing act in a year or two
  9. it's a convenient narrative, but a) 5 years is kind of a while ago and b) his actual sucking immediately follows his back injury and subsequent surgery
  10. it's not that weird. his sex scandal was five years ago, after which he regained the no. 1 ranking for some time. it has nothing to do with present-day tiger woods the creepy part is the delight at which people point out his struggles. almost in the way a white sox fan delights in any cubs failure, real or perceived
  11. tiger of old was arguably the best golfer ever, to return to that is impossible. and i don't buy the knee injury thing because he was really good again after that. i think the flag hit/rules controversy at the masters was the genesis of his current dance with the drain. his short game is total garbage. he can't score to save his life i look at how great mcilroy, spieth, and fowler are, in particular, and it's hard to even care about tiger's struggles. the infatuation with it is creepy
  12. i just want some bats ya'll can we get some bats?
  13. he needs to buy whatever remaining time butch harmon has left
  14. is frazier drinking sriracha? what a badass
  15. how is a 4.3% walk rate "poor"???
  16. and clearly, everyone here was really into the indisputable fact that he beats women for pleasure
  17. nothing against spieth, but i'm rooting for fowler

    Castro

Errors do matter some, and that stat is particularly lol-worthy. He might be better than Castro, but like Sofa said, it's probably negligible. Plus, Castro could be a kick-ass second baseman for all we know. the only thing lol-worthy is citing an 11 game sample size as evidence of anything I mentioned his 52 games in the Majors last year as well. Not huge samples, but we might need to back off on the "very good defender" stuff until he shows us he is one, that's all. by the same token, perhaps we should back off the "difference is negligible" stuff until he shows it. the book on him is plus defense. the manager of the team wanted him on the opening day roster in part because of his defense. over the course of a season, i think his defense is better than castro's, and he still has some time to improve that said, i'm not advocating for anything. just pointing out that his defense is better than castro's, potentially significantly so

russell is in another world. baez does seem to be prone to lapses, but errors are a poor measure of one's defensive prowess. scouts consider him a plus fielder and the cubs are really high on his defense

javy's defense is very good I know. castro's is not

    javy's defense is very good
  24. also 3b gives uzr the fits. it will probably hate bryant next year that said, wRC+ gives the edge to rizzo even accounting for bryant's fewer plate appearances
  25. i bet those guys have to dictate their tweets via dragon speech recognition software
