    update? Well last night ended up being on the strange side. I told my buddy about the slumpbuster thing so we went to this bar called Hangar 9. For those of you not familiar with Carbondale night life, when you take a chick home from the Hanger, it's called a Hangar-bang. Usually some pseudo-indie chick who says stupid things and likes bands that never play in venues larger than a closet. Anyhow, so we get there and i'm trying to pick one but since it was raining the choices were slim. So anyway, I finally settled on a couple when out of nowhere during my game of pool, this pizza-faced whale leans over the table in this pathetic attempt at a seductive pose which led me to nearly throw up. Once she noticed the look on my face she got all red, turned around and walked away. But the damage was done, I had lost any and all of my appetite for some dirty love. Pretty disappointing, so... sorry guys. We'll see what happens tonight. Edit: grammar

    It's not so much 'care', it's more like it's just entertaining to see them attempt to piece together sentences in some sort of logical fashion.

    Better yet, we could just tell Marquis we'll cut him if he doesn't give it up. Or even better, we could just cut him anyway. Why? Marquis eats six innings for lunch every five days. He's no Mad Dog but he gets it done for the most part. Eating six innings for lunch doesn't mean much when he craps out 5 runs in the process. Well FWIW, he hasn't done that in 2/3rds of his starts. Though, he appears to be trending downward as he's done it more often than not recently.

    I really don't see how Dunn's skill set (hitting the ball hard and plate patience) can be projected to disappear in a couple of years.

    Granted, however, firing a guy after one bad season coming off a good season seems short-sighted. Should Jockety be fired for the season the Cardinals have crapped out this year? Your point makes much more sense if you say 'after' '06 rather than 'before'.

    Hopefully the Cubs can put the awful showings of the last two days behind them and actually show up to play tomorrow. If not, we could be in very bad shape.

    So he should have been fired after putting together a pretty good team in '04 and a semi-decent one in '05? I'm definitely not a Hendry fan, but your point of view seems a bit extreme.

    I dunno, while I enjoy the thought of being able to bring Sammy back for a playoff run and hoping that he can contribute and allow the Cubs to give him a proper send-off, I'm pretty mixed to the idea when I begin to measure my reaction. He's pretty good against lefty's, cheap, serviceable in the field. On the other hand I'd have to read a bunch of moranic posts about how he's blocking Murton, when it seems pretty obvious though not necessarily 100% conclusive, that Murton seems to suffer from the Jeremy Giambi effect and thus is most valuable when accruing significant playing time, i.e., not platooning with Cornelius.

    I got into a big discussion with a good friend of mine and huge Bears fan about Rex a few weeks ago. His stance was that he just sucks and will never be any good, and I kept attempting to point out that a few games aside, Rex was pretty darn good, and a couple of points he was what I can only qualify as being 'awesome'. I dunno, maybe I've just got some serious man-love blinding me to his shortcomings/pitfalls, but I think Rex is only going to be better this season.

    That's sort of my point. Hendry is responsible for a bunch of terrible moves, but he has made good ones also. What has Krivskey ever done? put together a team that, in 2006, finished 14 games ahead of hendry's team with half the payroll? That strikes me as more blind-luck than testament to his ability to oversee a major league ballclub.

    Yeah, I consider Bowen for Kendall as being more offensive than Barrett for Bowen. Maybe Hendry has a ocd-esque fascination with catchers who have redundant letters in their last names.

    I guess I'd have to look more closely, but off-hand he is responsible for bringing in Garcia (now with Phils - so add-on Gavin Floyd and whoever else they received), Vazquez, Thome, Iguichi, Podsednik, Dye and a multitude of bench players and relievers. I am sure there are more. He also allowed Thomas, Ordonez, and Lee to go, all with a great deal of acrimony if I recall correctly. Did he draft Crede? Jenks? McCarthy? Anderson? Well, I'll dive in a little deeper. Good: -Vazquez -Thome -Dye Bad: -Podsednik (for Carlos Lee lmao)(REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD) -Grindy McFootball-Punter (what a waste of money, even if he had stayed healthy.) Meh: -letting go of Thomas and Ordonez. There were legitimate reasons as to why Williams did this, basically health/durability issues. Plus, the acquisition of Thome made Thomas redundant, though in my mind I'd probably prefer Thome/Thomas over Thome/Konerko. -Tadahito Iguchi. (3.1 WARP1 in '05) I'd assume he'd have to be given at least some credit for the drafting and development of Crede, Jenks, and most importantly, Mark Buerhle. On the flip side, I think he's made a few mistakes along the way, particularly in his decisions involving Anderson. Drafting his son was pretty funny. Stop being so rational.

    I dunno, I think pointing out Krivsky's ineptitude is worthwhile in this discussion. I think lumping Hendry with him is a bit unfair and on the cheap side, but not outrageous considering the opinions of Hendry on this board.

    Well, I guess the line here would be that he was just getting something his manager valued and thought the team was lacking. Not much of a defense considering that to most it was pretty obvious that Pierre wasn't worth the price we paid. The best I can say is that at least he realized that signing Pierre would have been moranic, especially at that price. Though, he followed not overpaying Pierre with overpaying Soriano. That was the worst one in my opinion, as I don't really see a problem with trading away Maddux in principle, just what he got from it that was bad. I also don't see the Barrett/Bowen trade as being a 'negative', more a wash than anything. Furthermore, the positive weight of the Ramirez/Lofton and the Garciaparra/Murton trades, though Garciaparra didn't work out, still outweigh the negatives presented here. If Hendry is good at anything, it is definitely player acquisition via trades. I think the Grudz/Karros is the cherry on top. That was a pretty lopsided trade.
