  1. Izzy just gave up the lead. Started the 8th with a one run lead. Single, walk, error on Isringhausen. Tie game.
  2. In his small sample size, Edmonds is hitting .333/.333/.333/.667 . Not sure how that's necessarily proving anything about being better or worse than Reed Johnson or Felix Pie. lol...fair enough. That's those biases I was mentioning. I was making a few assumptions about future performance...:)
  3. When the opposing pitcher is right-handed, I question half of No. 1. I'll rephrase. Edmonds is not better than a Johnson/Pie platoon.
  4. Yeah I know, right. Reed Johnson would NEVER leave 4 men on base! How many times did Reed Johnson bat 6th? Because I'm sure Edmonds demanded that Lou bat him 6th. Seriously, it just sounds like everyone is taking their problems with Lou's stupidity out on Edmonds. And quite frankly, it's rather annoying. I love the new Cedeno. I won't deny there's biases...there absolutely are...but here's the problems: 1) Edmonds is not better than Reed Johnson or Felix Pie. 2) Hendry and Piniella are treating him like he is. 3) Admittedly extremely small sample size, but Edmonds is on his way to proving #1 is true. I think Hendry and Piniella get their share of the blame.

  6. He has been for a while. I think he's just afraid of hurting it and is favoring it. I don't think he'll ever be 100% running like he used to.
  7. I'm gonna be happy with a walk from D-Lee right now.
  8. 90% cheers. And some fans were standing and cheering. Not those of us in Internet-land, Bruce...oh no....not us... :P
  9. How in the world do people keep throwing fastballs down the middle to Soriano on the first pitch?
  10. If that solo home run is by Edmonds, I'm curious how some people will accept it. I'm pretending that he's Matt Murton.
  11. how's the math today? 12 outs, four have been used up while he's at-bat. Right? 2 AB's...he got a single and a dp.
  12. ... HI DAVE OTTO! I thought Ron was supposed to be back by now.
  13. Edmonds could be Babe Ruth the rest of the season and I'll still feel icky.
  14. Maddux is gonna carve him up all day long.
  15. Gameday does on mlb.com...but it's all flash, so I can't snag it.
  16. That was just a bad luck inning right there.
  17. The first Animal House reference was ok...the second one was dumb, and was simply an attempt to tie it back to that movie again in any way possible. I didn't even like the first reference. If Angelo was in anyway acting like everything was fine and dandy with Grossman, sure. But he's on a one year contract. He was nearly let go. He was demoted. They looked at QBs and didn't see anything of value in the draft (a perfectly reasonable analysis). There were no decent veteran replacements. He's not saying all is well. He's saying, our QB position is up in the air. I just meant that at least the reference made sense if you believe as the author does. The second reference was just to talk about the movie again and actually didn't correlate at all.
  18. The first Animal House reference was ok...the second one was dumb, and was simply an attempt to tie it back to that movie again in any way possible.
  19. The Pirates sent 4 batters to the plate in the first. One hit a HR. Piniero threw 8 pitches. Eight!!! That's some epic patience.
  20. Thanks Bruce. How do you feel about this Edmonds move? It's a low-risk move. Worth a try although I said in my blog I'd take a pass if it were me. They're going to assign Dave Keller full time to Pie in Iowa. Let's just see what happens. I know that Lou is a little....sensitive...when it comes to questioning his lineups...but is there a reason that he's hesitant to put fukudome up higher in the order to take advantage of the OBP? Is it just because he like Ramirez with that protection?
  21. I believe he's guaranteed about $4.5m. The highest paid kicker angle is not overplayed. Just because the cap is going up doesn't mean you have to overpay a kicker who can't kick for a lick from distance. The Bears put a tremendous about of effort into special teams. They have a highly compensated long snapper and more than most teams emphasize coverage units and returns. Gould is the weak link on kickoffs, and they have no faith in him from anything beyond 45. He was fine as an undrafted free agent, but it's a joke to make him the highest paid before he was even a free agent. A lot of this is unprovable conjecture. Can you provide evidence that the Bears emphasize special teams more than other teams or that this is the reason why the kicking game has been excellent rather than Gould himself? Gould is not the mediocre kicker you're making him out to be. You're over weighting the need to be able to kick LONG field goals above the effectiveness of making reasonable attempts at a high clip (which Gould is among the very best in the NFL at). And Gould has been just fine on kickoffs. He's not consistently booming it out of the back of the end zone but our coverage units have been able to make up for it. If he's a weak link it hasn't manifested itself negatively. Throwing around words like "a joke" just reeks of off season histrionics that should be reserved for the fact that we have two dreadful options at quarterback. smart..smart...smart...DUMB Yeah...I was right with him until that last part.
