  1. I think D-lee has taken more of a slugger mentality this year. He had his bad year after his wrist injury, and I think decided to take some big rips at some pitches he might normally let go by. It's resulted in more homers and a lower OBP, which fortunately has coincided with an overall increase in team OBP, so it's been masked. But I think it's also resulted in a lot of outs that he normally otherwise wouldn't make.
  2. Um, the phrase is "moo point" No, it's "moot point" http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/moot_point If this was an inside joke or something else that went over my head, forgive me. No, it's moo point. Duh. Like a cow's opinion. It doesn't matter. beautiful The rare Friends reference on NSBB.
  3. Boy he's trying to top himself every week. After bashing the Cubs for playing weak schedule, he comes up with this fine piece of journalism... I read the bold and immediately thought whaaaaaa??? They don't have a rookie in their rotation, and surely they aren't replacing one of their starters right now... What Steve was TRYING to say is that this is the 7th Cardinals rookie (position or pitcher) to make their debut this season. Way to just completely butcher the facts Steve.
  4. Outstanding comparison. He had ridiculous potential just like Prior. And just like Prior, his rookie season made it look like he'd actually live up to that potential. I'm fairly sure Fidrych won Rookie of the Year, and Prior almost certainly would have in 2003 if he had qualified. http://i.cdn.turner.com/sivault/multimedia/photo_gallery/0805/most.unusual.si.covers/images/1977-fidrych.jpg

    Um...holy cow. I didn't realize the R7's were down to $150!
  6. Where did this "Maddux gives Edmonds advice about his batting stance" rumor come from?
  7. Mike Brown should really make playing the whole season his goal above all else. How huge would that be to have a consistent starting safety that was worth a damn...? Where do I put my money on Benson looking spectacular in camp and then being very mediocre/bad in the regular season?
  8. I've done the Devry park and ride, and thought it was great. We're always coming from out of town, so the quick access to the interstate (packed though it may be) is very handy. Yes, the bus is packed after the game, but so is everything. I like not having to deal with around the ballpark traffic...let the bus driver do that. And the Devry park and ride is much, much cheaper than any of the parking options close to the park.
  9. There's two Cubs related articles on Denverpost.com today (mostly fluff pieces), and one had a nice little graphic about the Cubs lack of historical success. Nothing really new here, but I thought it was worth sharing. http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_9408794 http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_9408798 http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site36/2008/0528/20080528_112408_ChartCubs052908.jpg
  10. I'm sure it's different for each person, but I didn't hate Oakley like I hate Edmonds. Oakley was part of those Knicks teams, but he wasn't John Starks (who is the comparison I'd make to Edmonds). Oh yeah...duh...I completely forgot Starks was on the Bulls. That's a MUCH better comparison. Hopefully a few years removed I'll forget Edmonds was on the Cubs too.
  11. They play the Pirates though. What? You do know we play the Rockies the next four games right? I think he meant the Cards play the Pirates while we play the Rockies, so they should be able to keep up with us. no that doesn't make any sense What doesn't make any sense? I hate the Cards, but I'll admit they should be able to whoop up on the Pirates just like we should be able to whoop up on the Rockies. What don't you understand? The Cards are 2-3 so far against Pitt this season.
  12. I posted this in the Bulls nostalgia thread going on in Social, but it's worth posting here. The Edmonds to the Cubs thing reminds me of Charles Oakley coming to the Bulls after being hated with the Knicks for so long. I know it's not a perfect parallel, since Oakley had been on the Bulls before, and wasn't nearly as horrible for the Bulls as Edmonds has been for the Cubs...but still, that sense that him playing for your favorite team is just...wrong...is there in both instances.
  13. Soriano gets terrible jumps on fly balls. Can you imagine the reaction time on a line drive down the line? Or a screamer at his head? Good lord the man could be killed. Do you want that on your conscience?

Mind if I ask what you did to your grip? (I actually have a free 10 min lesson scheduled this afternoon, but I'm curious.)
  15. Carlos Marmol, imo. Yeah, I don't see how he gets left off.

http://www.golfpride.com/grips/cord/tourvelvet_cord_half.aspx They have a retail locator on the left side that hopefully should help you locate a...well...retailer...
  17. Yeah...while it's no excuse, they really need to stop lumping all the OF's into the same pool. It makes for strange voting. Nice not to see Bonds in there though.
  18. Wow. Police Academy. As a baseball analogy. And it worked. That's just weird.

  20. I have a ball with both Marshall's and Murton's autograph on it. I'd like at least one of them to have success.
  21. They're too busy letting Jim Edmonds flail away to bring up Murt.

I'm not sure if you mean all clones when you refer to "knockoffs", but I've done a whole lot of research, and these are the iron/hybrids that I'm getting when my stimulus check comes later this month. http://www.pinemeadowgolf.com/golf-clubs/hybrids/command.hybridset.html They are TaylorMade clones, and while you're right, I won't get the same performance of TaylorMade clubs, I'm not expecting to for the price difference. I'm not a golfer that is good enough for clubs costing in the $1000's to make sense. I've had a hard time finding any negative comments about this place, and they seem to cater to the newbie/average golfer that needs clubs with forgiveness. The best part is that if I'm wrong, I'm only out $200, which in the world of golf clubs isn't much.
  23. You realize that it's not the "Soriano to 1B" that's the problem, right? It's the "Soriano to 1B to replace Derrek Lee" that's the problem. You're moving a guy to a position that he's never played, to take over for quite possibly the teams best player...why? What's the benefit? D-Lee is a gold glover. Soriano is not. Soriano will almost CERTAINLY be worse than Derrek Lee in the field. It'd be hard to be better! And there's no guarantee that the LF replacement will be better than Soriano. There are worse LF's in the game than him. What you're suggesting is a high risk, low benefit idea. Pass.
  24. So he's basically a blogger? I can't tell you how many journalists just adore being called a "blogger"...heh.
  25. He would have had a bad week then they would have sent him down to the minors and signed a 38 year old outfielder who just got cut by the worst offense in baseball to take his place. ba-zing. (standard Pie is a much better prospect than Corey ever was) corey was regarded as one of the top 3 prospects in baseball; pie was never really close to that. In a subjective sort of way, that's true. But in terms of actually playing baseball well enough to justify the acclaim, I think Felix is probably a better prospect than Corey ever really was. Isn't that kind of easy to say in retrospect though? I think everyone thought Corey was a great propsect at the time. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm no prospect expert... but, I think it will be interesting to see if everyone still thinks that about Pie with a little time and distance.
