  1. I sure am happy with mediocre pitching. Yep.
  2. Those don't mean much since one is a starter and the other is a reliever. Marshall is used mostly when he has the matchup advantage, so you'd expect his ERA+ to be fairly good. I did look for a starter/reliever split on the ERA+, but B-R didn't have one.
  3. You know better than to use 32-inning stats. This is exactly what I'm talking about. People seem completely incapable of intellectual honesty with regards to Jason Marquis. Ok then...show me how Marquis is a better option than Marshall. I said they were roughly equal. Marshall's career ERA+ is almost identical to Marquis' ERA+ for this season and career (and Marquis' FIP clearly indicates that the ERA has reflected his actual pitching this season). PECOTA found no reason to project much improvement into Marshall this season, and nothing he's done this year indicates he's made any major step forward (though granted, he hasn't had much chance to show anything at all). So I see no reason not to consider Marshall and Marquis to be roughly equal pitchers. And so you see no reason that we should be unhappy that Marquis with his $6.75 million salary is not performing better than Marshall and his salary? (I couldn't find Marshall's salary, but lets agree it's significantly lower.)

  5. Jason Marquis ERA+: 96 Sean Marshall's ERA+: 109
  6. To be fair, the vast majority of our runs this week have come 6th inning and later. true, but I wonder how far behind we will be by then with Marquis toeing the slab. A fair point, but in that case I don't know if that's a letdown as much as a sucky pitcher.

  8. Meh, I consider them pretty close to equal. I don't, but even if that is true, Marshall has room for growth that Marquis doesn't.
  9. Well, yeah, but at least saber stuff has some use in the real world. And I could be completely off here, but I think there's a lot better chance of making money by being profficient with saber than WoW. Mayyyybe...but most people still do both just for fun, not for money. Both are more hobby than occupation, though people manage to do that with both. Doesn't matter....I'm not sensitive about it...just thought it was funny. :)
  10. Struggling with Marquis wouldn't bother me nearly as much given the rest of our rotation, if we didn't have a better option in Marshall.
  11. pretty sure the stat is grounding into dps. Signs you might be playing too much world of warcraft: If you read that and wondered what Derrek Lee's damage per second is. NERD Ugh. You blow, Marquis. I'd rather have Hill up here than you. Just to check with you on this. WoW = nerdy Sabermetrics = not nerdy?

  13. The NFL can't force GB to do anything, but they can certainly exert pressure on them to do something, and I think that's all that's going on here. Favre is a big NFL name...one of the biggest of all time...the NFL wants this resolved so the focus can be on the season and not this drama. I don't blame them there. If GB wants to be stubborn, they can be. But I think they'll do something here in the next week or so.
  14. Brewers.com board says that after the Fukubomb the Brewers announcers said "Uncle"...ha!
  15. I've considered making this claim already today, but the 5-game series against the Cards in September 03 still has it for me. This is pretty flippin sweet though. Agreed. The Cards one wins cuz it was in late September. First week of September (forget if it was 2nd thru 5th or 3-6), but point stands - timing of the season definitely gives it the nod. Huh...you're right. In my head it was like the second to last week of the season...:P

  17. I hope the Cubs don't have a let down after this series. With an atmosphere like they've had this week, it might be hard to get up for just Pittsburgh. (Sorry Jake!)
  18. Nice work Rich! Lets get this win for ya!
  19. When do Brewers fans start crying that Fielder only hits meaningless homers?
  20. Harden due up first in the 8th...this will be it for him.
  21. From a pure baseball perspective, you're absolutely right. But obviously the Red Sox have had enough that they are willing to take a hit to get rid of a headache. And in that scenario, Griffey is the best of the "meh" options.
  22. Manny for Griffey isn't a good trade. If you're dead set on getting rid of Manny it's not awful. Griffey is hitting .245/.355/.432 this season... Manny is hitting .299/.398/.529 this season... Yeah, that'd be a bad trade. That's not fair though. If you're getting rid of Manny, you're going to lose production with pretty much any return. Who's going to come in and produce equal to Manny? What option is better for the Red Sox if they are hell bent on getting rid of Manny?
  23. What's Harden's pitch limit? Around 100?
