  1. It's ridiculous to have hair rules in sports. The only one where it would make even a little bit of sense is the NFL, since it can be pulled on to bring you down. In MLB, it's stupid.
  2. Same thing out here but at midnight. It's been crashing at midnight for a while now but it used to only be for 2 to 3 minutes. Now it's more than 10. My guess (and I freely admit, it's a total guess) is that they probably reboot the server nightly at the service provider.
  3. that's pretty pathetic. the IOC doesn't rely on international federations to do their own drug testing, because it would be too easy for them to sweep positive results under the rug. plus, there is now significant evidence that the chinese are knowingly breaking the rules and using athletes in competition based on falsified documents. this should be investigated and the chinese should be stripped of the gold medal, but this is happening in china so nothing is going to happen. Exactly. There's way too much money to be made in that country. The most that would happen is that they'd close the loophole for future games, and ignore this one.
  4. At least one (if not more) of the China gymnasts was under 16, the minimum age for the event. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-flumenbaum/scandal-of-the-ages-docum_b_118842.html
  5. Yeah, and I admit, I don't know how "spreadable" this attitude is. I just think it's good to see from at least this guy. I have a feeling Dempster will do well in the playoffs too. Both Edmonds and Dempster have the right amount of cocky confidence right now that I want to see. Soriano has a little too much. Derrek Lee does seem to have enough. Anyway, I know this is all mythical magical stuff with no "attitude" or "chemistry" metrics to back it up. Really the point of the thread was that Edmonds was expressing a method of how he goes about his business that I liked, and would like to see more of from others.

    Golf

I love scrambles. In fact, my very first experience with golf was a scramble. The only part I don't like is the shotgun start. I like to play holes 1-18 in that order, not really sure why. We played a scramble last week and had a blast. There was a dogleg right around a lake on one hole. The first guy put a beauty in the fairway, so it was bombs away for the rest of us. I made it over the lake and we had a 15 foot chip for eagle. Unfortunately, we had to settle for a bird. Then I put another par 4 drive right on the green. We had a 30 foot putt for eagle. Unfortunately, we had to settle for a bird. I need guys with a better short game with me next time. [-( Oh I love shotgun starts. Especially if you only have enough teams so it's one team per hole. Nobody is pushing each other...the whole thing flows great. But I could care less what order I play em in.
  7. I know that Soriano was on the Yanks, and D-Lee won the WS with the Marlins and all, but it seems like it's gonna be a great thing to have this kind of attitude on the team...where the "playoffs are the real season" kind of attitude. Maybe it doesn't mean much, but it was refreshing to read this morning.
  8. Gameday says "On Field Delay"...what's that about?
  9. And to get Jimmy some rest for tonight probably.
  10. So does this mean no Samardja starting on Sunday? I hope that's the case.
  11. That's fine...but I can get that same generalized "who's better than who" info from ERA, right? So what value does the Win/Loss record give you that I can't get from another stat? You can say that about every stat that isn't what you consider the most valuable stat. What value does OBP have when I can look at EqA? Well for one, many, many more people know what OBP is. This isn't a "this stat is better than that stat" for me. It's just that I think W/L gives more misinformation than valuable information and can actually be more hindrance than help.
  12. I get that...and I've acknowledged that risk of injury is a great reason for not sliding into first. I'm simply arguing the merits (or lack thereof) of the "you get there faster by running through the base" myth/fact. I think it'd help to stop using the word slide. It's distracting becuase sliding clearly doesn't make a guy get there faster(intense scientific studies aside) I can accept a debate over diving into the base, not sliding. Good point. My visualization of it may not match others'.
  13. Because for right or wrong it is still a stat that is commonly accepted as an important stat for a pitcher. But that's the whole argument. That it's wrong that it is an important stat.

  16. If anyone can put the Skip/Harry flubs on Youtube, I'd really love to see it.
  17. In his first 3 games with the Cubs, Rich Harden was 0-1. Not exactly representative of his 1.04 ERA in those games. I know, small sample size. But as an individual stat, I just don't see the value, even minimally.
  18. Gregor isn't quite as ugly as grandpa Hank.
  19. I know it's tricky with catchers, but you could do the same thing with Soto and bring in Blanco now. Lou would probably prefer each to catch their own game instead of half and half...but...
  20. Brian Giles is not eligible to be traded. He did not clear waivers. And even if he were, he killed the Boston trade. Why would he come to Chicago? moot point, but Boston was one of the 8 clubs in his limited NTC. no mention of the Cubs so he really couldn't have said anything but goodbye Ahhh....didn't realize his NTC was limited.
  21. People that defend mediocity.

  23. He's awfully lucky to have the defense behind him that he does.
  24. You chose your wording quite nicely there.
