  1. Actually, yes I do think that. Because, especially if Kobe gets one more ring, every mention of Kobe's greatness is going to compare him to Jordan. And people are going to say that Jordan did it without a true big man in the middle.
  2. I'll bite. What "should" it be about? And how does Steinbrenner sell that out? It's a professional sport...it's about winning. (After making a buck that is...) Indeed. Do tell, chuck. In short, competitive balance. When you have a team spending over 4x on player's salaries as another team, how is that fair? You see it all the time in sports when the big guys bully the little guys. You see it in European soccer. You see it in racing. You see it in the BCS. This is no different. How is it fair for a franchise to have top notch management, do things the right way, develop the right players, but still can't compete at all because the big spenders will snatch up all your players the minute they become free agents? Thanks for the explanation. Now to answer your question, in short, yes...I'd be happy to sell out what you think baseball should be about in order to win a World Series. Mostly because I don't think that's what baseball, or any professional sport, is about. It's the leagues job to ensure competitive fairness. It's not the team's job. The team's job is to do whatever it can within the rules to play the best team they can. Steinbrenner does that.

  4. After his move to the bullpen, I don't think I'd be surprised with anything the Cubs tried to do with him.
  5. i'm 90% sure he'll still be a cub. I'm betting he's a goner by the end of the season. How? He has a NTC. And he earns a million bazillion dollars. He's not going anywhere. Pure speculation on my part and I may be reading between the lines but it sounds like the whole organization is tired of his act. I am fully aware of the money involved and I'm also aware that he has a no trade clause. I am saying that despite that, I can see the club eating some salary, I can also see Zambrano waiving his NTC to play for his friend Ozzie. There are several scenarios that I hope to see happen. So it's less that you think it will happen, and more that you hope it will?

Similar situations haven't stopped other players with NTC's and large contracts from demanding trades. If he makes it known enough that he wants out pronto and won't be satisfied until he's gone, he'll be moved just to avoid the distraction surrounding this whole thing. Well sure, but he hasn't given any indication he wants to be traded. In fact, previously he's been pretty anti-trade...he's a headcase, but he's a loyal headcase.
  9. I think the big reason we can't get into it is that we can't DVR/tivo it. We also like sports that make you think I'll bite. Why can't you DVR soccer? Plenty of people do that. Hell, I have.

  11. Ricketts just bought the team. How could you possibly think that Ricketts gave Hendry an extension?
  12. He was. And the Knicks tried to get him. And Jerry ponied up $30M as a result. Yep. But there wasn't 3 teams trading away players to clear cap space for him. This is definitely unique.
  13. What I find interesting is that the executive used for this article is an executive, supposedy, of one of the six teams going to meet Lebron. But this article does give credence to the Chad Ford article posted shortly after James' exit, you know this one http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/15881/lebron-to-the-bulls-3-gms-think-so Either way, this is going to be a very hectic and perhaps an exciting couple of weeks for the city for Chicago. That article also thought Calipari was going to be the new Bulls coach.

  15. Ladd is all that's left, I think. Hendry is eligible for one but not expected to receive one. Er....didn't we just trade Ladd in the Byfuglien deal? EDIT: Nevermind...my brain isn't working this morning.
  16. How about the bullpen? Nah...that'd be nuts.
  17. I don't think the Zambrano thing needs two threads. Lets keep in it in the other one.
  18. People keep saying that Z is done as a Cub, but I don't see it. I don't see how you can trade that guy (who has a NTC), who isn't pitching like an ace, who has that kind of baggage, with that kind of salary. I just don't know how that happens.
  19. Bowman says no more trades are needed. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/06/hawks-gm-bowman-no-further-trades-needed.html
  20. Man...Terry Boers totally had this pegged today. They don't have today's podcast up yet, but he actually picked a Zambrano blowup today. With the Cubs playing bad, the Sox on a streak, the emotion of the cross town rivalry, and Z not having had a blowup in a while, he though Zambrano would be all jacked up and lose his mind. He couldn't have been more dead on, unfortunately.
  21. I know it's already been said, but that "no free agency tour" thing is a huge blow to the Knicks. I heard they were actually looking into renting some posh apartment with a view of the city to show off and such.
  22. "Is that Berrian? I think he’s triple-covered. You know what? [expletive] it. I’m throwing it downfield." Is that Favre or Grossman? Both probably.
