  1. No you aren't... 8-[
  2. Oh well, if you can't do simple arithmatic.... I think I like going back to the day when the average person could do simple addition. Maybe I don't need to be reminded that there's a generation of people who can't. Even worse, there are the scoreboards on the upper deck along the baselines that actually show the score....all added up and everything...so that doesn't carry water with me.
  3. This is actually a conversation that's been had quite a bit in other threads, but off the top of my head.... Larry Dierker Davey Johnson (though he just found employment elsewhere) Bobby Valentine Jim Riggleman Bob Brenly
  4. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-0606120109jun12,1,5723421.story?coll=cs-home-headlines I thought this would an interesting discussion. Personally I think if you're gonna replace the scoreboard, just replace Wrigley. At that point, you're taking out one of the major pieces of Wrigley's charm and uniqueness. I also think that given the state of the Cubs, this was a dumb article to write. When the Cubs are this bad, I don't much care about how old the scoreboard is.
  5. There is no such thing. But if there were such a thing, Dunn would be the one hitting them. And if unicorns existed, Ben Kingsley would be the world's 3rd largest breeder. I hope the Cubs trade for Dunn; they really need someone with his patience. But I guarantee he'd still drive everyone nuts. Meh...all the Cubs drive me nuts anyways. No big change.
  6. I don't buy this. If this is how the Trib is run, it's run terribly. As an example, take McDonald's. They run an obviously very profitable business. By your theory, why should they change anything? Why should they make changes to their menu, change their advertising strategy, make adult happy meals and try to present a healthier option for food? Profitable business stay profitable by constantly making changes and improvements. The Tribune obviously recognizes this to a certain extent, as they've made "improvements" to Wrigley. Fielding a winning team will only make the team more profitable. This should be a goal for the Tribune. By your standards MacPhail, Hendry, and Dusty would already be gone then. MacPhail has been here 10 plus year and the team has made the playoffs twice. Hendry was given an extension after 2 very disappointing years in which the team under performed from what they were projected and Dusty is going to get his extension before the seasonm is over. The Cubs have made a profit during the time each man has been employed by the Trib. Why else are they still around. Certainly not for the championship trophys lying around. If you're arguing that the Trib is run poorly, and that they don't see that a winning team is more profitable than a losing one, then you might be right.
  7. I was going to suggest a rule change where they give a Cy Young to the best pitcher whose last name begins with each letter, but they both begin with M!! Curses!!
  8. Best to lock this before the flaming gets too harsh. :P
  9. But won't winning sell more jerseys? More hats? More bumper stickers? More ad space? Winning = money.
  10. He and Brian Giles should form a club! Agreed! Don't know about you, but mine was sarcastic... :)

  13. How "this" has not already been bumped out of the lineup is beyond me. I understand they have enough firepower to make up for his deficiencies, but he has been absolutely horrible. I was thinking the same thing. Hilariously there are Sox fans seriously wanting to trade for Pierre calling into the Score on occcasion...
  14. If they finish .500, do you think that philosophy will be instated? I don't. I'm not asking for overnight change. I don't expect overnight change. But as has been proven by both the instances you mention, losing can bring about a change. Yes, that still means the right replacements have to be brought in, and in both the instances we're talking about above, they weren't. I just want a change to be made so we can begin that transition to the philosophies and qualities of a winning organization that you mentioned. I firmly believe that won't happen with the current regime. Therefore how can I back them?
  15. I'm not anti-Dunn...I think he would be a much much needed threat in the lineup, but it really all depends on the deal. I think the reason I don't like the Aram idea is 2 fold... 1) Why would Cincy want A-Ram? They have Edwin Encarnacion there and he's doing pretty well. 2) Who would replace A-Ram at 3rd? He's the first consistency we've had at that position in my lifetime, and I'm hesitant to give that up without a plan for replacement.
  16. I guess I'm not actively rooting for them to lose. I'm just ambivalent about the losses, because I realize that it could bring about a needed change.
  17. It's brought about more change than mediocrity has. Ask Jim Riggleman and Don Baylor.
  18. I can't stop being happy when guys I like do something well, but I'm also not upset when they lose. It's not a state I enjoy being in, and I'm pissed as hell at Hendry/Dusty for putting me in this state. But it's where I am. I laugh at our failure, and I shrug at our success. For what it's worth, I was at the "Neifi Perez 2 error to lose it" game against Atlanta. By the end of the game, everyone in the area knew that I expected the Cubs to lose, that I thought losing was the best way to affect change in the organization, and I laughed loudly after the Cubs got behind. It was surreal.
  19. Will Prior be back for Rusch's next turn in the rotation, or no? They said during the game yesterday that if all goes well in his AAA start tomorrow night, he could start this Sunday against Detroit. I'd rather have him pitch two more starts. I don't want another Kerry Wood can't make a 5 day start. Make sure he's ready... I like our future: Z Marshall Marmol Prior (if healthy) Maddux (I hope they lock him up for two more years) This will already be his 4th rehab start (Kerry had 3) and he's going to be going over 90 pitches next time. Mark has said that while he won't be hitting 120 right out of the gate, he will be going 6 or 7 innings.
  20. This question seems to be making the rounds of the Cubs blogosphere. It find it sad. Cheer for you team to win or go home. I'm a Cubs fan, and I'm rooting for them to lose short term, to get new management and players in there, because I want a winner long term, and I don't believe that will happen with the team as it's currently constructed. Sorry.
  21. it'll be on ESPN2 and ESPNU again later today. Oh well now I'm torn...do I want to follow it on the computer or not....hmmm... Keep in mind, ESPN might scroll the final score of the match you are wathing on the bottom line. Yeah, and they aren't doing the replay until 9pm...I'm not gonna be avoiding the score that long, and I don't think I'll be staying up late enough for the end of it either...so I guess I'll be trying to follow it online.
  22. Will Prior be back for Rusch's next turn in the rotation, or no?
  23. LOL...I just now read that reds forum link...hilarious stuff...Dunn is a bum for picking his pitches and hitting a homer...oh the horror!! How do the Reds live with such ineptitude!
  24. Gotta love an owner that refers to the team as a "major asset". I don't recall if it was you or someone else who posted the "owner" thread, but you get a little window into their thinking with that comment. It was me, but I thought I'd post it in this one since this thread got a bit more love... :)
