  1. <3 White Stripes it's a crime that Aerosmith is winning this poll. Have you seen them live? They are amazing. Unfortunately I haven't.
  2. Wow...as similar as our opinions may be on some topics, we're clearly not on the same page with music. GD by a mile for me.

  4. This is a prediction thread. Not a wishing thread. Oh in that case 81-81 total for the year. So you actually logically think that the team that has played .386 ball for the first half of the season will play around .650-ish ball the rest of the season? Really? Don't tell me that I don't want the Cubs to win. That's crap. The difference is, you're all about the short term. Win a little now, even if it means we don't have greater success in the future. I disagree with that outlook. I'd rather lose big now if it means reorganization such that the Cubs are more successful in the future. Getting to .500 is extremely unlikely at this point. Winning only prolongs change. I want change, not losing. But losing appears to be the only way to achieve that. Call it doom and gloom if you like. It's realism. This is one of the worst teams in the major leagues. It's not going to magically turn into one of the best because you wished hard enough.

  6. Yep...playing time for younger guys to see what you have, instead of playing older guys because they're your "horses".
  7. The first 17 games after the break... Fri. 14 NY Mets Sat. 15 NY Mets Sun. 16 NY Mets Tue. 18 Houston Wed. 19 Houston Thu. 20 Houston Fri. 21 at Washington Sat. 22 at Washington Sun. 23 at Washington Mon. 24 at NY Mets Tue. 25 at NY Mets Wed. 26 at NY Mets Thu. 27 St. Louis Fri. 28 St. Louis Sat. 29 St. Louis Sun. 30 St. Louis I think another multiple loss stretch isn't out of the realm of possiblity there.
  8. 100 losses.
  9. Good news... good news! Why not skip this turn of the rotation, just to give him a few extra days and make 100% there is nothing there? How many times have we heard from the Cubs training and medical staffs that player X is OK and then a week later they end up on the DL because they were not sure of the extent of the injury. What if he alters his mechanics slightly because of the pain, and ends up really hurting himself? I see no drawback whatsoever of skipping his turn, and a huge possibility for trouble. QF-effin'-T. What is possibly worth it this season to risk a guy like Z? Give him an extra rotation off, big deal. Learn from your past mistakes, you dumb $#&^^$^$@$!@@$$#$#'s!!! But that will be held against Dusty's record, dude.
  10. For arguments sake, I think this is the post you're referring to... Hendry will be gone if the losing continues, but he's safe through next year. So give him a chance to hire a new guy and make it work, if it doesn't, they're all out in a top to bottom house cleaning. I think goony's point is that Hendry is safe, whether we like it or not, so rather than keep Dusty during that time, get a new manager in there. If he fails, then Hendry WILL get fired.
  11. Um, I don't think we have faith, we're just resigned to the fact that Hendry isn't going to get fired a few months after signing a 2 year extension.
  12. http://www.suntimes.com/output/sports/baker12.html There's no Hendry quotes about Dusty finishing the year...it's just Kiley's speculation.
  13. The Score said that Z will pitch on Friday, and is ok.
  14. According to the Score, Mike Kiley is reporting that Hendry spoke with Dusty, and told him that his job is safe for the time being, and that he'd like to see him finish out the year. Also, Zambrano is ok, and will pitch Friday. EDIT: Split this into it's own thread. If it's true, it deserves it's own discussion.
  15. But goony, it doesn't matter what his numbers are....he doesn't hustle.
  16. I think Hendry already ate it first... :)
  17. For the right deal I would trade anyone on the Cubs roster. I don't think people want to give Aramis away but his attitude and lack of hustle leave something to be desired. You can critcize him for his effort, that doesn't mean you want to give him away. I don't disagree, but judging by what I'm hearing on the radio, reading in the sportspages, and seeing on other message boards, there's a growing sentiment that Aramis is a big problem and needs to be shipped out for whatever they can get. He's quickly becoming the player many fans are scapegoating. I actually agree...I think the Aramis issue is far bigger than it should be. After having had horrible third baseman for so long, you'd think we'd be happy with having Aramis...guess not.
  18. Done deal per ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2517046
  19. I doubt the Cubs announce anything today.
  20. I'm not sure if I like what you're implying there mister.... Baker's not in top excuse-making form yet?!?!
  21. Loretta a FA? I'm on board there. Not really a fan of Loretta, and I hope the Cubs stay away from adding any big name 2nd basemens, like Giles/Loretta. I want 2nd base open for Eric Patterson. While Patterson may be a decent major league second baseman, I don't think he's the level of prospect that you keep a spot open for. He's not going to be ready for the show in 2007 and we'll need someone to play second unless we want to endure 500 AB of Neifi. I don't. If I can get Marcus Giles to play second, Patterson can ply his trade elsewhere. I've always loved Marcus Giles....until he messed up Prior...but I would get over that.
  22. Imo it would be like hitting a broken bone with a hammer. Fortunately it sounds like Piniella wouldn't be interested until the offseason.
  23. According to Muskat, he was doing an interview and backed up into Cora's swing. I'm sure Cora will get all kinds of flack about this, but it sounds like it was probably Z just not being aware of his surroundings.
  24. Intent is immaterial. Results are what matter to me, and he hasn't provided them. Maybe we just have different expectations.
  25. While I would agree that Baker has his boys, which is one of the reasons why Guzman and Williamson get buried and do not pitch as often as they would like, but Rusch pitching has more to do with money and his contract than anything else. What does fall on Baker is that he ultimately has the final say how much a player plays, and for all of us, Rusch seems to get too much of it. BCB When a guy on the Cardinals (See: Ponson, Sidney) is bad, or ticks of TLR, he's out of there. It was even said when Ponson and TLR got into thier little spat in the dugout during the big Cardinals blowout game, that Ponson wasn't long for STL. When a guy on the Cubs is awful, we hold on to him and give him chance after chance instead of the potential a rookie could bring to the team. That is something both Baker and Hendry share blame for.
