  1. Sooo...the Cubs could go on a tear, beating all these teams that they haven't been beating the rest of the season, meanwhile none of the 11 teams above them will play well at all, just milling around waiting for the Cubs to take the lead. Maybe we have an easy schedule, but so does everyone else...why? Because the NL is terrible. The Cubs do not control their own destiny. Not even close. Even if they suddenly start playing like the best team to ever play the game, there are other teams that don't have to play that well to stay ahead of us. I'm not sold.
  2. This is from Paul Sullivans article this morning, and even though I've been right there for it, it's just kind of stunning to see it written this way...
  3. Or even if it was a month ago....there's just not enough time now either.

  5. There was a link posted to a site that tracks that day to day, and frankly I don't remember it now...I'm sure someone can repost it. And just to provide a bit of counterpoint, sure there are going to be some guaranteed winners, but there will also be some guaranteed losers... Please note...I do not think we're still in contention...just thought it beared noting.

    Good news from the Sun-Times...

Did you even see the hit? Brown barely touched him, Urlacher's hit wasn't that bad and what I'd expect of practice. It really didn't look that bad, I hope it's not too serious. no, i didn't see it, and the report that i heard on espn 1000 was that urlacher and brown "pinballed" benson as he was making a catch over the middle. i only knew what i was told, so i apologize for the knee-jerk response. that said, urlacher and brown both acted like benson was on a different team when questioned about it. There's a video link earlier in the thread if you're interested in seeing it....it's not great quality, but you can get an idea of how trivial the contact was.
  8. don't pull anything patting yourself on the back, dusty. :pukel: There is nothing wrong with this comment at all. He is giving Murton a compliment by saying he has struggled at times but found himself for a strong second half run while complimenting Pagan, too. Oh my...the humanity. I realize most people here don't like Baker and want him gone, but don't try to find reasons to criticize unfairly. I agree that sometimes the piling on of Baker is a little over the top. In this case, I'm not so sure it isn't justified though. I would like to know the context of the comments, but it sure seems what he is saying here is 'Murton is coming around thanks to the way we use him, Pagan on the other hand is the truly talented one.' Then why use the word "and"? It seems clear that he is saying that Murton fought through the down period successfully and how he was used also helped. Wouldn't one have to ignore the fact that Baker said the word "and" in order to think that he was taking all of the credit for turning Murton around? Since we're picking on word usage, did anyone use the word "all" before you mentioned it? The point is that Baker loves to blame the kids for their own failures, and loves to get in some credit for when they turn it around. If you're ok with that...fine...it just seems a little slimy to some of us.
  9. Indeed it is. I'm gonna lock this one, and we can just discuss this further in that thread. :)
  10. That comment may cause me to revoke my backing of Brenly as a possible managerial candidate. Where have you been all year and during Brenly's managerial career? Those 5 original roast beef sandwiches for only $5.99 have gone to your head! Yeah, this is the first sign for you that he might not be the guy? More like the last sign.
  11. That comment may cause me to revoke my backing of Brenly as a possible managerial candidate. Where have you been all year and during Brenly's managerial career? Those 5 original roast beef sandwiches for only $5.99 have gone to your head! There are a lot of things that Brenly does criticize this team for, and does see that I like. And Brenly isn't/wasn't my first choice. But in the middle of the season, if they were going to replace Baker, I do think Brenly would've been an upgrade, at least as an interim manager.
  12. What kind of managerial problems is he not handling? He asked the owner of the team not to yell at the Ump. I don't think he'll have that issue with the Trib...lol.

  14. Hendry: "We aren't looking at other managers right now. Dusty's the manager of this team right now, and together we're evaluating what talent we have.....yadda yadda.."
  15. Please don't mention Arby's. It's another 45min till my lunch, and I'm starving... :P Funny, thinking of Arby's usually makes me lose my appetite. Bacon Cheddar Roast Beef...mmmmm
  16. Considering I've seen pretty much zilch connecting the Cubs and Dierker in any managerial speculation in the media, I'd say the Girardi option is more likely, but then who knows...the media is probably speculating just as much as we are.

Well, this is really just the first thing that I've worried about with the Bears. I didn't mind the draft. I liked the Griese signing. I'm pretty confident they'll be a good team this year and can make some noice. But both RBs going down is not something to laugh off. That's true. And I'm not really laughing it off. Just refusing to stress myself over it...at least till we get a couple preseason games under our belt.

I dunno about that. I think it would be MUCH scarier if both guys were out with ACL tears or something. Both guys seem to be out for more precautionary reasons. I think both of them would be playing if it was the middle of the season. I'm honestly not that worried that we'll be seeing Adrian with the bulk of the carries or anything. I think Jones is out for precaution and for contract reasons. I believe that if he was the #1 RB without question, he'd be healthy enough to practice. Yes, it could be scarier, but it's plenty bad right now. It would be bad enough if this team was just trying to maintain the offensive status quo, but they need to make huge strides and they can't accomplish that if the running backs can't practice, no matter the reason. But it wasn't really the running game that needed to make huge strides. It was the passing game. Jones is already pretty proven, and Benson, by all accounts, was having a very good camp. I guess I've been holding a pessimistic enough view of the Cubs, that I have a lot of saved up optimism to use on the Bears... :D

  21. Joe is new, but has also done some nice things with the Marlins, that Jim might see him as less of a long shot now. Or at least that's what I'm telling myself. This thread is a tease.
  22. That may be overstating it...heh...but it would be a good start to fixing his mess.
  23. Strictly a guess on my part, but I'm guessing each measurement is taken after a certain number of AB's or games played or something. He probably didn't hit in the first few AB's off the DL, and so that measurement would decline. Complete speculation though.
  24. Does Cabrera have a similar out clause???
  25. Btw...let me apologize to those of you that offered trades to me, and I never responded. And of course, now it's too late. I've let work and real life interfere with my fantasy baseball. My bad. I need to prioritize!
