  2. That's a ridiculous exaggeration. There's nothing wrong with wanting better leadership on a team this bad.
  3. I'll agree in that I don't think him going NOW does much, though I wouldn't cry if he did. Might as well wait till the offseason and let whatever new GM will almost inevitably be here hire a guy that fits in with what I pray is a new organizational philosophy.
  4. Dusty needed to go because he put the wrong players in at the wrong times in the wrong positions to succeed. Lou needs to go because he puts the wrong players in at the wrong times in the wrong positions to succeed. I don't think anyone is saying that the players should not be held accountable. WOW Lou...the honeymoon is over. They're calling for your head already in less than 60 games. Welcome to Chicago. Meh...he might as well finish the season. He's a lame duck manager with new ownership likely to want to bring in their own management anyway. I was never a big fan of the Lou hire, and he certainly hasn't given me anything to change that. The honeymoon isn't over with me...there never was a honeymoon.

  6. To get it reduced, which won't happen...manager suspensions almost never get reduced. I thought the meeting was to determine the length, and that people are just speculating it's going to be 5. The article I linked made it seem like this was more of an appeal...and that in that way it was determining length. I suspect Piniella and the Cubs already knew it was 5. But who knows.
  7. So it is all Lou's fault that they have sucked? Your a reliever, when you get put in a game your job is to get people out regardless of the situation. Quit putting the blame on Lou for their ineffectiveness. I never said it was all Lou's fault. But for him to put them in the wrong situations, and then not take any of the blame when they go up in flames is throwing them under the bus. Yes, they should have pitched better, but Lou should have managed better as well.
  8. If the team was winning, that % would be microscopic. Yeah, nobody was complaining in 2003. I agree to an extent, but there is always going to be people upset. In 2003 it was Wood/Prior pitch counts, and probably rightfully so. But I still feel a good majority of those folks would have complained had Baker shut them down. "Those people" refer to nobody specifc, just trying to think back to the general themes of discussion from that year. They weren't really winning all that much in 2003. They won 88 games. It was a slightly above average season. I'm talking about if they had a good manager and the team was looking like a solid 95-100 win team. That's winning. Hey, its the Cubs, 2003 was the best I could do. I'd have to go pretty far back to find a 95-100 win Cub team. 8-) You'd have to go pretty far back to find a good manager as well...
  9. There's a difference between being held accountable and being called out and thrown under the bus. You can do one without the other. And regardless, this is the team Lou has to manage. He's not going to magically get a new roster. If his team isn't responding to his current methods, it's all on him to try and find a different way to get the team to succeed. Who has he thrown under the bus? Barrett, Ohman, Cotts, Eyre, Murton, Jones... I think your definition of "throwing under the bus" must be closely related to speaking the truth. Barrett, Ohman, Eyre, Cotts, and Jones have been brutal. What did he do with Murton? Lou has put those bullpen guys in spots where they are poised to fail though. He hasn't done them any favors.
  10. To get it reduced, which won't happen...manager suspensions almost never get reduced.
  11. How much blame does Lou get for the team's struggles? 30%? 50%? The team has sucked all around, not just Lou. I would say much less than 30%. But that's not the point. It's not like the Cubs are missing anything without him on the bench. Agreed, and sadly that can be said for quite a few managers in MLB. Is there any reason that we shouldn't expect the Cubs to get one of the managers that actually bring something to the team though? Just because a lot of MLB managers suck, doesn't mean we should be content that ours does too. I'm not content at all. Who do you suggest? No matter who is managing this team, there is always going to be a % of people who complain regardless. Suggestions have been made ad nauseum since somewhere in the middle of the Baker reign. We never got in on the Fredi Gonzalez discussions. There was no indication that we ever even asked Larry Dierker if he'd be interested in managing again. There was no indication that Bobby Valentine was ever contacted or looked at. I can understand if you talk to someone and it doesn't work out, but these were 3 guys that Hendry never even sniffed at. His Piniella love was too strong.

  13. I dunno about the Yanks, but I think Lou is in for a one-and-done with the Cubs too. I think the new ownership will probably make sweeping changes.
  14. According to Chicagosports.com, sources say that it will be a 5 game suspension.... http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070603cubspiniella,1,3569135.story?coll=cs-home-headlines
  15. Off to rivalries with ye!!
  16. Gee whiz that's a positive site. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
  17. stitch, why do you hate Lee so much? :)
  18. Wild theory...maybe a trade for Barrett is lined up, and his roster spot will free up a spot for Hill, and then Soto can come up as well? lol...or not.
  19. Not really Bulls news, but it does involve a former Bull.... Steve Kerr is set to be hired as the President and GM of the Phoenix Suns! http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=318534
  20. I'd argue that there's plenty of people clamoring for a cut-rate, well run business though. There are plenty of "discount" airlines that are used pretty frequently. And there's plenty of room for budget hotels. I think that's a terrible analogy. Minor league baseball seems to do just fine. The CBA has managed to stay to remain in business. The CFL, AFL, and NFL Europe all are popular enough to support continued operations. I'm not saying he'll be successful. I just think it's a poor analogy. i think his point wasn't that people don't want discount airlines, but they don't want shoddy, poorly run airlines. People don't want a crappy league with bad players and kitschy marketing I understand, but he's jumping to conclusions that it would be "poorly run". And unknown players doesn't mean "bad players". It all depends on exactly how they try to do this. If they try to make it a smaller community kind of thing, like minor league baseball, it could work. If he tries to be like the XFL and directly compete with the NFL with "kitschy marketing", then yes, I'd forsee massive failure. I just don't see Mark Cuban as a dumb guy. He's made a lot of good business deals (and a few bad ones). I'm willing to wait for some more detail before I completely dismiss the idea.

  22. I really hope that when the Cubs get bought this winter, Hendry is booted and the new GM hires his own manager.
  23. Kobe says sorry for the confusion, but he actually still DOES want to be traded... http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/nba/lakers/la-sp-kobe31may31,0,703928.story?coll=la-home-center Does anyone else hear circus music playing???
