  1. Are you going to post about how you like upsets in every thread? How is this about upsets, dear friend? I'm unconcerned about upsets. Indeed, I've supported the upright candidacies of such illustrious favorites as Pinghitter, Vance, and TT. No, upsets are irrelevant to me. My voting is strictly about right action, moral correctness, and ensuring that this Board's malfeasant influences are exposed and defeated. And, Banedon, having lived in Boise (and a mod, to boot), has had an extremely deleterious influence and must be opposed. I fooled the rest of them...how is it that you are unswayed? Boise is a well known den of evil.
  2. That's a lot of prospects for a guy not named Pierre.... :P
  3. It's not that they've performed better, it's that they've gotten a chance to perform. But even that has been out of a lot of necessity for Lou. Lou should get more credit than that. He still has the option to play JJ over Pie in CF and Izturis over Theriot or Fontenot at either MI position. Dusty would have forced the veterans even when it seemed like it wasn't possible, by plugging Macias at any position. Fine, but it would be hard to play the young guys any less than Dusty played them, so I don't know how much credit there is to give. Lou is better at it than Dusty, but being better than the worst isn't exactly a benchmark to get too excited about. Lou still doesn't give Murton the playing time he should be getting to develop, he still plays Izturis far more than he should, and if you recall, Pie was sent back down for a chunk of time because Lou was hardly playing him. It's only when the veterans are very clearly failing to produce that he's gone to the young guys, and even then the vets still get a good amount of starts.

  5. Dunn drives in runs with his glove.
  6. His off the field troubles don't exactly cause one to get too excited for that idea either.
  7. Bah...he made an error last night...send him back down.
  8. Z must have cut open Barrett's brain and sucked out what remained of Michael's hitting prowess. You watch Heroes too much. What's Heroes? A show on NBC where people have superpowers, and the villian slices open peoples skulls (the people with superpowers anyway) and presumably takes their brain...absorbing their powers in the process. It really sounds exactly like what you were talking about. :)
  9. I still think this is a fluke, but I'm ok with Hill catching Z the rest of the year.
  10. No kidding...well at least you have the longest poll thread so far...so you're clearly a topic of conversation!
  11. That was quite the game thread...lol
  12. Dunn would fit perfectly on an AL team.
  13. Flattery will get you everywhere.
  14. And that's fine. It's just my belief that good play leads to a happy team, not the other way around. A happy bad team is still bad. I'll take the unhappy good team.
  15. Don't you think that the statistics for "close and late" for the entire season is more representative than a single inning?
  16. Not too many team chemistry stats available. How do you measure chemistry? By winning record? Sorry, I'm just not a believer in team chemistry.
  17. I'm not sure what you're trying to get at. I've shown you proof that the Cubs hit and score in clutch situations. But they can't pitch at all in those same situations. But because you were pessimistic after the bullpen blew the lead, you want to throw out the stats and say you have no faith in a comeback? You have every right to feel pessimistic about this team...I sure am. But I think you're focusing it on the wrong area of the team.
  18. Actually, "Close and late" is the stat you want, because who cares how many runs are scored in the 8th and 9th innings of blowouts? And I listed the close and late stats above. It just doesn't mesh with what you're saying.
  19. In "close and late" situations...or situations that require "clutch" performances, the Cubs have scored the 3rd most runs in the MLB...they have the 4th best average, and the 8th best OPS. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggregate?statType=batting&group=9&seasonType=2&type=reg&sort=runs&split=60&season=2007 Meanwhile, the pitching "close and late" is 25th in ERA, and has given up the more walks than any other team in baseball. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggregate?statType=pitching&group=9&seasonType=2&type=reg&sort=walks&split=60&season=2007
  20. How many NBA championships has Jerry Colangelo won?
  21. I'm not sure why Marshall hasn't gotten more love from Cubs fans. He's been a pretty solid performer for an end of the rotation guy.
  22. Might be the first I watch from beginning to end in quite some time.
  23. My fantasy team is very happy to have Soriano this week.
  24. I don't watch the Sox, and don't care about what they do. Hence my lack of outrage.
  25. If the Bears decide Culpepper would be a better backup than Griese, and they cut him, what kind of hit would the Bears take for Griese? Is that something they would do? I don't see the Bears dumping Orton...I think they still view him as a project that can be productive at some point in the future.
