  1. The Giants tried and tried and tried to give that game to the Pack, but the Pack wouldn't take it. Thank God. The Pack would've made the Super Bowl unwatchable. And you know, the Giants nearly beat the Pats in the last matchup. I wouldn't write them off.
  2. Couldn't disagree more. I wonder if you're even being serious.
  3. Really sheds some light on a few individuals...Prior, Jacque, Farnsworth and Hundley on the negative side. And Aramis and Wood on the positive side. I still don't like Hendry as a GM (Theriot sucks) but I'd love to hear more of his thoughts like this.
  4. You may very well be right, but just so you know, if Cuban DOES buy the team, this will be my new sig... 8-)
  5. Oops. My bad. Kaplan never named who it was, and I jumped to conclusions. My apologies to Mr. Levine.
  6. Like I said in the post where I pointed out the bin Laden thing...I knew I was nitpicking. :P
  7. Dave Kaplan said that he's gotten so many people calling him and telling him about a rumor that "a reporter for another radio station in town" (pretty clear reference to Bruce Levine I think) said that the Brian Roberts deal is done, and that they are holding off announcing it for the convention. So Kaplan called Roberts agent, who said that he's shot down about 10 rumors so far and this is number 11. He said there is NO DEAL IN PLACE, that Roberts is not in Chicago, and will not be in Chicago this weekend. He said that Angelos has not shot down any deals, and that the only deal that has been brought to Angelos was the Tejada deal. Numerous times Kaplan called the rumor ridiculous, and more or less ridiculed Levine's report.
  8. Let us know if it's anything substantial. I'll wager on that not being the case though.
  9. Just by reading many, many posts in the rants and social forums, that would have been my guess for many, if not most of the posters here. Not a knock, just an anecdotal observation. I'm somewhat surprised by the vote so far. I think the Dems are a little louder these days.
  10. 3.5M w/ $4M in incentives. So if hes healthy all year you get a league average pitcher for $7.5M for 1 year, while the going rate is about 4 years $12M per. That greatly depends on exactly what his incentives are.
  11. The words "try to come up with somebody else" do not exactly inspire overwhelming confidence.
  12. Hopefully this works out as well as the "Trachsel comes back to the Cubs" deal. Clement would've been a better signing as far as "returns" go.
  13. I think he was pretty good at his best. Unlike most Cubs pitchers, he didn't give away first base. But no, he isn't good anymore. I'm not sure why people are so certain "he can still pitch" and will be better than Marquis and Dempster. I think among the three you might find one who doesn't stink, but who knows which one that will be. Maybe the philosophy is to get as many "maybe" pitchers as you can to increase the odds of one being not horrible?
  14. You're assuming that we were in any of those rumored deals.
  15. I might hate the Pack more than I hate the Cardinals. It's close.
  16. All of them play on the North Side of Illinois.
  17. Have you been talking to Ryan or Mike? Cause the Bayou Basher isn't a Cub any longer. Huh? Who isn't a Cub? Todd Walker. I see. That's what was strange about it. When I searched for Bayou Basher, the first thing that popped up was an article or two about Mike Fontenot, and the second reference to Bayou Basher was an article or two about Ryan Theriot. Nowhere on the first two pages of results is a reference to Todd Walker as the Bayou Basher. Since the term seemed to reference two current Cubs, it didn't make sense that he said the Basher was not a Cub anymore without some type of knowledge. The Bayou Basher is a reference to the nickname that Steve Stone gave Todd Walker when Todd complained about Stone liking other players and giving them nicknames...or something like that. EDIT: Actually I've got that wrong. Todd was complaining that Chip and Steve didn't have nicknames for the players like Hawk did across town.
  18. Chicken.

  20. A relief pitcher should never be a sticking point, IMO. Maybe he believes that Marmol could start.
  21. This thread would be half the size without the "OMG THIS THREAD IS SOOOOO LONG" posts.
  22. I imagine Lou's status moving forward has a rather large variable...the sale of the Cubs...who buys it and what they do with the team.
  23. Yes, but your average American had never heard of him before those incidents, that's the point. But I don't think that was frostwyrm's point, which is where this spinoff discussion began. He was referring to Clinton's "easy circumstances" compared to Bush, and how no one had heard of Bin Laden, and while Bin Laden's status as a target has certainly increased since 9/11, it's not like he magically appeared that day. The Clinton administration was well aware of him and had about as much success getting him as the Bush administration has.
