  1. Boldest of takes: Descalso reaches base safely this inning.
  2. Cubs signed ECU catcher Jake Washer. My girlfriend saw it on Twitter and I took her for her word. He’s got a lot of power but that’s about as far as my analysis goes. Feel sure he’s prob org depth. Still cool for me though
  3. I’m pretty sure maples never threw a fastball the whole inning.
  4. Maples is going to plunk someone in the 9th because he has no idea where the ball is going half the time and the benches will clear again
  5. So let me tell you what’s going to unexpectedly happen today: Zobrist pedaled his bike to the ballpark around 5:15 this morning (he has a property in Cincinnati). He then realized that’s way too early and rode it back home. He'll later ride it back at an appropriate time and walk in to the locker room quietly. He'll be feeling better but still kind of melancholy (anyone else unable to see this word with thinking of Smashing Pumpkins?) and stuff. Joe then says, “what’s up Ben? How’s it hanging?” Ben says, “I don’t know if I believe in Jesus anymore”. Maddon takes a large sip of his red wine and responds, “well either way I’ll have you batting second today behind Almora”. Ben chuckles to himself and mutters, “see”, quietly to nobody in particular. Jason Heyward walks over and gives him a big hug. He says, “Look man. I just need to remind you who you are”. Rizzo and KB both say “we love you bruh” in unison and then say “Jinx” to each other and laugh and laugh and laugh. Willson walks to Zobrist and looks him in the eyes. He taps his fist lightly on Ben's chest and then points at his face and walks away. Javy walks over and looks at Ben curiously. His eyes then flash open as he remembers who Ben is. He says, “hey man I remember you!” Ben turns to Heyward and says, “Thanks, Jason”. Heyward winks back at him. Zobrist goes on to rope 3 doubles and the Cubs win 8-3. After the game he’ll go on to say he's found Jesus again.
  6. Prediction: cubs win by 2 or 3 and Kimbrel comes in and shuts the door with a dominate 1-2-3. Cubs get a shot in the arm and go on a bit of a tear through the ASB
  7. I’d like to say if the effort is subpar it’s because I wasn’t ready to go until the Cubs lost again. But, in all honesty, it’s going to be lame either way. Tonight’s game will feature the second start from Dallas Keuchel as a Brave. This DK did not have it on like the original DK (Donkey Kong) in his first start. He looked mediocre and so him and our own Yu Darish have something neat in common. I’ll spare anyone any more Biz Markie jokes because it seems like the right thing to do. Jokes already on all Cubs fans as Joe has Albert Almora leading off. This is NOT what we need. Go Cubs. Cubs win 9-4. Yu posts his first win as a Cub in Wrigley.
  8. I can probably get the game thread up around 6:30 EST if philosophizer75 hasn't made one by then. Sorry, I'll be running errands until that time. That would leave about an hour and a half remaining before first pitch. That work?
  9. You are correct. He was a “score first” PG but I think that is what UNC required last year at times. I’m not sold it would have been his first choice otherwise. He had the ability to take over games himself at times and so he/UNC ran with it. No pun intended. The guy is crazy quick.
  10. Living in NC, I saw plenty of White and heard several interviews from ACC basketball people smarter than me. From the sound of it, (and passing my personal “I hate all UNC players test” to the degree of, “OK, he’s actually good”)...he progressed very quickly. I’m no expert of basketball but I am an expert of hating UNC while reluctantly accepting when they are a good team and/or players. Anyway, he obviously has talent but nobody thought he could run an offense as quickly and efficiently as he did. He’s fast as hell but his shot was much better than some thought. He’s clearly talented but apparently beyond that he quickly became a much more complete basketball player than most imagined. Just my two cents from down here in Tobacco Road country. It’s likely worth nothing but thought I’d share regardless.
  11. I’m kicking myself for not PM’ing SSR for a loan. That line on this series after Toronto already had a win seems crazy.
  12. Assuming the report that little girl is and will be OK, Yes! Cubs win!
  13. iPhone thinks Astros is Astro’s. Well it did the first time but not now.
  14. Apologies for the late start. I’m watching my son and haven’t had time to check in today. Last time was the first Cole/Cole (first name) MLB matchup ever. This time it’s Cole Hamels facing off against Gerrit Cole. So that’s kind of weird. Anyways. That’s all I got. Houston is good but banged up. i have no idea if Bryant is going to start though and so maybe they both are to varying degrees. Cubs win 7-3. Go cubs.
  15. it worked yesterday so let's have another go at it. no big deal, cubs score at least 6 in this one.
