  1. PS - I heard I heard an Interview today of Couch on XM and he sounded absolutely clueless. If the DJ asked him a hard question, he eventually said "what would you do?". I don't lie. He's an idiot. He said Hill is more of a #4 starter...But Bedard is a QUALIFIED #2 or 1 starter. He has no faith in Hill and the XM DJ made him feel like an idiot about it.
  2. why? Because the cubs didn't spend 150 million dollars to lock up a pitcher? That's worked out so well in the past hasn't it? The best thing the cubs did was not get wrapped up in the Santana fiasco.
  3. Is anyone other than me waiting for the mets to actually sign Santana before anointing them NL champs? Even after(the supposed deal), has anyone considered that the rest of their rotation is much worse than the cubs or even the giants? Granted, their offense makes up for many and most of those shortcomings, but first lets make sure they trade for Santana and sencond, lets not crown them champs quite yet. I know they had a great year last year and that their offense is very good, but beltran is injury prone, delgado and alou are getting old very quick, orlando hernandez is probably 46, pedro has the velocity of an 89 year old arthritic man. Will they battle and probably win the NL east if they get Sanatana...yes. Are they a shoe in to win the NL...I certainly don't think so.
  4. great link ole miss! Dawson is my all time favorite player! I was only 5 or 6 when he did that, but the nostalgia of seeing him play again was great. Although, after another NC state loss tonight, it makes it even more unbearable waiting for the cubs opener! Technically 13 days now till pitchers and catcher report PS - I'm probably going to name my next dog Hawk in honor
  5. but who would pinch run after lou exhausts all of our position players???
  6. He's a fan favorite ever since the Game 7 catch and his career year in 2006. In all fairness, that catch was phenomenal. My Mets fan roommate nearly killed himself this September, so he decided he could make himself feel better by buying a poster of that Catch. And let's be honest, it has to be one of the most clutch defensive plays ever (even though the mets lost that game). For a moment, I took this way too literally and forgot about the mets catastrophic collapse. I was wondering just how miraculous that catch must have been to actually save a human life.
  7. If SD was having a better season, my guess is that Rivers would be getting the Grossman treatment. The only thing Rivers has done better than Grossman did last year was a better completion percentage, and that doesn't mean much without the other stats to accompany it. Pretty good 4th quarter comeback by Rivers huh? He's had a bad year, but the whole team has played pretty poorly at times. That will happen when there is a change in nfl coaches. Rivers is on a different planet from Grossman talent-wise, just went through a slump this year. ETA: And Rivers had ZERO time to throw the ball until the fourth quarter. Norv finally quit calling such slow developing play and switched to max protection. If you give him time, he's as accurate as anyone in the league.
  8. I would be thrilled if that were all it took
  9. It does, but i'm not sure how much more the Padres can even offer with their budget. It seems like the final offers are already laid out on the table. Cough**Pie for Greene or maybe like Marshall/Murton if they wanted a corner OF'er**Cough Ahem...I must have something in my throat  . I too would like to see the pie for green deal rehashed. Sign K-Fuk, trade for Roberts and Greene and call it an offseason: 2B Roberts CF Fukudome 1B Lee 3B Ramirez LF Soriano RF DeRosa SS Greene C Soto That would easily be the best lineup in the NL Central and one of the best in the NL. Get it done Jim! 8-)
  10. But apply it to the Cubs, they had Soriano at the top, in front of Theriot for much of the season. If they don't get someone like Roberts, it'll be costing them runs as Soriano isn't their best overall hitter so it doesn't utilize the lineup theory of giving your best hitter the most PAs and it puts a lower OBP guy in front of your best hitters. The Cubs need hitter to get on base and another middle of the order hitter, hopefully Roberts and Fukudome answer the need of OBP and shifting Soriano down to the 5th spot (hopefully) sloves the bat in the middle. I understand both sides, but this is the angle I see it as well.
  11. I wish everyone could have heard seal's voice as I heard it in my head. Hilarious.
  12. Cripes, not another painfully long and agonizing thread... What would you do as a moderator to shorten them? Institute a mandatory castration policy for people who are clearly padding their post count. pssh! +1
  13. exactly. plus, the cubs could have a huge hole in the OF that they may need to fill through a trade. if they trade the few valuable chips for a minor 2b upgrade, they're going to be hurting both in rf and ss. Maybe it is just my optimistic side, but for Hendry to trade for Roberts, I would think that he would have to be 99.9% sure he had Fukudome in the bag before making this deal. That side has gotten me in trouble before being a cubs fan and all. As for the Tejada part, I've been wondering that since this thread started. Maybe the Orioles are asking the Moon for him or maybe they are really close to dealing him to someone else like the Angels?
  14. I would give anything to be in Nashville and mush Steve Phillips for being a moron.
  15. Am I thinking of a different Brian Roberts? That's awfully steep. Done without a second thought. murton's four years younger than roberts and has better career offensive numbers. obviously they don't play the same positiong, but including murton in a deal for roberts is too much...let alone topping him off with three other decent trading chips. if the cubs had a glaring hole at 2b, maybe i'd think differently. I can understand that. I think Murton will be a very solid player, but it's obvious the cubs don't have any plans for him and I question how much trade value he has at this point given that the cubs benched him all year. That said, I see Marshall with a ceiling of a 4/5 starter at best (if healthy) and I don't have much faith in EPatt or Veal. Epatt really has no feasible position since moving from second and Veal has extreme control problems.
  16. can't...pull...self...away...from...computer.... I did not think I would be this interested in the winter meetings this year, but it's a pleasant surprise. I think in all likely hood, I think it could get done for marshall, murton, epatt and veal. At least that seems fair to me.
  17. battled major addictions to drugs and alcohol. turned his life around the past few years. has a world of talent and I think he'll be a great player for some time. and yes, offer marmol if marshall doesn't get it done. he's a reliever after all.
  18. Jim doesn't sign d-bags, he signs guys who are bad at baseball. Too bad. I guess I need to ditch my fantasy about playing for the Cubs, because even if I was great at baseball..Jim wouldn't sign me. unless of course you are toolsy or gritty enough.
  19. The site looks great! Thanks for all the hard work!
  20. My thoughts exactly. I can't go through another year of offense as inconsistent and at times anemic as this past.
  21. dunn and keppinger please. resigned floyd and blanco should get it done. oh yeah, throw in eyre too.
  22. thanks for answering my question, I don't keep up much with the minor leagues. hopefully the cubs can swing a deal for tejada because other than him i don't see many answers.
  23. They probably have no use for him because he stinks. .252/.293/.379 for an OPS+ of 66 in 1000 major league PA. And 815 OPS in AAA (Colorado Springs) is nothing. Cedeno blows that away and is 4 years younger. thanks.
  24. Thanks for clearing that up Bruce. I never really did buy into Rosenthal's proposition. My mind could just not wrap around the idea.
