  1. just bought my tix to the 3/9 game at KC and the 3/10 game at Maryvale vs the Brewers. Woo hoo! We'll be headed for Tucson after that and I hope to catch the Rockies / White Sox (more to see the Rockies than the sox) and Cubs / White Sox. Am getting anxious to be there. Nothing like the gloom of January to start thinking about sun and warmth!
  2. it was a great, great, great game to watch - NBC did a nice job broadcasting. My favorite part was Eddie Olczyk and Darren Pang making fun of Bob Costas hiding out and staying warm in his "hut". Now I can only hope that they use this to build a bigger audience for hockey. I was disappointed to see the 1st Saturday PM matchup on 1/20 - Bruins / Rangers. Whatever do you know...pretty sure at least 1/2 of all the games last year involved the Rangers. ugh. Can only hope we get some of the better younger teams (LA, Chicago, etc) highlighed occasionally. The Crosby love got a little old this afternoon, but I can understand why they did it. They did the same with Ryan Miller from Buffalo too - I was sorry to see Ryan lose, just because he played such a great game. Anyway, my husband and I agreed that if they decided to do this at Soldier Field, we'd be in, but would try and avoid getting the sucky seats low down.
  3. Rivermen play today, in fact - I think at 5pm. Between the Penguins / Sabres game, the Rose Bowl and the Rivermen game tonight, I'm really not going to want to go back to work tomorrow! With the AHL in town, though, Peoria hockey is quite good. I would not have recommended going when the ECHL was in town, but this game is considerably better.
  4. You still have a chance in our matchup as well, if Burress has a big game. Other than him we both have our kickers remaining. I know it! Both matchups too close to call this week - ack. The tough part is that, if Burress has a big game, that's good in the Yahoo league, but am actually playing against him in the other league. I'll be thrilled if I manage to pull out one win this week.
  5. then again, I never thought I'd be bummed out that I started Tom Brady over David Garrard. I still have a couple of players and am hoping to pull things out versus Jazz in our fleaflicker league, but what are the odds?!?
  6. Hello Everyone! NC and I are facing off in the semis for one of the Yahoo leagues this weekend - here's our league - http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/267280. In seeing this article we decided to lay down a friendly wager. The loser (NC*cough*NC) will be donating $50 to the trust set up for Donnie and his brother. With that said, we hope that those of you who are still in the races for your fantasy championships will consider laying down wagers to benefit such a worthy cause. I'm playing Jazz in the Fleaflicker league semis, and he'll have a PM soon too. May the best team win! Good luck everyone, and Happy Holidays :D
  7. I mentioned it in the Baseball Discussions thread on the Caravan, but, during the Caravan in Peoria, the Chiefs (with some help from the Boosters) are going to do an auction of some sort to benefit this fund. For those in the area, come out and join us at RiverPlex (and bring the checkbook!)
  8. Here's the info that just went out on the Chiefs website late Thursday: also, for those of you that hadn't seen this story, the Chiefs and the Chiefs Boosters will be doing a raffle to benefit the fund set up for Donnie and his brother. Love to see you in Peoria on the 17th (although it does mean I'll miss the Len and Bob Bash)!
  9. you can ask Nathan Baliva, voice of the Chiefs. As a Cardinal fan, he stuck around when the Chiefs became part of the Cubs when the affiliation changed. He came to the right side though, while your gf did the opposite. Y'all just need to move to Des Moines or Peoria, is all!
  10. as Nate mentioned above, no word last night on coaching. From a preliminary schedule, though, it does appear that Bruce Sutter will be the draw for our IPMR night, so there's a little something exciting
  11. The Chiefs have their holiday party for season ticket holders on Monday evening, so I would guess that they may announce on Monday late? Hard to know for sure, but if I hear anything there, NSBB will be the first to know :)
  12. How so? They are not going to trade Fuld because there is really no interest. There is no MLB team that is "hot" after him The Cubs are not dead set on moving him I don't know that this is true at all - in fact, if I recall, from AZ Phil, there were plenty of scouts "hot" for him during the AFL. And, there are plenty of teams that could use him - for instance, heard Milwaukee's Assistant GM Gord Ash this AM on XM talking about needing an "on-base guy" for his outfield - they feel like they have plenty of sluggers and need someone to get on base in front of those guys. Interesting thoughts, anyway [and I think Sam's definitely got a shot at the 5th outfield job]
  13. ok, I feel stupid - is this "College Bowl Mania" or a different game? I can't tell...durrr. Someone help me out here? :)
  14. Raisin, we must have been typing at the same time - I put mine in Baseball Discussions, though (feel free to lock that one if you'd like) :)
  15. woo hoo! just saw this: story on cubs.com. From the article: Couldn't agree more. Congratulations, Sam! Couldn't have happened to a better guy.
  16. XM is reporting from the winter meetings all week long - with at least the morning show going an hour longer (5-9am central). Would guess they're doing similar with Charlie Steiner and "the show" in the PM. They'll also be covering the Rule 5 draft in its entirety on Thursday. If I remember hearing correctly, Nathan is down in Nashville with a contingent of Chiefs folks, so hopefully he'll have a chance to drop by and tell us how things are going. Pretty sure they're going to announce 2008 minor league managers for the Cubs this week too.
  17. just as a reminder - VORP = Value over Replacement Player and, according to BP, here's the info: Tejada 31.8 (9th of 37 w/ 200 PA or more) Theriot 6.6 (24th of 37 w/ 200 PA or more) Murton 7.3 (30th of 37 w/ 200 PA or more)
  18. thanks much for posting - I've been keeping my eye out and now I can start scheming for the March roadtrip. A perfect way to battle baseball withdrawal!
  19. woot! what a ridiculous fall - absolutely amazing. Hopefully this means that I'll at least get to see him play a bunch when we're at Spring Training in March :) Also looks like Josh Lansford is quietly having quite a good fall.
  20. here are the notes from the USA Baseball site as well as the Box Score from the IBAF site Looks like Maestri pitched an inning - walked 3 but struck out 2.
  21. At least they are using the right *brand* of equipment out there. I wonder if my employer is getting footage and stills they could use in the annual report or some of the advertising we do. Hmmm...might be time to make a casual mention to some friends in communications...
  22. oh, so sorry to hear about Rocky and his hernia. Back problems are never fun - I hope the surgery goes well and he's got enough time to rehab before spring training. I had posted the info on Renshaw in transactions, but thanks for the confirmation, splinter. I hadn't seen anything at BA, but more from a friend of a friend. It honks me off even more that he was the PTBNL for a bad trade, but wish him nothing but the best with the O's.
  23. Tim, thank you for all your hard work to get us upgraded. NSBB looks *amazing* and I know it must have taken a lot of time and effort. You're the best! :D
  24. glad to see Robbie Chirinos back. He seems to be able to pick up just about any infield spot and play it well.
  25. me too Raisin - he was the most consistent arm we had last year. Oh, and he's a really great guy too. I'll miss seeing him at Spring Training.
