  1. Hi All! For those of you in and around Chicago, thought this baseball tour of the city might be of interest: http://www.chicagohistory.org/planavisit/upcomingevents/tours/exploring-the-city-2#fields I won't be able to get up there on 7 June for this, but have done bus tours with the Chicago Historical Society before, and they always get someone interesting and very informed to lead.
  2. funny, I was thinking, "well, now the clubbie knows where his tips are coming from this year..."
  3. Those of us in Peoria knew the day was coming :yahoo: Now we just have to hope that he sticks with the big club at least through the Toronto series, as we're headed up. Have this hunch that we're going to be buying a Gallagher jersey sometime soon!
  4. good lord. it's stuff like this that makes me glad that I have a VIP line both to get in the stadium and to the concession line. They got this idea from the Rivermen, who managed to get 7000 people to games (and not a single one actually *saw* the game). We'll see how it goes - those folks are really expensive to bring in - hope the Chiefs will break-even (Rivermen tickets are $18/$13/$10 ) - more than the Chiefs $10/$9/$6. Incidently, in addition to doing "Pink in the Park" a couple of weeks ago, the Chiefs are doing Prostate Cancer awareness day with jerseys on 6/15 too. They also usually open up the field ahead of time for a "Play catch with dad on the field" - so with the celeb being there, not sure exactly how that'll get handled.
  5. actually, looking at this: http://www.peoriachiefs.com/team/rosters/ there were only 24 on the Chief roster, with Rhee being on the DL. Made made 25.
  6. that's pretty funny - would guess that 2/27 is when the Chiefs entered the roster information for all the guys. AJ & Kelly are young - but not *that* young! AJ just finished ISU - so he's 22ish and Kelly's got a master's degree so would guess he's more like 27ish? Have met both and can confirm they're older than 2mo
  7. The husband and I will be there. Still no word from the Chiefs on where they're putting us (we're season ticket holders), but am sure hoping its somewhere good! Incidentally, for those of you in the Peoria area, pretty sure the booster club is going to try and put some buses together to go up. Likely, you'd be responsible for your own tickets, but thinking we'd try and do this somehow. Not sure yet, but stay tuned and I'll be sure to update NSBB when the board decides what it wants to do.
  8. glad to see Mark Reed's bat coming around. Sounds like he's swinging it like he did in the 1st half of 2006 - sounds like maybe he got some help in the offseason or ST. Hopefully he's got a repeatable / sustainable approach back that works!
  9. woot! that'a boy Sean. Great action shot of him bunting in the article too :D
  10. Chiefs officially postponed due to (*freaking*) SNOW in the area - this is the email we got from Ryan, the box office wonder: Chiefs, Dragons Series Opener Postponed Doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday at 5:00 pm PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs and Dayton Dragons series opener has been postponed due to a wintry mix and anticipated freezing temperatures. The game will be made up in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 30 with the first game beginning at 5:00 pm. Tomorrow the Chiefs will send RH Hung-Wen Chen (0-0, 0.71) to the mound against the Dragons RH Scott Carroll (0-1, 5.29). For Wednesday's first game, the Chiefs will send RH Billy Muldowney (0-0, 0.00) in his first start of the year and LH Zach Ashwood (0-3, 3.52) for game two. Dayton will start RH Curtis Partch (0-3, 7.11) for game one followed by RH Matt Klinker (1- 1, 3.07) to start game two. The series will now begin on Tuesday April 29 at 11:00 am in the Chiefs annual D.A.R.E. Day. The Chiefs will be celebrating with the kids of Central Illinois for their successful completion of the D.A.R.E. program. Gates open at 9:30 am and all participating students in the D.A.R.E Day events will be treated to a fun-filled day of music, baseball and on-field entertainment.
  11. pretty sure this is the first game that Chen will have pitched for the Chiefs...hopefully we'll get the game in tonight and I'll be able to pass along my impressions tomorrow sometime.
  12. I can't believe the Chiefs actually played on Friday night. They were losing when I fell asleep, so glad to hear that they pulled it out in the bottom of the 9th. That said, it's really too bad, because it was Bradley night, and they were auctioning jerseys for charity...by 11:30 (or whenever they finally finished) there couldn't have been too many people left in the stands to bid. Hope they were still able to raise a bunch of $$$.
  13. I would say no to the idea that his pitching style is gimmicky at all. I'm certainly no trained eye, but at the low-A level, you see plenty of sidearmers, etc. Instead, I'd say, he looks like he's got "classic" mechanics (whatever *that* means) Oh, and a fun story for Raisin...I work in downtown Peoria, and my employer has office space in just about every building. Therefore, in the 82 meetings I attend in a week, I often have to leave my office at the "mother ship" and walk to one of the other buildings. Today, as I was walking past the Jimmy Johns (at about 9:15am, mind you), there was Dae-Eun, an older gentleman I'm guessing was his dad, and another younger guy, out for a morning stroll - guess they wanted to make the most of the off day! Peoria is a small place.
  14. eep - top of first HR (into the wind) by KC vs Ashwood. I may stick around for parts of the 2nd game after the booster club meeting. Or not.
  15. woot! I know it's only April, but it's good to get off to a decent start.
  16. pretty sure I'll be listening to Nate on the radio tonight. As much fun as sitting out in the 39 degree (33 windchill) Peoria weather sounds tonight, think I'm gonna pass. Am guessing Nate will have the windows closed on the booth tonight - stay warm everyone.
  17. Nate, I hope you're right - especially since we don't play Beloit at home again before the half ends. Should have started the game at 2pm or so - I'm betting that things are going to get fired up again about 5pm and kill any thought of actually getting things in.
  18. Just for Raisin's sake, I'll put my 2 cents in on DER's performance. He definitely looked the strongest of our starting pitchers that I've seen so far. He was consistently 90-92. I only stayed through the 3rd inning of the game he pitched (it was *cold* and I gave up trying to handle it), but it did seem like the hitters started picking up his fastball pretty early, but when they made contact, it was generally handle-able. I hope his dominance continues the 2nd and 3rd time he sees these teams!
  19. they also sell them at Hohokam Park in the Spring Training gift stores.
  20. Given the size of the system, I won't be surprised if the game ends up PPD. I agree, especially considering that the reason that the Chiefs are playing early is so Bradley can play tonight. They might be able to get the Bradley game in, but it's not looking good for the Chiefs. According to the website, they were supposed to make a decision on play vs postpone about 15 minutes ago, but site hasn't updated since then (PS - Nate, when I hit the "read more" link, I get a blank screen...)
  21. aside from Donaldson's heads-up play tagging out Benson, last night's game was *awful* to sit through. The cold wasn't even the big deal, but rather the defense that just was abyssmal. When the fact that the Homer the mascot uniform was new was the highlight, it hasn't been a good game. I left after the bottom of the 8th (couldn't stand it any longer) - so didn't even witness the 9th. Bleck. It was good to see Donaldson throw a bunch of guys out, though. He's got a great arm. Noticed Fleita and Dernier in the crowd (there may have been others and just missed them). We need a 1st baseman who can pick a ball out of the dirt, please. OK - end of rant. Look for better things soon. Really soon.
  22. I can't believe I forgot to enter this year. Darn. That's what I get for procrastinating I suppose. Still have some goodies for the fabulous prize packages that I'll be sending your way, Vance...will try and get things packaged up and sent this week sometime.
  23. The Chiefs loss was disappointing tonight - 8 errors in a single game must have just looked like the keystone cops. Hope that they clean that up soon. On the bright side, not a single one of those errors came from Dylan Johnston, so maybe that move to the outfield was the way to go. The good news, I suppose, is that despite a really horrid loss by the Peoria Rivermen, we scored 2 great jerseys - it was Chiefs night and the jerseys were better looking than most I've seen.
  24. the rainout in Des Moines does not give me a lot of hope for the Chiefs opener at Burlington, IA tonight. The drainage at Principal Park is probably a lot better than Burlington's field.
  25. hope all is well with Sam and he's back at things soon. Looking at the Smokies box, I gotta wonder what Kyle Reynolds is feeding himself - he's really developing into a great talent. Good to see.
