  1. Yeah, which is a bit of a suprise, but it is much easier to indentify hitters who all of a sudden have seen huge drops in production the last year or two. Has there been a pitcher caught yet??
  2. Definitely good news for the Jays! I still think that is a bunch of money to throw at a guy that has potential and big-time arm problems, but I do hope it works out for both.
  3. Yeah, I know this is being discussed in another thread. I think it has more to do with allowing Maddux to open at Wrigley against STL. I don't think Dusty views him as a number 2 pitcher. I would hope not, but you never know with Dusty. Saving Maddux for the Wrigley opener is probably a smart move though.
  4. His W-L record isn't really the issue. At all. or any pitcher for that matter. BTW dont dismiss record completely it does factor in, it is the ultimate measure of success. I know it isnt something the pitcher has complete control over, but in the end it doesnt matter if you had 200 plus strikeouts and a great ERA, if you didnt win games you werent a success. Also when you look at the numbers it is a strong indicator of success in wins, if you have the above stats then you most likely will have a good record, but it doesnt guarentee it. A W is all that matters at the end of the day. I may very well be wrong, but thats just how I feel :D
  5. His W-L record isn't really the issue. At all. or any pitcher for that matter. That may be true, but what im getting at is if im investing that kind of money i want someone that is proven and clutch, not someone with potential.
  6. Thats a pretty interesting setup, what would that do to the all-star game if all the stars were getting ready or playing for their country? I do like it better than the current setup. But I think a November or December series would be best.
  7. Im not ready to give up on Hill, but I agree on Rusch. I dont mind him making a spot start here or there, but not as a mainstay in the rotation.
  8. I think you would have to eliminate Guzman as he is not ready to handle any kind of load, needs to make some starts in the minors. Marshall would be interesting but he needs a bit more time as well. I think it comes down to Hill and Ryu (hopefully) and I would be fine with either. In the case of Guzman, why would pitching one start in the majors be any more of a strain than pitching in the minors? I dont think it would be a big strain for one start, but he apparently isnt quite ready. IMO he needs to make some pitch count controlled starts to get his arm back to full strength instead of throwing him out there for 5 or 6 innings. From what I hear he doesnt quite have everything back, so I would rather go with Ryu or Hill. JMO, I haven't followed him closely though so I could be wrong (wouldnt be the first time :D )
  9. hmmm, interesting. Well I have to say Korea all the way!!!! Were they even predicted to go this far?
  10. I really haven't been paying to close attention to the WBC other than the a few US games, but who is in first?
  11. Well at least we got to see a few youngsters. First time I have ever seen Pie in an actual game, so that was fun at least. Yeah, I know what you mean. It just gets a bit depressing when the Cubs lose to the Sox (or anyone, for that matter). I think I saw Pie in an ST game earlier.... no matter, the point I'm making, it would have been nice if the Sox announcers didn't call him Pie. (Like 3.141.....) Well I dont think they are too intelligent anyways. Yeah it would have been nice to see a more competitive game that we were actually in.

  13. Yeah I never liked that transaction and thought they overpaid immensely for a guy that was like 49-50.
  14. You have 4 starters now.Hill,Guzman,Koronka,Wellemeyer. as a 5.Hill is 26 years old and we won't trade him but he can't step in as a 5 yet?I think if they trade for a starter to add to this they feel Prior will not go all year. Please dont mention Koronka in that conversation :D I think you should add Ryu to the list. Didn't really want to mention Koronka but I'm not the one who called him up and let him start games. True, so I guess his name is definitely in there than.

  16. I agree if the price is to steep to aquire a proven guy to step in then you need to give a youngster a try.

  18. From everything I've read he will be sent down regardless of what he does this Spring because the team wants a lefthanded bat (even though he's out slugging Todd Hollandsworth). really? what more can the guy do?
  19. I still have hope the creature will be a major league hitter. Is he going to be an everyday guy or 4th OFer?
  20. We're spoiled by Lee's D, that wasnt a great throw, but still something Lee would have gotten.
  21. yikes the defense at 1st base today hasnt been to good, I miss DLEE!
  22. he doesn't have the innings on his arm yet, unfortunately. he has the stuff, that's for sure. I'll be quite honest I havent been following the Cubs yet in ST, how is Guzman looking? I don't think he's pitched much (maybe 2 innings or so). His ERA is definitely above 10 though. He's filthy, it just isn't all there yet, including arm strength. In that case send him back down, wouldnt want him in the 5th spot yet.
