  1. Ehh, I dont care that Neifi is playing third for ARam today, we have to sit Ramirez sometime. I just hope that Neifi is batting in the bottom third of the order today, leaving him to hit second yesterday was just lazy.
  2. this thread has taken a turn for the hilarious first of all, the phrase DUSTY BUSTING is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. it's childish, stupid, and utterly ridiculous. any attempts to take any argument seriously with that phrase is impossible. with that out of the way, Neifi didn't do a bleeping thing today. he got a single and bunted corey over. the cubs lost 1-0. if you honestly believe that playing Perez over Hairston gave us a better chance to win today, you must be out of your mind. ZZ, your argument really is ridiculous. the fact that you mention players tiring is totally absurd. i mean... c'mon. Hairston has started one game this year. this injury to Walker is the reason we have Hairston on the team, and we just waste him on the bench. there is not one aspect of the game that Perez performs better then Hairston in. i mean, we lost 1-0. maybe hairston can hit a solo home run, or hit a gapper and get something going. sure, perez could do that too, but you can't possibly argue that perez is more likely to do one of those things then hairston. i have no problem with giving Baker credit for somethig he's done, because i have nothing to gain by not giving him credit. it's not like my opinion has any bearing on what the Cubs' management thinks, so i have nothing to gain from being dishonest. all i want is whatever's best for the cubs, because i want them to win. but here's my honest belief about Baker: he sucks. he's done some good things, but he's also done a bunch of horrible things, as we all can attest. the fact that Perez and Macias are even taking up two rosters spots in Hendry's fault, but in this situation, Hairston SHOULD BE PLAYING. argh. also, i would like to help you add to your list of people who are also more successful than me, have had better gals than me, and will likely go down in the history books for something, and i have no problem with it: Dusty Baker The Ultimate Warrior Ronald Reagan Steven Spielberg Jesus Roast the D--- Goat True story, I was talking about the Ultimate Warrior at work the other day, and some guy in there mentioned that he was dead. The guy sounded legit, like a real wrestling know-it-all (nerd) so I took his word for it. Until today, when I looked the Ultimate Warrior (or Warrior, as he now likes to be called apparently) and I discovered that he is an extreme right wing racist. Weird huh? yeah i read somethingawful today too. pretty funny stuff. Weirdly enough, the timing was entirely coincidental. I didnt even know he was suing SA until after I had looked him up.

  4. This thread isnt called "Neifi's bad hitting experience", so I think that is what were doing.
  5. I'd really call someone who thought stats were the answer to every situation, who didn't take into account circumstances and particulars, to be the dense one. So I guess we disagree then, my god, when did that start happening?
  6. I don't care if Neifi went 12 for 12 and hit an 8 run homer, putting him in over Hairston was stupid. I really dont see how you can defend this. That is the silliest thing I've read in a long time. It shows you just think stats are the end-all be-all. You really must think that because you have a book full of stats you are qualified to be a professional baseball manager. Your statement just defies basic understanding of the practicalities of a 162+ game baseball season - practically nobody plays 162 games a year, as the manager you have to decide when to pull the string on a bench player. What are your stats for that? Oh, you'd just play your best players 162 games a year, cuz there's no stat for 'tiredness'. Even in the hot Wrigley summers. Like the '69 Cubs. God, it's not as simple as you believe it to be. Sometimes Perez over Hairston is the right move. God, the arrogance of the stat worshippers.... Keep grasping at straws and making assumptions. If you seriously think that playing a person that is statistically worse than someone else is a good idea, if you really believe that, and you arent just being obtuse because arguing on the internet gives you a stiffy, well, I dont know what. Have fun talking to yourself for the next 155 games.
  7. He was 1 for 3 with a sacrifice. It's hard to rail on him for making an out when he was ordered to sacrifice. I too would expect Hairston to outdo a 333 OBP throughout the year, but Eaton was on today, I'm ecstatic that Neifi managed a hit. There's no excuse for Macias over Dubois. But why extrapolate one game into 162? There's so many more variables to consider in 1 real game as opposed to 161 imaginary ones, and Dusty pulled the right string with Perez over Hairston. Despite the nearly 2 pages of anti-Perez posts Perez was one of our more successful hitters today. That's just the facts...Those who hated on Perez for this game got shown up. Oh yeah, I forgot cuz Dusty didn't do it, I bet Hairston would have gone 4 for 4 with 4 grand slams. Jesus Christ. Playing Neifi was the wrong thing to do, regardless of whether or not he got one measly hit. Yippee. It seems that with this logic if Neifi had gone 4 for 4 with 4 grand slams you would still make the same statement. That, my friend, makes you a Buster on this occasion. Try being logical for a change rather than emotional. You stat freaks just don't seem to get it...there are variables to take into account that you have no idea of. You think in every situation you go with a .275 hitter over the .270 hitter - nobody who coaches in baseball agrees with that. What's funny is that you take a huge generalization, a .275 average, and you apply to every single individual case and assume that you know with 100% authority when you will be right and when you will be wrong, which of course you do not. Yet in real life, when dealing with people and ideas, I bet you try to avoid making generalizations to allow for these individual cases which you so arrogantly ignore in baseball. I would suggest learning how to apply the scientific method, logic, and the process of generalizations in all phases of your life. It will improve it. Sorry, but, take those 2 pages of this thread out, playing Perez was the right move today. Na-nanny-boo boo stick your head in poo-poo. I don't care if Neifi went 12 for 12 and hit an 8 run homer, putting him in over Hairston was stupid. I really dont see how you can defend this.

  10. When we need to pinch hit with two outs, should we just assume that it will be Macias everytime? I dont understand why when we get two outs, we just forfeit.
  11. It's Hairston people. H-A-I-R-S-T-O-N Sorry, I just wish people would stop spelling it wrong. :D There's a difference between spelling every little word correctly, and getting someones name right.
  12. I bet Neifi wins the game today. It just seems like something that would happen.
  13. He looked very good. Considering he was brought into a game with the Royals already trailing 7-1, it appears they are going to ease him in with mop up duty. I'm pretty sure at this point he's as good as gone. I wouldn't be so sure. There's 157 games to go and he has to stay on the roster for all of them. While he looked good tonight, he may not the next time he's used. Yeah, but they don't give a crap if he pitches effectively for them because their team sucks. Derrick Turnbow sucked as a Rule V pick. Miguel Asencio was bad for the Royals in '02 but they didn't care because they thought he had potential. Johan Santana winning the Cy Young gives even more incentive for crappy teams to hang onto high-ceiling players for their Rule V year. I said it when the draft went down, Sisco would be gone. Thank God we have Rohlicek and Randolph, though. yeah, that didnt work out so well.
  14. Wow, Petrick ahead of Pinto?
  15. dude, someone needs to slap you silly. Would you guys be so bananas about him if he hit .210/.375, 200Ks and only had 30 homers this year. Dunn is so all-or-nothing I wouldn't be surprised if he does terrible and doesn't even reach the Mendoza line. He could hit .270 and 50 dingers - I dunno. He's an enigma at this point. An enigma wrapped in shroud caught in a riddle stuck in fog surrounded by uncertainty. And he is worse than Carlos Lee in LF. And that is bad.... You wouldnt want someone that would hit 30 HRs and have a .375obp?
  16. I may have to adopt David Wright. I knew he was going to be good, but last year he really impressed me, and so far he looks tremendous. Watching the game today, he is 1-1 with 3 walks, and the last one loaded the bases. And hes cute.
  17. 4 or 5 games then
  18. If he doesnt, I will be mad dissapointed.
  19. Not to nitpick one little part of your well thought-out post, but I disagree with this idea. Just because Dusty was a good baseball player does not make him a good manager. There are countless examples where one does not translate to the other, in all sports (Magic Johnson is one example). Further, I think baseball is one sport where fans can have an understanding of "strategery" that is greater than or equal to the manager. I agree that the only situations that we are not privy to are the day in day out health issues of the players (and that includes things like guys having a bad hangover or the runs or something like that). In Dusty's case, there have been too many instances of glaringly poor managing to constantly hide behind the excuse that he has more information than we do. I would venture to say that there are a few folks around here that could do a better job managing a game than Dusty. Well thanks for the compliment. I think at least Dusty has a ton of experience on his side, definitely more than me and I'd guess more than most. He could misuse that info, like your point about Magic, that is somewhat true.... I will make this statement: there are a ton of people who think they could manager better than Dusty who actually can't. Most of them post on message boards. I think Zambo or Rusch are a guaranteed K in that situation. I think the opposing pitcher bears down and makes them look stupid. I think half of pitcher's hits come from the opposing pitcher not taking them seriously. I think anyone who advises using Rusch over Macias in a hitting situation needs to back away from the calculator. The point isnt that Zambrano or Rusch or Ghandi should have been sent up there, the point is, Macias and Neifi are so GOD AWFUL, that somehow, two fat pitchers have better situational lifetime averages than they do. Arguing otherwise is just being obtuse.
  20. A warm body. Seriously, you have to be asleep at the wheel to bat Neifi Perez in that situation. He was signed as a defensive backup. You're telling me that we traded Sosa for a player who isn't even going to be the FIRST PLAYER OFF THE BENCH. Kill me if every game is like this this year.
  21. I was wondering the same thing, were you not around last season? Or the season before that? The reason im pissed is because i was hoping things.had.changed.
  22. This should be a sticky that only bad manager moves go in. There should be one for discussion only, and one for listings. Of course, ZZ may go crazy and leave, but we'll take the good with the good.
  23. Did you hear what Kruk said last night about Dunn? It was a seemingly innocuous chat about Dunn's power, and of course, his K's, when all of a sudden Kruk says "hit .250 with 200 k's, well i hit .350 with 100 k's and I DID MY JOB" it was something to that effect, man he is a fat bastard.
  24. Terrrmmellllll got an RBI today btw
  25. Not only are we going to get him back, but we'll also be getting 125K or whatever, an extra year without having to put him on the 40 man, and he'll have major league experience. AND HIS FAT A WILL BE IN SHAPE.
