  13. You don't know what any of them are going to vote. None of us do but I strongly suspect that Cuban will not get a 75% yes vote from the good old boys club. Based on what? The fact that the owner's won't accept someone who would be incredible for league revenue and who's bid would likely boost the value of their own franchises? Based on the fact that is baseball's responsibility to select an owner who will be a good caretaker of one of the historic franchises in the league and it's ballpark. It was the big reason they did not want Dolan as the owner of the Red Sox even though he had the highest bid. Even bigger was Fenway Park. He now owns the Knicks and look at what a mess he has made of that storied franchise. They will also face one of the nastiest legal battles in recent history. If it turns out Cuban was the highest bidder, had secured all the financing he needed, and presented a realistic bid, but MLB shoots him down, the mess of lawsuits will be unholy. Zell has an army of lawyers. The Tribune's shareholders will have a heck of a case. Cuban, his minority buyers, and financiers also will have their pick of causes of action. If Congress gets involved, the backlash will be terrible for MLB. MLB might have an old boys club, but they would get shredded in court if that happens. It could cost them billions of dollars. This is what I like to hear

  18. I'm glad I read this thread again, because the first time I saw it I thought you guys said that Flaherty had a "head" injury, which seemed more important.
  19. I disagree with everything this post stands for. I agree with the capitalization of the first word in each sentence and the proper placement of periods. what does this guy have against commas, anyway?
  20. is anyone not praising Theriot? I have my doubts that he can keep it up, if not for the rest of this year, at least for next year and onwards, but he's been a godsend so far.
  21. God I'm so ready for football. Let's do some way too early division picks NFC East Dallas, NY, Washington, Philly This division is pretty freaking stacked. You could probably do just as well picking the names out of a hat. Can T.O. stay elite? Was Eli's end of 2007 a mirage? Is Jason Taylor healthy? What about McNabb? NFC North MInnesota, Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit. For all the talk about how amazing Minnesota's defense was last year, Green Bay allowed fewer points. It's hard for me to drop the Packers based on Aaron Rodgers being the QB instead of Favre when Tavaris Jackson is still quarterbacking in Minnesota. NFC South New Orleans, Carolina, Tampa, Atlanta N.O. isn't as bad as they played last year, I like Tampa's defense but outside of the 45-year old Joey Galloway, I really don't like anyone on their offense. I liked Carolina's draft better than Tampa's, too and if the Panthers get Williams more carries and get average play out of QB, I think they take second. NFC West Seattle, St. Louis, Arizona, San Francisco I'll never buy into Arizona or SF until I actually see them do something on the field. They've been the two teams du jour the last two years and neither have done jack. Honestly, I'd like to pick St. Louis to win, but even though I know a lot of 2007 was due to injuries, picking a 3 win team to go from worst to first just seems like too big of a leap.
