  2. well, we lost to texas this year and it worked out ok for us
  3. ridiculous. maybe he meant in the "having a disease" sense
  4. dude, i looked up this guys' posts and they were so rad that they inspired me to write a rap back in july rawdog is p. legit guys
  5. I'm not a big fan of trading Vitters for anything short of a perennial allstar. Vitters is probably the most overrated Cub prospect since Bobby Hill. Why? Because he is. He had good high school stats with the caveat of Mono (or whatever) his senior year, so that makes 3 good years @ high school. He had a good cape league and viola the "scouts" love his tools. He's not done anything in high school or elsewhere to justify an elite draft status. Then somebody here says they wouldn't trade him for anything less than a perennial all-star. So far the only thing going for him is that he's from SoCal and he'll still only be 19 next year. At least Hill was a great college player. what does a lefthanded pitcher with a sweet mustache from the 80s know anyway
  6. it's better to have loved jake peavy and lost than to never have loved jake peavy at all
  7. I really expected this board to be better than this. I come to this thread expecting to find people saying "no thanks" to the idea of Rafael Furcal as our shortstop in 2009, but instead I'm greeted by a hundred posters all saying that he should be our No. 1 offseason target. Excuse me? Rafael Furcal? Yeah, that 164 OPS+ last year looks great. Let me know when he does that over the course of a full season. His career OPS+ is 96. Why don't we give Jack WIlson a call, he had a great part of a season once, too. Anyone think they could lull Shawon Dunston out of retirement? I feel like I'm Ian Malcolm and you guys are all Donald Gennaro.
  8. *******HEY HEY HEY IMB EVERYDAY!!!!********
  9. my only regret is that he didnt say "cobs" in the thread title
  10. this is one of the rare occasions when saying that a guy "can hit a little" is actually a huge over exaggeration
  11. After dismantling Raw last week, I'm in the finals against a guy that scored almost 140 points a week ago do i start barber vs. baltimore or turner vs. minnesota last year i made it to the finals in this league and lost by a point or two because i screwed up one roster spot. I'd rather not do that again.
  12. murray is out for the NC game :(
  13. How do you say something after words? Jk. I agree, Pierce is obnoxious. It all started with him acting like Inglewood's hardest and throwing the Crip sign at Horford. There were probably things before that, but he wasn't relevant enough for anyone to be paying attention. i thought he threw up the b
  14. and i don't mean this to sound like any kind of attack or whatever, i like to read colin's stuff and i normally agree. i just can't wrap my head around anything but contempt for joey gathright
  15. so...gathright at 3/30 is better than abreu at 3/2.4?
  16. unless gathright can do that awesome baseball simulator 1.000 thing where the outfielders jump 50 feet in the air to rob a home run, i really have my doubts that his defense covers up a .600 ops
  17. how is he defensively? he's had one good year and one bad year with the bat, though I guess I would weight a good year by him at 23 years old over a bad year by him at 24.
  18. FUN FACT: Khalil Greene out-OPSd Joey Gathright by only .016 last year
  19. you can't take park factors out of the equation, scarey
  20. Don't even count defense, which had a better offensive year? And if you have any justification, could you please share. I didn't realize just how good of a year Morneau had last year. Without getting too deep into his stats, his OPS+ was higher still seems an odd way to prove a point about adam dunn That's just it. It's not a point about Adam Dunn. It' s a point that OBP and HRs aren't conclusive like you guys seem to make a case for. Right, but a large portion of it is about OBP and SLG, two areas Dunn excels at. Is your point supposed to be that Dunn isn't a productive hitter? because i promise you that is very wrong.

  22. despite being just a first baseman, unless morneau is a butcher in the field, i'll have to go with him by a slim margin
  23. I don't get this board's infatuation with Joey Gathright. I expected to open this thread up and find a bunch of people upset at the signing, but instead everyone is falling all over themselves to praise him. Why? I don't get it. He's fast. Congratulations, why don't we sign Roger Cedeno? Why don't we just grab an ex-college wide receiver, he'd have as much baseball skill as Joey freakin' Gathright. Hell, why didn't we just stick with Pie? He's fast, too. Joey Gathright's career-best OPS+ is 88. And yet this whole board is ready to anoint him as some kind of savior. Are you people seeing the same thing I am? Clearly not. I feel like I'm Ed Harris in Apollo 13 and you guys are Tom Hanks' mom.
  24. would it even be a disappointment if a team full of teenagers didn't make the playoffs when they're in the same division with boston and new york
