You're wrong. I'm not debating it. they can't get get a good coach, and they either waste good recruits' development on bad coaches or just flat out can't recruit anyway. They haven't been good in any current teenager's lifetime and won't for the foreseeable future. The girls on campus are all ugly, the fans are terrible and the academics are harder 99% of the competition. There's literally no reason for anyone to go to notre dame. you'll probably end up with some third-tier coach, anyway. Just get used to a life of arguing over whether or not you deserved the Insight Bowl or the Humanitarian.com bowl (see: missouri). Four years ago they were an illegal push from the national title game, with a team that really shouldn't have even been that good. Again, you're wrong. I'm simply not going to debate it. ETA: Look, I'm not saying that ND's ever going to be a consistent title contender again. Hardly any team can be or has been a title contender for more than two straight years these days, so that's probably out of the question. But there's little reason that Notre Dame can't be at least like an Oklahoma or a Florida, consistently in the BCS conversation with occasional runs to the title. Charlie Weis proved you can get very talented kids to play for Notre Dame, so it comes down to the next coach to keep that up. Charlie Weiss got talented kids to come to Notre Dame because he rode Willingham's recruits into the BCS game and promised them all he could get them into the NFL. Since then, Notre Dame has sucked, Brady Quinn has failed and Claussen and Tate and a couple of 6 or 7-win seasons is all he has to show for it. The next ND coach is going to be someone that 90 percent of HS football players in america couldn't pick out of a lineup of 2. What's best case? Brian Kelley? Great, someone no one recognizes who couldn't coach a defense on Madden 10. At least he has a track record of winning in a BCS conference. If he doesn't come it's just going to be some scrub that will win 6 games and be a placeholder until ND thinks it has hit on the next big thing, and then that will fail and so on and so on. Look at the situation you're in. The last 2 decades of failure will keep the recruits away, and the unrealistic expectations of the university and fan base will keep any decent coach from wanting to come, too. Look at OU's situation, they lucked into Bob Stoops because they said "f it" and started from scratch. You think ND will ever allow that? Not a chance in hell. Search your heart, you know this to be true.
