levine said this morning to expect a payroll around $150M but the way he explained it was some arguello level math so i'm not sure how much credence to lend it I love that arguello will never live that down (here at least)
about that... http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/top-100-prospects/2012/2612998.html i meant as a pitcher, lefty, gas, huge breaking ball, 13.5k/9 in AAA as a 22-year-old
I still think Moore would be a good buy. He was almost an unparalleled prospect, came up and shined in his debut and won a playoff game IIRC. I think something happened to his elbow that offseason, because he was good but down a few notches the next year, then the ligament popped. He seems like he's right in that window of "ok im back from TJS time to be good again"
So conflicted. On one hand, I dont want the Reds to get anything of value back. But on the other hand, if all they got back was trash, Im going to wish it was our trash.
Yeah, this is the perfect opportunity to trade Soler for some pitching or whatever and pick up a 3-win certainty OF in his place. It's completely reasonable (based on his playoff performance) that he is that or more by this year even, but it's probably not worth the risk.
The issue isn't whether you are "happy" to let him opt-out after the three years. The issue is whether that scenario is *good enough* to balance out the downside of being stuck with him if he isn't. Would you give 33-year-old David Price (coming off three straight healthy, productive years) 4/120?
my god, i wanted to see where kobe ranked in PER (257th, 9.94.) But there's a lot of sadness in these rankings Paul Pierce (307th, 6.72) Vince Carter (301st, 7.14) Derrick Rose (253rd, 10.27) Joakim Noah (242nd, 10.70)
so what? if you dont give him an opt out and just give him straight 7/210, and he's good but not great, he can't opt out anyway, so what's the difference
To me, the overpay comes in the form of the opt-out after three years. He's the highest paid pitcher in history, it's probably tough to get much more money after that. I would not hesitate to give these guys opt outs. If I can get three years of a stud pitcher but he walks away for more money after, fine by me. Give me the three year of studliness for only money and I am all set. yeah for real, that's best case scenario.
wander cabrera was a five star prospect in my OOTP franchise from the time he was 18 until he was 27, but he never got any better than 1 star. that's my wander cabrera story
So this happened today. Some redneck was trolling curt schilling on facebook about the video game thing and Curt got into this long drawn out fight where they both looked like idiots. Then he threatened (sort of) to shoot the guy, which was really funny. So i pointed it out on twitter and he actually responded lol https://twitter.com/DGoforth918/status/669312011050684416
