  1. Yeah, pretty much. To put it another way. If LaRussa and Guillen were placed in a cage and forced to fight to the death, who would you want to come out alive? I wouldn't open the cage until they were both dead.
  2. I predict the Cubs will go 54-10 the rest of the way. Finishing with a record of 92-70 and miss the playoffs by 1 game. I also predicted the Cubs would be good this year too.
  3. I just sent a case of Vodka each to Baker and Hendry's offices. Drink up boys.
  4. I really like the picture of Jaque diving back to touch home plate. What a great action pic. I tend to get to caught up in the moment and forget about taking pictures during the action. Good job. And those seats behind home plate, I could only be lucky enough to score great seats like those one day. For now I'll stick with the bleachers on my rare trips to Wrigley. My favorite picture of the year was taken early on in the season (April 11th) when the Reds were in town and the Cubs pennant was flying at the top of the standings. I told my wife (who is a Reds fan) that I had to take the picture before the game, because it may not be on top after the game...And sure enough, the Reds won...that day. But the Cubbies got'em the following day. I left town happy. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Wilmo11/cubs2.jpg
  5. He was holding a sign that said, "Dusty's an idiot"!
  6. Always something isn't it? Maybe that's why he can only go 60 pitches in the game, he takes 100 pitches before the game to get the noodle loose. I thought since he wasn't injured this year, it would be a better option than last season.
  7. I still don't understand why Baker/Rothschild are so dead set against putting Wood in the pen. If the guy is only good for a limited number of pitches this seems to be the best option. One of a few things could happen. He continues to pitch and actually contributes to the team. While building arm strength in hopes to someday return to being a starter. (similar to Smoltz after his surgery, it worked pretty well for him) He could flourish in the pen and possibly become a good closer some day. Or, he could blow out his arm/shoulder/elbow, in which case he goes back to not contributing to the team, kinda like now, and he's gone at seasons end. And he isn't the Cubs problem anymore. I guess it goes back to thinking outside the box. The way it is now, we get NOTHING out of this guy. Do something!!!
  8. What? No option to chose Neifi?
  9. I think Jeremy Piven is hilarious. I had to change my signature as soon as I heard that line in the show last night. I'm really ticked that I missed the 7th inning stretch yesterday. Especially considering I watched Prior throw batting practice in the first inning.
  10. *refrains from making any type of comment or snarky political metaphor* probably a good thing since you're a European. :P For the record, I'm just studying abroad at the moment, Park Ridge native. You went all the way to England just to study one broad? That must be one fine piece!
  11. The best game I was at was back in 96, 97, 98, hell I'm really not sure. I do know is it was the day the Hawks knocked the Pacers out of the NBA playoffs. (My buddy brought a small tv to the game) Anyway, we were playing the Mets, we were in the left field bleachers and the fans were tearing up Bernanrd Gilkey. Bottom of nine, Cubs are down, Sammy comes up and rocks one onto Waveland, it bounces off the street and crashes through a window in the building across the street. I swear the ball flew directly over our heads. Of course the place was going crazy. Hands down, best game I have ever attended.
  12. As bad as this season has been, reading this post sure does bring back a LOT of great memories and reminds me why I root for the Cubs, the greatest franchise in ALL of major league sports. I love being a life long Cubbie fan. I'm glad my mom decided to buy me that first pack of baseball cards in 81' and thank God she didn't pick up the Hockey cards.
  13. If you watch the games on ESPN, that Steve "for all you young players out there" Stone does, he could become a smarter player. I personally think Stone offers a lot to young and old fans that didn't play professionally. I'm sure Jaque could learn a thing or two.
  14. I would have to disagree with you on the Great American Ballpark. I think it's a great place to watch a ball game. There isn't a bad seat in the house and it's even better when the Cubs are on the field. I live in Indy and it's much easier drive to Cincy then Chicago unfortunately. My wife and I go there several times a year. I would take the bridge over the river (it's a walkable distance) to 'Tucky and go to the Hofbrau House. It's a German restaurant/bar with outdoor seating. We enjoy going there before the game to get some grub and throw back a few. And business really picks up after the game. I do agree, Skyline is a must while you are there.
  15. Pujols may be classy in the sense that he doesn't run his mouth. BUT, he sure does like to admire his home runs and that irritates the piss out of me.
  16. He hasn't been officially placed on the DL yet, but it's guaranteed that he will be placed on it. When Rothschild came out to the mound and Williamson said the same thing two or three times. King Buck said he was saying "I'm fine, I'm fine", But I thought he was saying "I'm done, I'm done". Did anyone else notice this?
  17. I'd start with owner, who else, Mark Cuban. GM Billy Beane, imagine what he could do with Cuban type money to play with. Manager would be Bobby Cox. Pitching coach, I would have to reunite Bobby with Leo Mazzone. Hitting coach. I don't know if he would be a good teacher or not, but he is my all time favorite non-Cub hitter...Tony Gwynn. Bench coach would be Zimmer, I don't know if he could help any, but I love Don freaking Zimmer. Base coaches, I would have Ozzie Guillen (just to piss off the Sox fans) and Tony LaRussa (just to piss off the Cards fans) What???? I can dream can't I?
  18. Anyone have any idea if the Drew Stubbs kid is any relation to Franklin Stubbs, the former LA Dodger? And how about Evan Longoria, he a dropped "n" away from being the real hot chick on Desperate Housewives.
  19. Holy crap! I am totally lost just in reading the post. Hell, I didn't even open the article. Guess I'll stick to slinging Pepsi.
  20. While Hendry continues to back Dusty on what seems to be a daily basis, the fact remains the team is still losing. So MacPhail needs to grow a "set" and tell Hendry, "since you have so much confidence in your manager and his coaching staff, the problem is obviously you and the team YOU assembled". Bite the bullet and fire Hendry and his entire rag-tag coaching staff. I really don't want Hendry making ANY moves. He will only screw things up even more. With that being said, I truly am amazed how this organization can't develop talent. The "K"ory Patterson thing is making me sick and the way the can't miss talent struggles, then gets traded and does well elsewhere is dumbfounding. I have been a Cub fan since I was 6 years old (1980) and I've tried to tell myself I'm done, I'm not watching them anymore until fat Dusty is gone, but here I am back at NSBB reading the posts and venting. I really believe the 2003 season ruined it for me. Before 03' I didn't expect the Cubs to do much. I saw them make the playoffs in 84', 89', and 98'. I considered myself lucky. Then 03' came and we beat the Braves in the NLDS and came within...Well you all know how it goes. I was fortunate though, I only had to listened to game 6 and 7 on a radio. I was on my honeymoon on a cruise ship in the middle of the Caribbean somewhere. Yeah hearing it sucked, but I didn't have to see it. I, like most everyone else thought, they'll make it back in 04'. Well, we were close, a few tweaks and we'll be there in 05', not so fast. And even one short month ago, I was thinking, this might be the year. Ha!!! Cub brass, MacPhail, some suit in the Trib penthouse, SOMEBODY make a change for God sake. Give us die-hard Cub fans something, anything. Well, not another second baseman, but something, hell fire the freaking ball boy. I just want to know you give a [expletive]. I know this is a rant and if you wasted your time reading it, sorry. I was only go to write the first paragraph and then something else happened and it turned into a vent for me. I do feel a little better. And I really don't understand how people are able to just "pick" another team to cheer for. If you can, great for you... I guess? but as horrible as the Cubs get, I find myself flipping on the next game and then coming here to read about "things" after another Cub loss. Well, I'm done, for now. Thanks for forum so I could "let it go". By the way, what time is game next game?
  21. "Hey AJ, Barrett thought AJ stood for Another Jab"... Okay maybe I'm not very good at this either.
  22. Barrett has been my favortie Cub since he got in Roy Oswalt's face a few years back...Hell maybe it was last year. The seasons all seem to run together when your favorite team plays like the Cubs do. Then the situation last week against the Padres and Dave "Don't call me 'Bip'" Roberts. Here's an idea, fire Dusty and have Barrett be Player/Manager. Hell the last guy I remember to do that was Pete Rose. I think MLB needs another player/manager. Why? I have no idea. But really, it CAN"T get any worse!!!
  23. lol is anyone else concerned about his velocity, or is the Des Moines gun typically slow??? 89-93 is not "Wood-esque" The loss of velocity after surgery is what I was worried about the most. Less velocity = more control = less walks? No? no Greg Maddux would disagree...
  24. I say bring back Don Baylor...At least then we didn't expect to win. But seriously, I don't care who replaces Baker at this point, unless they can pull a 03' Jack McKeon, but the whole staff needs to go. Except maybe Chris Speier. ...Hey what's McKeon up too these days??? No really....what about McKeon. We do have a few key pieces to the 03' Marlins team.
