  1. Why, so we can see a starting pitcher manage to lose two games in a row for the first time since the invention of the radio?
  2. How little value do you want? I think he's sucking plenty to get little in return. He just saved the game on two straight very good defensive plays.
  3. Mine was better though.
  4. Uhhhh yeahh this really makes you wonder. If that's true, then why aren't the Cubs scoring more runs?
  5. i don't think it was about whether or not he was going to jail and if they would have to pay the three days he would stay there, but rather more about the potential black eye on the organization that sort of incedent would cause, and the effect throughout the whole ballclub as a result of that. If he had to go to court for another DUI, I think that could play out longer than three days in jail. A judge could recognize that it was his third time and then the only way for him to learn would be a significant period of jail time. That could be a couple of months maybe even longer depending on the judge. Here's the info for Illinois law: Third DUI Conviction - Class 4 felony Minimum six-year loss of full driving privileges. Possible imprisonment for up to three years. Maximum fine of $10,000. And the celebrity with good lawyer penalty?
  6. Except that's not true. Neifi had a sub .300 OBP. Cedeno now is better than Neifi last year. What about the non-OBP things.
  7. So far, Cedeno's OPS is a bit higher than Neifi!'s was last year. Plus Cedeno is 23 and Neifi! is, well, old. I think I'd rather have Macias back than Neifi! I like the weak swings better than the swinging bunts. \ Yeah, a tiny bit higher and worse D, but I like him too. I'm just saying, playing worse than Neifi, he's hit rock bottom. He can only get better from this point.
  8. Nobody is suggesting he should be benched for Neifi, just that he is playing worse than Neifi did last year.
  9. i think they would laugh hendry off the phone. It's Ned Colletti, not Billy Beane. There's a difference.
  10. If the season is over, may as well get something for him.
  11. If they can't play a position, they shouldn't be in baseball. I hate the DH. There's no strategy in it whatsoever. I would also like to do away with interleague play. Dumbest idea ever. I agree. I hate it too. It doesn't bother me because I don't watch AL baseball very often, but when I do, I find it a little boring.
  12. If Neifi was putting up Cedeno's numbers they'd represent a career year. Neifi put up the same line last year with much better defense, actually. In what fantasy world? He had a sub .300 OBP. Just about the same OPS....and better D. I hope Cedeno improves his game more, but it is a fact that Neifi Perez in 2005 was the better player if you are looking strictly at the stats so far.
  13. i don't think it was about whether or not he was going to jail and if they would have to pay the three days he would stay there, but rather more about the potential black eye on the organization that sort of incedent would cause, and the effect throughout the whole ballclub as a result of that. Oh, well, I guess I just didn't think the rest of the team would get really emotional over it. Did it hurt Atlanta's record? I can't recall.
  14. If Neifi was putting up Cedeno's numbers they'd represent a career year. Neifi put up the same line last year with much better defense, actually.
  15. If you think about it, the Cubs probably are planning on dealing Prior once his value goes up not just for the obvious reasons but I don't see them paying Z and Prior 12-15 million each when they hit free agency...and after Wood, I don't see them giving that type of contract to an injury prone player again.
  16. If Neifi was putting up Cedeno's exact same numbers/defense and getting paid the league min., people would be up in arms. Cendeno is not having a good season, even for a rookie of his minor league experience and history.
  17. I wonder if they would go for Maddux, choice of Pierre or Walker, and Williamson for Billingsley deal.
  18. How would a DUI affect his play though? Would he go to jail if he got another? I doubt teams have to pay their players when they are in jail anyway.
  19. There will always be plenty of guys who can hit well but can't find a position.
  20. Here's part of an article that talks about what was said on the radio yesterday: It excludes some of the early stuff he said like he knows his body better than anybody....but it's something. It seems like they are trying to make it look like less of a story than it is. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060601prior,1,410674.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines
  21. You can't assume a player cares or tries to get better? That should be the assumption at all times for all athletes unless it can be proved untrue. Why? Because we call them "professionals"? That's a label we brandish on all of these guys without regard for whether they earn it and/or display the qualities the term implies. We certainly don't assume that in other walks of life, why should we do it for athletes? If you work for me I'm going to assume you care about your job until you show me otherwise. That doesn't mean I will be oblivious to evidence showing the contrary, but if you aren't doing your job I will consider lots of other potential reasons before even considering that you just don't care. And how do your define "until you show me otherwise"? Do you have a list of behaviors that you feel are indicative of someone not caring or not giving their best efforts? Some sort of criteria? Or do you go with your gut and what your exprience tells you? I personally don't think Corey stopped caring; I do think he was suffering from a sort of mild depression at the end due to circumstances he wa s living under. I also think people are entitled to interpret his behavior as they so choose, and blasting people for their perceptions on this issue is silly, because none of us "know" or can "prove" what happened. We are entitled to our opinions. Implying that baseball players have emotions and mental struggles that affect their performace on the field is similar to suggesting clubhouse chemistry can affect the standings. I think that's why a lot of people always immediately shoot down such suggestions. It's easier and more tangible to blame Dusty Baker and his coaching staff for poor perfomance.
  22. Were you as blatantly anti-Wood and anti-Prior back in 2003 as you are now? I'm not really anti-Wood. I'm not a fan of the contract though. I started getting frustrated with them in 2004. After 2005, I realized they probably were never going to recapture their 2003 form, at least not together. I think it's best for the Cubs to move on from them. I was big fans of both and cut them a lot of slack, but after 2005, enough is enough. I'm tired of them attaching season after season to their health and performance only to watch them fail miserably.
  23. Couldn't have put it better myself. Bravo.
