  1. Sosa, hands down. He carried the entire team for about 5 seasons. His 2001 almost defies logic, steroids be damned, because of the crappiness that surrounded him in that lineup. A ton of the pitchers were on the juice, too, and he was just owning them while playing on a terrible offense.
  2. This thread is the gift that keeps on giving. I say that we have to use 1 of these in every game thread start until Soriano's OBP gets to .350. So, for the next 5 seasons, we should see these pictures! Keep it up guys!
  3. So much for him not being able to handle the Wrigley crowd. Maybe the booing and whatnot gets him fired up.
  4. So we're looking at Harden, Zambrano, Lilly, Wells, Hart probably? If that's the case, then Hart would be pitching the 1st game in Philly. Not good. Lou probably has Hart pitch the Sunday game in DC and then has Wells, Harden, Zambrano in Philly. Not bad.
  5. I would go like this: Zambrano Lilly Wells Hart Harden Reason being is that Harden can get some additional rest and Dempster can come back and take Hart's spot. Also, if Lilly pitches in the ASG, he won't start again until Friday, which should be enough rest after pitching probably 1 inning in the game, whereas Thursday may be a bit ambitious.
  6. Fox wasn't terrible back there yesterday. Definitely not a long term solution, but if Soto is only out 2 weeks, why not keep him as the backup and keep Fuld up in the majors? That would be like 2 starts at C for Fox.
  7. Starting with a 4 game sweep over the Cubs this weekend.
  8. There aren't any hotels right near Nationals Stadium. I would recommend staying anywhere in the metro area near a Metro train stop. Nationals Park is off of the Navy Yard stop on the green line. The green line connects to the other lines at a few locations in downtown DC, so you can stay at a hotel near any of the lines. Staying anywhere in the DC area, especially in summer tourist season, is going to be pretty expensive unless you don't mind things along the Motel 6 type and even those will cost what a Hampton Inn would cost in another city.
  9. If he says he doesn't want an extension his value becomes really high. Santana would only agree to a trade if there was an extension in place, Halladay still has one year at $15 mil on his contract. In this market that's pretty reasonable for a pitcher of his quality. There's lots of pitchers making more than that who aren't even close ot the caliber that Roy Halladay is. But if he demands an extension his price is not just going to be the $15 mil next year, but probably $18 mil+ for the next 4-5 years minimum I would assume. That's when you start giviing up one prospect and some toss ins like the Santana deal. otherwise, that speculated Angels offer is probably the kind of level teams would need to go to get him I don't know, man. Halladay has been absolute money for about 5-7 years now. If he played in Chicago or NY, the Hall of Fame bust would already be carved. Legitimately, he should get Rasmus and Wallace from the Cards, at a minimum.
  10. If we don't win the Lilly-Thompson matchup, it stands a decent chance of a sweep for the Cards. F me.
  11. If we're murdering someone, I would think that the $100 million owed to Soriano would be a better motive...
  12. Yeah, the likelihood of him still being effective is low, but a league minimum deal without giving up prospects couldn't hurt. Give him some time in the minors and see if he can work things out a bit. I agree. If something can get done quickly, maybe they can stretch Marshall out to start in Dempster's absence after the break and then when Harden continues to suck or inevitably gets injured again.
  13. Dusty must be down in Daytona "breaking in" all of our young pitchers. "Coming back out after a delay builds character dude!"
  14. That's obvious. The only reason Smith doesnt start in LF is because the dummies in the front office feel they have to at least try and play Carlos Gonzalez, who they got in the Holliday trade. Everyone around here knows what is up and is sick of it. They dont understand why the Rox won't put their best players in the field. Cargo is abysmal. Smith on the other hand, is not. .284/.400/.482, 121 AB's, 6 HR, 6 2B, 2 3B, 20 RBI, 28 walks. thats not bad at all given the limited AB's. You're right. Instead of trying to win, they're trying to prove that they won the Matt Holliday trade.
  15. Seriously? If Seth Smith was good, he'd start for the Rockies, not be a 5th OFer. I don't know anything about the Rockies system, but it would have to be pretty good to get 18 months of Halladay. I think the Brewers would have to give up Gamel, Escobar, AND additional prospects to get in the Halladay discussion. He's worth much more than CC was last year because Halladay has 1.5 seasons and everyone knew CC was going for the big money to the west or east coast after the season.
  16. I think saving your bench guys for better situations than 2 out nobody on and forcing Cox to burn 2 of his bench guys is at least arguably as good as just going ahead and pinch hitting there. Agreed. If Gregg would have blown that game, we would have had a full complement of bench guys to pinch hit, pinch run, double switch, and whatnot. If we were only up by 1 run, then, ya, a solo HR would have made a big difference, but with a 2 run lead, I think Lou actually made a decent non-move.
  17. Actually that wasn't a terrible move. Keeping Wells in forced Cox to play his hand with the pinch hitter, essentially burning Gregor Blanco without him batting. Lou then put in Marshall with a run of lefties coming up and Marshall go the job done. If you're going to complain about that move, complain because of Lou's love of using Marshall as a LOOGY rather than him pulling Wells.
  18. Ty Sir. I have no significant complaints about any of these decisions. Kudos to Cubs brass for this Agreed, this is awesome. Although I would have definitely preferred Shark down and Fuld remaining up, this works as well, especially with the DH on Sunday.
  19. Thanks guys. It would be nice to get 4 solid months of domination from that group. On paper, that's one hell of a lineup. Let's hope they get it together.
  20. Will Aramis bat 4th with Bradley moving to 5 or will Lou just put Aramis in Fox's 5 spot? By the way, if Soriano can start providing anything above Doug Dascenzo numbers and Aramis is even average, this could be one heck of a lineup.
  21. This whole system is terrible. My god. An international draft is a must. I know that all of the money the teams pay to develop these academies and whatnot, but this whole thing being a free for all is just ridiculous.
  22. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-02-cubs-brite-chicago-jul02,0,3892212.story Did anyone catch what that quote is? According to 670 The Score, it was "We paid this guy $30 million and nothing is his fault."
  23. 1. As excited as I"m sure the Pirates would be to get a 25th man, the worst LHRP in the major leagues, and a terrible 30 something middle reliever, I think that prospect would have to be one hell of a player to get Sanchez alone, let alone Sanchez AND Grabow. 2. Wouldn't the Cubs be able to get a bit more for Harden than the Rockies 5th outfielder?
  24. Him and Randy Wells are going to go drink themselves blind during the All Star Break.
  25. Soriano has been worth NEGATIVE value this year. However in 2007, he was worth over $22 million and got paid $10 million. Last year he was essentially break even ($13.8 value for $14 pay). This year? He has been worth $-0.9 million. Hahaha. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=847&position=2B/OF For comparison, Barry Zito has been worth a total of $13.7 the past 2 years while getting paid $24. This year, he's at positive $2.8 million. Obviously it would be a bad trade for the Cubs, but the fact that anyone would even consider it is a sign of how terrible Fonzie has been. If he doesn't get roundly booed on Thursday and Milton does, then it's just hippocracy from the fans.
