  1. I'd rot for the Cardinals plans to crash, but their AAA team would just step in and win the world series. [expletive] them.
  2. What are realistic currently active player comps for these guys' careers? Here's an attempt at that with low end, medium end/likely, and high end comps. Baez: Low: JJ Hardy Medium: Hanley Ramirez High: A-Rod Bryant: Low: Mike Moustakas Medium: David Freese High: David Wright Soler: Low: Jeff Francouer Medium: Jason Heyward High: Carlos Beltran Almora: Low: Denard Span Medium: Coco Crisp High: Adam Jones
  3. They outgained the Saints by over 100 yards. Had only one turnover, had a 200 yard receiver, and had a QB with a 128.1 rating. (Though admittedly QBR tells a different story on Jay.) You stat nerds are cute. Do you live in Ted Cruz' congressional district?
  4. After 5 games it should be #1!!!! So we're barely above average and that's supposed to be exciting to me? Coming from being 28th out of 32 teams, and only 5 games into a new system, yes, that should be very exciting to you. It will continue to go up over time. Yesterday they averaged more yards per play in a game since a game vs. the Lions in September of 1989. I would say that's progress.
  5. Agreed, but isn't this setting up for a heartbreaking loss on a blown save for the Pirates in Game 4 followed by a 13-1 win by the Cards in Game 5?
  6. Yep. He's done a good job as a regular season manager and his players generally back him up. If you're a team like the Mariners or Rockies or Blue Jays, you could do a lot worse. That being said, I hope he proves to be a fraud who just had stacked teams and did nothing with them so I can continue my hatred of him in a more rational way.
  7. Yeah, it's not 'getting boned' when Dusty predictably refused to adjust his lineup for the fact that he was facing a dude who eats lefthanded batters for lunch. Because baseball is meant to be a "best team over a long season or series, not whoever happens to have a great matchup in 1 game" type of sport. Yeah, Dusty is an idiot, but there shouldn't be anything besides a tiebreaker that is 1 game. I love rewarding the division winner, but with so much randomness in baseball, 1 game is just dumb.
  8. Monday: Hold for tiebreaker games, including possibility of DH for both leagues. Tuesday: NL WC2 hosts WC1 Wednesday: NL WC1 hosts WC2 in DH, AL WC2 hosts WC1 Thursday: NL: rain/travel day, AL WC1 hosts WC2 (DH) Friday: NL: both division series start, AL rain/travel day Saturday: NL: both division series continue, both AL division series start Sunday: NL: rain/travel day, AL: both division series continue (ideally prime time to avoid as much NFL conflict) So on and so forth adding a whole 1 or 2 days to the entire process and eliminating the "Reds get boned facing Liriano" situation. 1 game is far too random in baseball (really any sport, but especially baseball and hockey). The big wrench in the whole plan is rain. If that DH gets rained out multiple times, it's mayhem.
  9. Could you imagine a Wings-Hawks Cup Finals? It would be so bad ass, though after a few years of not playing as much might make it even cooler, say 3 years from now.
  10. A repeat Cup is extremely hard and I've already outlined the reasons I'm worried about a Cup hangover in the offseason thread, but I am not sure how a successful year for the defending champs with a fairly intact roster and a mostly young core could only be a conference finals appearance. A successful year for this team is a Stanley Cup championship. I'm trying to be realistic. Winning a cup takes a combination of a lot of factors, including a healthy dose of luck. The Detroit series is a great example of that. A funny bounce here or there makes all the difference. And yes that stuff can balance out and you can make your own luck, but the best team doesn't always win. Given that, I think it's hard to ever be too upset when your team makes the final four. Especially since they just won it. Agreed. Even if they get a 3 or 4 seed and get bounced in the 2nd round, it doesn't mean it's not a successful season after just playing 72 pressure packed games in about 5 months and only having 2 months off. That being said, they should at least make the conference finals and, frankly, anything short of a Cup will be a disappointment to some degree since they kept the majority of the roster intact.
  11. I think thats the only way 7 teams would make sense. I like that, the less byes the better IMO Agreed. This makes the #1 seed actually meaningful. I'm all for it. I just really hope they never go to 16 teams.
  12. Bears 31, Saints 27 Reggie Bush was the difference between the Lions and Saints offenses if you think that Graham=Megatron in their relative ability. Unless they turn it over a ton, Bears will win.
  13. I'm still intrigued with Dave Martinez, although his hiring would beg the question of why he wasn't even interviewed 2 years ago. It would just be trolling Ryno if they hired Martinez. So awesome.
  14. If they are firing Sveum and not committing anything extra to the payroll, I don't care if they bring Casey Stengel back from the dead, they aren't going to be successful. When the worst part about your manager is that his bullpen management sucks, it's probably time to start blaming the front office and ownership.
  15. Jayson Stark with an answer. And the answer is yes. http://espn.go.com/mlb/blog/_/name/stark_jayson/id/9688414/atlanta-braves-edition-september-history-watch
  16. Yep. Also, I wonder who the dbag writer will be to not vote for Maddux "because no one else has ever gotten 100% of the vote".
  17. Surprise: Baez just beasting everywhere Disappointment: Vitters and Jackson not even being able to get meaningless September at-bats. Also, Paniagua Irrational Love For: Sczuzr. I have to think he can be a semi-valuable minimum salary 5th outfielder on a decent team.
  18. And that the gap between B1G and all BCS level conferences and lower level mid majors (EMU, UCF) is big and that the B1G itself is overall weak. That schedule sucks.
  19. :old_givebeer: Yes and yes!!!!
  20. Vogelbach with three more hits. beast mode
  21. I thought the White Sox minor league system was garbage? Or are these guys just old for their league and/or relying on crafty/gritty, non-translatable skill to have a good team?
  22. It already is a lost season of construction. Has been for a while. Why? Do you have proof of that? They could at least get up the RF sign, the jumbotron, and start the work on the hotel or office building if it's signed off on. Everything that has been said for the past month or two indicates that it would take a minor miracle for it to start this year. That's Theo over two weeks ago. It doesn't appear that things have gotten any better since, either. Oh, F this.

  24. I thought everything was agreed upon, or at least the major stuff and Tunney is just bitching to bitch. Is that not the case? Nope. In the article, it says they will not spend any money until they are guaranteed of no lawsuit by the rooftops. This right field party deck/bridge over Sheffield in order to move the sign back is the sticking point.
