  1. I'm disappointed, I thought this could have been the first transaction in which the guy could have been traded for something he ate 10 minutes earlier, thus voiding the trade.
  2. Even if they don't have baseball, the Cubs and Sox would likely be out of town for 2 or 3 weeks anyway. The Braves still had Fulton County Stadium in 1996, but went on a long road trip to avoid the Olympics.
  3. ...all in 1 article. Good times. MLB trying to get baseball back into the Olympics for 2016 (hopefully at Wrigley!) Trying to work out the kinks with replay. And they are looking into the blackout thing and look like they are only going to black out teams from Extra Innings if they are being broadcast locally. Hooray! Also, Peter MacGowan off the Executive Council after 16 years of service, probably finally got sick of watching a bad team and making bad personnel decisions. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080813&content_id=3304739&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  4. Bring earplugs for all of the annoying Yankee fans, plan on paying about $9 for a beer, and unfortunately be ready to be disappointed by everything except Monument Park. Yankee Stadium underwent a major renovation in the 1970s and, therefore, resembles a 1970s stadium for the most part. Its crappy like parts of Wrigley, but not historically crappy and, therefore, isn't nearly as cool as Wrigley or Fenway.
  5. Cards lose, Fish had to use their bullpen 4 innings due to long rain delay. Not a bad outcome.
  6. This. And if you look at the Kosuke projections, we are probably going to end up getting what we expected. "They are who we thought they were" Dennis Green style. IIRC, the expected line was .270/15HR/70 RBI and about a .370 OBP with good defense in RF. That's pretty much what we're getting. A bit low on the SLG, but his first month or two have really skewed everyone's opinion of him.
  7. This is correct. Saturday/Sunday/Monday nights at Wrigley...or at whatever NL team luckily wins the NLCS if its not the Cubs.
  8. I would agree if there was no wild card. The Rangers get to play the putrid A's and Mariners while the Red Sox have to play the Yankees and the not so putrid Blue Jays and Orioles more. If the Rangers somehow luck into the wild card, you can bet the Yank-mes and Red Sox will complain to high heaven about this.
  9. The interchanging of Fukudome and Edmonds and Derosa and Soto is baffling. Maybe Lou just feels the need to tinker, but you'd think Derosa would stay hitting 6th with the way he's been hitting the ball lately and driving in the middle of the order. Maybe Lou is thinking DeRosa is "in the zone" right now and might be able to better distinguish the strikezone right now than Soto and might take some walks in front of Lilly (for sac bunts) and Soriano (for 800 foot homers) and figures Soto might see some better pitches with Edmonds and DeRosa behind him. Could be a stretch, but in some ways it makes sense.
  10. Didn't they win like 10 games last year? My sleeper is the Rams in that putrid division. I think Stephen Jackson is in a contract year.
  11. Anyone else pretty satisfied with our middle infielders all around this year? Theriot has obviously given us more than we expected, Cedeno has been solid as a backup 2B/SS and is now looking OK as a pinch hitter. DeRosa is very valuable all around and Fontenot has been very good lately. If this keeps up,we could let DeRo go after his contract is up after 2009 and lose a solid player, but gain a roster spot of flexibility for a more traditional backup corner OF while not losing a ton at 2B and saving a decent amount on payroll (although I think that will be Theriot's first arby year). Keep it up Mike and Ronny!
  12. Worked again. Now how about winning the next 8, too. We would have a minimum 5 game lead over the Brewers and the Cards would essentially be finished (unless they somehow won all 8 as well)
  13. He's pitched 3 games in the NL. You're not serious with that question, are you? Its not completely out of the realm. Sutcliffe won it by going 16-1 after he was traded from Cleveland. If Sabathia goes like 13-2 with a 1.50 ERA and the Brewers make the playoffs, the voters could give it to him. While Sheets, Z, Lincecum, Dempster, etc have been very good, they haven't been completely dominant.
  14. Who is better at rundowns, Cobs or Little League teams?
  15. Good thing Cy Davis is back after his bout with cancer. Congratulations on the award, Doug.
  16. And he'll be counting his millions and watching highlight reels of his likely 400-500+ HRs and crafting his hall of fame speech while you are playing dungeons and dragons in your mom's basement.
  17. Nope. Correct. they have been asking for veteran, MLB level talent Marshall, Marmol, DLee (if he'd waive his NTC), Marquis, Ascanio, and Hill for Fuentes, Holliday, and Helton's awful contract. Rockies get a lot of pitching, although Marshall and Hill could suck in Coors because of the breaking ball thing (if that still exists post humidor) as well as a pretty good player in Lee, a setup man/closer under control for 4 more years, another bullpen arm in Ascanio while getting rid of a bad contract in Helton, a FA to be in Fuentes, and a superstar in Holliday. Cubs really thin out their pitching depth, but what the heck, if those top 4 guys are healthy, you are still OK and the bullpen is only slightly weaker if Fuentes pitches well. Gives you a roster of: Soriano LF Fukudome CF (deal with it pal, if you're not hitting, at least play a premium defensive position) Holliday RF Ramirez 3B Helton 1B Soto C DeRosa 2B Theriot SS Zambrano, Harden, Dempster, Lilly, Gaudin/Lieber Gaudin/Lieber, Wuertz, Cotts, Howry, Eyre, Fuentes, Wood
  18. Why not, he certainly did his fair share of that last night :D
  19. Please don't put any numbers in this game thread except for the Cobs the last 7 days. Even if Ramirez is 16-16 with 15 HRs against this guy, it doesn't matter. We suck right now and its just going to be a matter of luck when we get out of this. Hopefully when we do, we never go back into it...until next spring training after 4 months of everyone drinking champagne after winning the WS. Go Cubs!!!
  20. Last time I did this, they went on a nice winning streak, so let's give it another go.
  21. Fonzie, your table is ready. Game over.
  22. Because God hates us and enjoys seeing us suffer. Winner. Get your Cardinals vs. Brewers NLCS tickets now. Followed by the winner starting the World Series on the South Side. Please set me on fire now.
  23. But boo can't hit to save his life Fukudome.
