  1. Good God, this better become true...
  2. Guess you can say he was a pleasant surprise :) I don't know about that. He still has had problems allowing rookies to adjust to the bigs... Pie had almost no chance at all, and Fukudome getting benched with the lead we have in the division was just plain stupid. And there's no doubting that he's made plenty of stupid in-game moves... and they seem to come more often in games he deems critical, which makes me nervous about seeing Soto trying to bunt again during the playoffs. He's been better than I expected, but he hasn't been fantastic. +1. He's been good, but let's remember that Dusty got us to within 5 outs of a WS and we all knew he sucked. I really wanted Girardi, but then again, I didn't expect them to sign Soriano, Lilly, Marquis, etc...and then follow that up with Fukudome, Harden trade, etc. I still think Soto should have been called up last year a few months earlier and Pie should have gotten more of a chance, but that is just as much JHs call as it is Lou's (see Kendall, Jason and Edmonds, Jim--who were both pretty good).
  3. When you guys receive your tickets via FedEx, please let us know thanks. BTW, I need to know because when I receive mine, they are sent to a friend's parent's house and they sometimes don't let us know for a day or two. Thanks.
  4. Gone. Please no more messages. Mods, feel free to lock thread. Thanks.
  5. 2 Free tickets for today's game in section 525. I live 5 blocks north of Wrigley (near the Irving Park lot) and you can pick them up at my house. No, I won't meet you anywhere, but the tickets are free. PM Me if interested.
  6. One side kept it off the field (i.e. coaches, not players), the other chose to target the opposing SP. I think that's weak. What's weak is letting something like this bother you. That and beating your wife. Conclusion: Brett Myers is weak.
  7. Not once in 7 pitches?!?! He's headed to the DL. Not saying he's hurt or anything, just that last Sunday was special and we shouldn't expect him to shut anyone down. That was really his only great start in a while. I hope it continues and he'll be fine, but let's not pretend he morphed into mr. unhittable for good.
  8. FYI, Zambrano hasn't hit more than 92 on the gun. Let's hope he didn't use all of his bullets Sunday.
  9. After giving up a one-out, two-run single to Tejada in the 5th, he retired the next two batters before leaving the game with elbow soreness. Alright, thank you very much. 29 outs without a hit, or... 9 2/3 Hit less innings... anyone know the record? Johnny Van Der Meer pitched back to back no hitters, so its at least 54 outs and probably at least 55 because I doubt he got taken out in the middle of an inning the start before his first no no.
  10. It would be nice to at least get to 97...but I'd settle for 93 if it meant 11 more coming in the postseason.
  11. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/chi-schmich-19-sep19,0,750979.column This Jared Burton guy is a clown. If the Cubs were really a big deal to you, you wouldn't make plans for October in a year that the Cubs were obviously going to at least have a good chance of making the playoffs. Missing for work is at least understandable, but going to the Smoky Mountains because your girlfriend won't let you reschedule? Lame.
  12. 1. Albert Pujols 2. Ryan Howard 3. David Wright 4. Aramis Ramirez 5. Carlos Delgado 6. Manny Ramirez 7. Chase Utley 8. CC Sabathia 9. Geovany Soto 10. Lance Berkman
  13. I voted yes, but only if you do the requisite cutting to make it a 1/2 shirt.
  14. 11 In the post game interview, after winning the world series with a walk-off HR, he'll guarantee to hit a walk-off HR on opening day 2009. The reporter (Erin Andrews) beings to laugh...then remembers who she's talking to....and solemnly moves her head "down south" on Geo. Fixed. Soto rules.
  15. I heart Pat and Ron. I heard Soto's drive right after I got in my car thinking it was over. To paraphrase Clark W. Griswold, "I wouldn't have been more surprised if I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet."
  16. Silly me, I thought this thread was about Bob Howry.
  17. If Fukudome hits a walk off, Doug Melvin might blow his brains out.
  18. Good thing Edmonds and Ramirez showed up or this would have been a complete embarassment.
  19. whatwhatwhat? Over the WC? Well, yeah, but I just miscounted. BTW, Fukudome is probably the worst hitting position player on the roster right now outside of Koyie Hill. I can't believe it.
  20. or a 4 pitch inning Yes. That's what I meant. My bad. This is starting to get pretty damn ugly. If Hurricane Ike didn't gift wrap 2 wins for us, we could be in trouble. winner for most ridiculous game thread post of the day? You're right, if those 3 games were in Houston with no Hurricane, we would have won at least 2 :banghead: The lead is going to be 6 after today and if we would have lost 2/3 in Houston, it would have been, what, 4.5 with 10 to play, including the last 7 on the road vs. playoff teams. But, you're right, a ridiculous comment.

  22. OK, I'll say it. Fukuslam coming off Gagne later this inning.
  23. Is Ned Yost back managing the Crew? You've got a pitcher over 50 pitches through 2 that is pretty much on a 100 pitch limit and you swing at the first 2 pitches of the inning. Brutal.
  24. Thank God, McGowan is probably my least favorite Bear. He has been garbage since he has gotten here. Remember that Steve Smith playoff game? Well, that was Brandon McGowan chasing him around on a few of those long plays. That was his rookie season and he's sucked since. Makes a ton of penalties on special teams and generally sucks as a DB. To think they traded Chris Harris because they were confident in Adam Archuleta and Brandon McGowan is ridiculous. Terrible decisions by Lovie and Jerry. Your blind hatred for McGowan has clouded your memory. Brandon McGowan did not play in that playoff game. And I only remember 2 or 3 long plays to Steve Smith. One was when Tillman fell down and Mike Brown was giving chase. Another was Chris Thompson getting molested and Mike Green giving chase. There may have been 1 more big play, but I don't recall it. I do recall McGowan NOT playing though. The Bears safeties that day were Mike Brown, Mike Green, Todd Johnson, and Chris Harris. McGowan only played in 05 at the end of the season because Mike Brown was hurt. Ah, thanks. Chris Thompson must have been the person I replaced in my memory with McGowan. Regardless, he sucks.

Terrible decisions by Lovie and Jerry. McGowan was very good on ST though. IIRC, he has had a few ST penalties and I'm really getting sick of having good returns called back. He has had numerous penalties on ST, including 2 last week. The guy is garbage. Besides, unless it is Ayanbadejo, it is very difficult to see if a guy is good on ST unless he makes a ton of tackles. You must really watch the games in depth...
