  1. Is Darwin Barney going to be good enough to have a Ryan Theriot-like career?
  2. If we're lucky Ain't that the truth. Hopefully they can be bad enough that: A) Wainwright is fired and B) Dar Tucker decides to stay another year. He is outstanding.
  3. DePaul hosts Albany on campus tonight at McGrath Arena. I'll be hammered before and after the game at McGee's. I'll have to be to watch this garbage. They'll beat Albany, but should finish around .500 again this year.
  4. "Dude, he's black, he just needs to run in warmer weather"--Dusty Baker.
  5. The more I think about it, the more angry I am. Not that they are letting him go given their situation, but the fact that we are in this financial situation in the first place. Hendry/ownership picked NOW to be cheap, after they have: Signed Soriano to one of the worst contracts in sports Payed 4/$48 for a defensive replacement outfielder Overpayed for Jason Marquis Signed Zambrano to a bit more than he deserved Not to mention all of the minor deals that were bad in the past (Blanco last year, 3 years to Howry/Eyre, etc...). Granted, those have no bearing on next year, but still. If we didn't have $10 million committed to Marquis next year and giant raises to Soriano coming, maybe we could have fit Woody in at 3/$30 million, but, no, we get to watch Marquis do the same as Sean Marshall, Soriano underachieve, and Kosuke corkscrew himself into the ground. Will the Cubs be a good team next year? Ya, but it would have been a little bit nicer if Kerry Wood was involved. Long after those 3 clowns are gone, Woody will still give the Cubs fans fond memories. Note: The above is void if Marquis, Fukudome, or Soriano directly lead to a World Series championship.
  6. Do we offer Howry arbitration now just to be greedy with the draft picks? Even if he accepts, what will he cost? Around $4 mill. Worth the risk of getting 2 more 1st rounders.
  7. Any chance Gregg is a Type A after next season if he performs decently? Not that I have any faith in our drafting crew, but 2 1st round picks and a year of Gregg for Todd Walker (via Ceda) would be a good return. He could be, yes. Well, hopefully he has a great year setting up Marmol AND Wood and then gets a huge contract elsewhere next year, netting us 2 1st rounders. :D

  9. This is the only thing I can think of. But, still, bad. I was excited when I figured we gave up a guy like Ascanio. Now I'm bitter.
  10. Sweet, now bring back Woody and let Samardzija start in AAA, ready to replace Marquis in the rotation in 2010 after we trade Marshall in the package for Peavy.
  11. The recruiting expert at KU's Scout site thinks Mizzou will be decent this year, a tourney team. Just another Bracketology snafu. Teams in the same conference can't play each other in the first round. What a clown.
  12. Unfortunately, some other 1940s-1960s player is going down. The rule of 3...
  13. I have no idea the source. That would essentially be highway robbery. Hendry would look around the room thinking he was on Totally Hidden Video or something if that got the job done.
  14. Getting rid of him was a dumb move. It probably didn't cost us any games because of the overall terrible performance in the playoffs, but Lou needs to let guys out of his doghouse occasionally. That being said, I don't think Scottie has a whole lot left in the tank and I'd be surprised if he repeats his stellar performance next season with the Phillies.
  15. Well, that was a bad throw preceded by a terrible decision to force that one into double coverage. Good Rex and Bad Rex both making an appearance in the first quarter. Ugh.
  16. Not sure what you are watching or were expecting but he looks ok so far. Seriously? He's 5/7 and 3 of those receptions were because of the receiver. How about that ball he threw 15 yards away from anyone and 5 yards out of bounds? what? he's been pretty good. 5/7 is supposed to be bad? When 60% of his 5 completions were great catches by the receiver, yea. As I said... LUCKILY his RECEIVERS are picking him up. Let's move along and be happy the Bears scored the first 1st Quarter TD against the Titans this year. I didn't know that meatball Chicago sports fans who hold a grudge against a guy even after he does something good have made their way to Finland. Good to know.
  17. accuweather is calling for a high of 42 and no snow. Possible snow saturday night. I hope the field is in better shape this week. Horrible conditions do not play to the Bears strengths. Ya, "Bear Weather" is a giant myth...especially when playing the Titans who play like the Bears of the 1980s with great running game and defense and average to below average passing game. The better the field conditions are, the better chance that Grossman hits a few deep balls, which is pretty much the only chance the Bears win unless the defense channels the early 2006 defense.
  18. Apparently he hits from the wrong side of the plate...
  19. Going after some big fish there, eh? Taking a coach from Oregon money, UNC, and Texas Tech, who could win a NC this year is very ambitious. I know UT is a very strong program, but there's going to have to be a lot of money behind a hire like 1 of those 3 guys.
  20. He would be nearly half of the Rays payroll. They'd have to pick up a TON of his salary to get a guy like Davis or Hellickson. Do you think the Rays would give the Tigers a lower tier prospect and take on all/most of Maggs' contract? I know he would be 1/3rd their payroll or whatever, but they should have a lot more attendance next year and all of this year's playoff revenue to spend. Let's be honest, if they don't start spending money, it's going to eventually become a sad situation there. They won't be getting high picks anymore because of their good record and if they don't spend any money, they're going to have a 5 year window of being good if they don't resign all of their guys (like they did with Longoria) and then back to the crapper.
  21. Anyone get the feeling that Maggs is destined for Tampa Bay? They need a power hitting RF and have a ton of young pitching that the Tigers NEED. I don't know how Maggs' knee would hold up at the Trop, but he could also DH if they resign Baldelli. The Rays could then have an OF of Crawford, Upton, and Baldelli/Hinske with Maggs upgrading their DH slot from the Cliff Floyd/Ben Zobrist mix. Would a guy like Jeremy Hellickson get the job done OR would they have to give up a guy like Wade Davis (if the Tigers paid some of the salary)?
  22. You do know that Chalmers played against the Knicks, right?
