    Week 3

I am having quite a week. I think I would have the leading point total without the no-hitter. I wish I could save a few of these points for later....hmmmm..I will enjoy it while it lasts. :D
  3. doubtful. They still produce far too few baserunners and make tons of silly mistakes, walk too many batters, and generally don't look too good. I do like Hill a lot though despite the above post. I would disagree. I think if the Cubs realize that Theriot and Derosa is the best 2b/SS combo, Zambrano gets on track, and we get any production from Prior/Wood, then we will be pretty good. Perfect, no..., but can we win our division, definitely yes.
  4. Amazing how much better a team looks when it gets quality starting pitching. If Zambrano can get his act together, the Cubs could have a good team.

Seems like a stupid question, since the Angels placed him on the DL, I should be able to do so now.

No-hitter for Buehrle!!!!!!!!!.....Awesome..... :D Kendrick on the DL for a broken hand :x Juan, when can I place him on the DL. When the Angels have put him on the DL, or when CBS lists him as on the DL?

I find myself thinking that I wished that I hadn't mentioned rotating pitchers. This is a friendly league. Yes, sometimes the rules are a bit vague, but we try to keep things fair. It would not be the end of the world to me if we did not allow rotating pitchers. I just thought that that was the new rule.

If you are disappointed with Harden, I'll take him off your hands. I may be in a rebuilding year Hey, you are a Cubs fan. Every year is a rebuilding year.

i'm not stockpiling arms b/c, for one, more than likely you'll still get at least six starts each week...that's just how it will often fall. secondly, with how much a bad start costs you, i'm not going to throw scott downs out there just for the sake of adding a start. True. Contreras burned me in week one. That is why I am going with only 6 starts this week. I didn't want to risk Contreras vs Cleveland again and Garcia was just coming off the DL. (Garcia's game was canceled anyways). BTW - Apparently I lost in week one to a team that wasn't rotating in starters.

1st - We all know who's fault it is that we are having this controversy over starters - Juan - He should of made sure that we all were very aware of the rule changes before the season started. So I suggest that we get together tonight, go over to Juan's house, and tar and feather him. Either that or give him a really big wedgie. O:) 2nd - I think that our bench has been underutilized over the past few seasons. I tend to lean towards supporting being able to rotate any player from the bench during the week for any reason. Thus you could have extra pitchers and try to pick the best seven starts, or extra hitters, to try to maximize plate appearances, or rookies who have too many plate/mound appearances to stash in the minors, but who are too promising to give up on. The only way you can pick up a FA though, would be because of an injury, and the player must be on the DL, officially. That being said, we have already started the season.... 3rd - I was wondering why more managers weren't stockpiling arms for their bench...Now I know why.
  14. More on Holdzkom. From Ask BA
  15. From BA Most of this has already been posted on this site. BA has tended to be inaccurate, but they have revamped this section, so maybe it will improve. I am a little surprised with Ciarmella. With his stats from last year I do not fault the Cubs, but I had higher hopes for him.

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. Example A: I have 5 starters. My 5 starters are each pitching once next week. My opponent has 7 starters. Each one is pitching once next week. He's allowed to switch out his pitchers to get 7 starts, but I can't switch anyone out because I don't have anyone to switch out to get extra starts. My opponent can switch out his reserves agaisnt me because he has extra pitchers, but I can't switch out my reserves because they are all offensive players. That's a silly rule. How about a vote? But I asked Juan for clarification of the rule before the draft. Knew that I would want a couple of pitchers on my bench to make certain that I would have 7 starts per week and drafted accordingly.
  17. I will say that I like the seven start limit so far.

If we are not allowed to maximize our starts by bringing someone off the bench (which appears to be the case), then Cook's points should not count for me tonight. I did a switch last week too, but it cost me points and I lost the game, so I don't think anyone will complain.

I would disagree. While I could live with either option, being able to switch pitchers allows everyone to have 7 starts despite scheduling quirks. The whole point of the rule change was that you could go into a week being down 5 starts to 10 and you knew you would lose. It really didn't matter if your team was playing better. I do agree that we need clarification and to make the decision now. that doesn't necessarily allow everyone to have seven starts. some people only carry five or six pitchers. No, but it would narrow the gap.

I'd say, like my experience with Hanley this week... He was out for 4 days or so with a bad hammy. I reserved him, he played yesterday. Having seen that, I've put him back in the lineup for today, and benched his replacement. That sounds right. I don't have any problems with that. But the player needs to be reserved and the replacement should come off your bench.

From the Rule Changes thread. If we decide to not allow changes to starting pitching from now on fine, but...
  23. I think that we will need to revisit pitching scoring this off season. Last night Vazquez threw 5.1 innings, gave up 2 earned runs, and earned a win. Fuentes pitched 1 inning and earned a save. Vazquez earned around 12 points Fuentes earned 8. To my mind that does not sound right. Thoughts?

I agree. We will continue with changes only on Sunday unless there is an injury. so can we make pitching changes mid-week in an effort to get seven starts? no. This is not what you told me earlier. On several occassions you said that we could not change position players, but that we could bring starters from the bench in order to have our seven starts. So, that is what I have been doing. I drafted my team based upon that knowledge.

I am starting to get some pitching too. But ever since I started going on about my killer offense, well it hasn't been killer. I should learn not to trash talk, but heck that is half the fun of this league. Too bad I didn't keep Duke last year...not.
