If he can play center, the Tigers may be interested in him now that Granderson is on the DL.

He was probably the fastest player in the system (although I think Pie beat him in a foot race), so the guy was a good athlete and had some potential in CF. Wow. I guess, he just couldn't hit. I kind of lost track of him but I was looking forward to him progressing through the system. Oh well. I had the pleasure of seeing Chris play for Boise for a couple of seasons. Best centerfielder I have ever seen at that level. But his bat...I was surprised that he did as well as he did at AA.

What's the feeling around Roadkill. Is Beckett really hurt, or they just don't want to have him pitch in Japan??

I am so glad that I let Lackey slide and picked up Zambrano with my 1st round pick. Especially after today. Zambrano looks good. I hope he continues to look this good once the season starts. I would also like to point out that Beckett and Zambrano is not a shabby 1-2 punch.

Ah, so the rule is retroactive...Maybin, Koshansky, Wood, Blackburn, and Buchholtz have not used an exemption then.

I haven't heard any rumors or anything, but would he work for our team? He came up as a SS, but was moved to third because of Drew. I notice that he spent some time at 2B last year. If Tracy reurns to form, Mark could be available. What would it take to get him and would it be worthwhile?

I like my team, but I have some ifs With Beckett and Zambrano, I have the best 1-2 punch I have ever had. Westbrooke, Arroyo, and Zito round off my starters. I have Buchholtz, Jurrjens, and Slowey in the wings. I will miss Krod, but hopefully Isringhausen and Codero get it done. Beltran, Dunn, and Griffey make for a nice outfield. But i worry about injuries. Maybin waits in the wings. An infield of Zimmerman, Tejada, Kendrick, Votto, and Mauer could be nice. Kendrick and Votto are the keys. I like their long term potential, but will they star this year or next? I need an injury free season from Mauer. Reynolds will DH, with Lind or Overbay as my bench. So I think my team is good enough to make the play-offs. But to do better, I need my youngsters to come through. Maybin, Votto, Kendrick, Bucholtz, etc...

He was worth that. I find myself very much at odds with the philosophy that we should be concerned with winning at all costs. Some of us take our kids to see these games. That is the large part of the appeal to baseball. It is something that you can share with your son or daughter. While it is wrong of us to expect these players to be more than human, I would like them to set examples of fair play and good behavior. What those standards of behavior are will probably never be entirely clear, but they should exist. Hitler would be worth the price of winning??? That is just plain wrong. As far as the Bonds thing, if they hadn't won in , say, 25 years, I'd agree with you, build it up and do it right. But we're talking 100 years here. My grandma was a Cubs fan, she died last fall at 96 years old and wasn't alive when they last won the WS. I don't want to go my lifetime without seeing the Cubs lift that trophy. If it could be worked out, I'd say do it. Unfortunately Hendry won't even consider it. That's a shame. As for Hitler, it was a joke to prove a point. ...and what a joke. I am sure that your grandmother, or mother, who still wears the numbers tattooed into her arm from her days in the concentration camp had a big laugh over it. But given that your sense of humor is different than mine, I disagree with the whole winning at any cost theory. I do not buy into the fact that nice guys always finish last. That the reason for the Cubs not winning a World series is that they have been too nice. I think it has more to do with poor leadership. The Cubs can be a winning team can still be loveable. I do not buy into the theory that says you can ignore a players charactor as long as they have talent. The Portland Trailblazers tried that for several years. Signing players whom other teams would not due to charactor concerns. What they ended up with was a bunch of players who were continually in problems with the law and a seriously eroding fan base. (Look daddy my favorite player is in court facing drug charges again daddy. I want to be just like him). They have now seen the light. I also think Tampa Bay was right to unload Young and Dukes. So I do agree that we cannot expect players to be more than human. Everyone has issues. Just because someone can throw a ball 100 mph or hit it 500 feet does not mean that they should be a role model for the nation's kids. But there are limits.

Compare to the 2007 Boise rotation: Huseby (19) - 3.39 ERA, 8.28 H/9, 0.95 HR/9, 4.21 BB/9, 7.19 K/9 Sasser (21) - 4.59 ERA, 8.91 H/9, 0.56 HR/9, 3.34 BB/9, 7.10 K/9 Ashwood (21) - 3.28 ERA, 9.05 H/9, 0.31 HR/9, 3.28 BB/9, 7.65 K/9 Cabrera (18) - 5.40 ERA, 9.62 H/9, 0.94 HR/9, 4.23 BB/9, 7.75 K/9 Hempy (23) - 4.70 ERA, 7.92 H/9, 1.17 HR/9, 3.23 BB/9, 9.68 K/9 Ouch. 2001 was a great year to watch Boise. A few years later Boise had a losing record (little offense and no pen), but Hill, Marshall, and Cherry were starting. I don't think anyone else from that season made the show.

I blame it on the use of steriods. 8-)

The first was a DP: Maybe the second time the guy wandered too far away from first base? Tyler has a good arm. Obviously the opposition in this league hasn'tseen it yet.

I would shy away from Schilling. I think we would have to pay a premium for what he once was rather than a fair price for what he is. We have more pressing needs.

I have seen Clevenger. He is not immobile. He will never be a base stealing threat and after catching for a few seasons his mobility will probably decline, but for now he has average speed. But Reed is fast. If Reed ever makes it to the show, it if be because of his small ball skills.

Still won't be as good as Bucholz or Slowey for that matter:)

He looked pretty good for Boise the year before too.

That is about my bowling ability too, ........the breaking 200 bit.
