It's raining here in Oregon. I know...that's hard to believe. -
He continues to play good defense at third. He gets to everything, he has a strong accurate arm, and has demonstrated quick reflexes in catching a few screaming liners hit his way. He may outgrow the position at some point, but for now he looks good at third. He hasn't done much offensively the last two games, but he is not overmatched at the plate.

Quakers in first! Not bad. I think this is the latest in the season I have managed this feat. I have made the play-offs, once, but went down in flames to the Lynx.

Thanks for the reports, and it was all good stuff. But those two sentences do not go together :) True. It should be noted that I was peeking over a scout's shoulder to see the radar readings. So I did not get every pitch. But my impression of Hayden is that control is the name of his game. When he looked good his pitches were in the right location and the hitters were off balance. When he gave up a hit he reared back and attempted to blow it by the hitters and he got in trouble.

Game 3 - Quick Observations 1) Scott looked good. Tall and Lanky. Fastball topping out around 92. Good control. Good mound presence. When SK did get runners on, he wouldn't panic. He just shut them down. Ranking (after 1 game each) Arias, Scott, Pugeliese. 2) Simpson looked good (for two innings). Topping out around 86. At the beginning of his third inning I was laughing to myself thinking about some of the posters on this site would react to a positive report. But then he gave up a single and instead of shutting them down, he proceeded to get wild. 3) I am beginning to like Shoulders. Ripped a first ball fast ball for a double. He does put a hurt on the ball when he hits it. But he does strike out on slow breaking stuff. Good defense at first too. It will be interesting to see how he progresses at the plate. Will he be able to adjust and hit the breaking balls or will it be a hole in his game that will be exploited as he advances. He is a big boy. He will need to be at first or be the designated hitter. 4) Good defense by Boise. Amaya made a couple of real nice plays at second. I wonder what is going to happen when Bruno arrives? 5) Dunston had a couple of solid singles.

Game 2 - quick observations. I was sitting behind some scouts so I had the opportunity to see some radar gun readings. Pugeleise - Topping out around 92, off-speed (curve balls) were upper 70's. He looked good the first few innings. But in the fourth he started to lose his release point and was leaving everything up. The pitching coach came out and said a few words that seemed to straighten him out. The potential is there. He is young. Arias made it look easy. Pugeliese looked like he was working. Paulino - Topping out around 93. Control was off. Needs to work on his secondary pitches. Not the best of nights. Shoulders - massive shot to right. I like this guy. He did strike out a couple of times. My impression is that he can hit any fastball. Sometimes looks bad against breaking pitches. Contreras - Opposite field, wind aided, homerun. Amaya - Tripled to left center. The Boise team is very young. The average age must be at least a year younger than the Salem-Keizer team.

Like someone who had played there before. His arm is strong enough. Accurate. But (and I am not an expert) he seemed to need to work on his footwork. He was blocking, rather than catching pitches. Hard to explain, but some people make it look so easy, not Wilson. But considering he just made the change, ... we need to see how he looks by the end of the season. ...Does anyone know if he ever caught before?

Well, here are some brief observations. 1) I liked Jose Arias. Good control and velocity. Fastball/slider. I like his mound presence. Confident and intelligent. He left after 5. He probably was on a pitch count. SK never really threatened him. 2) Dunston looked good in center. He acts like he knows the game. Probably due to growing up surrounded by it. He was in the right position to back up plays. He knew how to work a count (two walks). Good speed, but not great. He has a definite routine at the plate. 3) Candelario looked very good at 3B. Good arm, range, and instincts. He is young, so he may outgrow the position, but for now he is good. Ripped a nice double to right-center. 4) Hernandez has work to do defensively at SS. He has the tendency of lifting his glove up too soon. His three errors cost Boise the game. Two went right between his legs into the outfield. Funny thing is, besides those three errors, he looked good at short. 5) Amaya looked good at second too. Good range, arm, instincts. 6) Shoulders had a nice left handed swing. Looked good at first, but with his his size, I question his range. He had troubles with a sky-high pop up. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Just bought the tickets for the series. I will be in section 107. Are any other NSBB followers going to be in attendance? Too bad about Vogelbach. Maybe I will see him when Boise is in Eugene later on this year. I saw Burke pitch for Boise last year. I just heard on WGN he had a good outing in Peoria.

Well it sounds like this year could be a different experience. In the past, the vast majority of the prospects were pitchers. But I imagine the balance could shift to pitching again once the current draftees begin to sign.

OK, I will admit it. I haven't been keeping up with the minors like I used to. But, I will be attending Boise's opening series in Salem starting next Friday. What should I be looking out for?

I would agree. The 3 man DL is at times a problem, but I think we want it to be that way. A manager should be forced to make difficult choices every once in a while. But that being said, I do not think this is a life or death issue.

Sigh... :( How many years ago was I 30-something? If you guys are willing to wait a few years until I go into retirement, then I may have time to run the league. :wink: I tend to think its the economy and/or the fact that the Cubs are miserable this year. But yes, this a $10 fanatasy league amongst friends. Life is too short. Have fun.

my understanding has always been that we can add and drop prospects throughout the year without any restrictions, so long as they were available to be drafted in the prospect draft (i.e., they're not a june 2012 draftee or an international free agent who signed since the prospect draft). i'm not sure i understand why you'd want to pick up a guy who's currently in single-A and place him in the majors right now, though. I would drop a current minor leaguer and replace him with a better prospect. Your understanding matches mine. My point is that our rules need to reflect our understanding.

C. Once selected, prospects remain with your team until they are moved to the major league roster, traded, or released. Prospects may only be selected during the prospect draft to be held annually each August. Players cannot be selected through waivers until they are on a major league roster (including expanded 40 man rosters in September). That is what our rules state. A player has to be on the 40 man roster to be selected via waivers. But we had a discussion about this before the season started. Let's say I wanted to pick up Cody Buckel (Texas). He is not on Texas's 40 man roster (I checked). To my knowledge, he necer has been. My reading of Roadkill's rules above would say no. But.... Could I? My understanding from previous years is that I cannot pick up someone who could be in June's draft or an International free agent who was not available during Roadkill's last draft. I can pick up any FA as long as there was an opportunity for someone from Roadkill to pick him up in a draft. Since Buckle could have been picked in the last draft, then I can pick him up and place him in the majors right now. I am confused.
