  1. Don't forget...Boise needs to move to Milwaukie. Milwaukie,Oregon, that is.
  2. 1) With his size, weight, the only position he will be able to play is first base. 2) His foot work and glove work around first is pretty good. 3) His size limits his range. hard hits balls to his left will be a problem. Bunts will be a problem. he has issues with pop-ups. 4) When he makes contact, he can put a hurt on the ball. It has that nice crack. The ball jumps off his bat. 5) He is very patient. He walks a lot. He waits for his pitch, fastball. If he guesses right, good things happen. 6) He has problems with off speed stuff. When he misses he looks bad, and he strikes out a lot. My best guess (and I am not a professional by any means) is that he is like Hoilman. His power will be intriguing, but he will hit his ceiling in Peoria, or Daytona. He should not hold up Vogelbach or any other top prospect.
  3. Nah, we just wanted to get Castillo some time and needed Soto gone, in my opinion, and there wasn't a market for him. Evidently the Dempster thing came together during the last 30 minutes before the deadline. It MAY have helped a tad in getting him to accept a deal there, but I think he wanted out of Chicago, after all that went down and would have went to a few places once he found out the Dodgers were out for sure. You are probably right, but I tend to think of the deal as Dempster AND Soto for Brigham. Villeneuva, AND Hendricks.
  4. I may way off here, but does anyone think the Soto's trip to Texas was arranged to make Dempster willing to accept a trade???
  5. Somewhere Charlie Sheen is smiling:)
  6. I don't understand the concern. Take a look at McCutchen's numbers in the minors when he was rapidly promoted.
  7. Have you attended a game in Eugene? The stadium is old...probably built during the depression. Great in as you are right on top of the game, terrible in that just about every game I have attended has had at least one fan beaned by a foul ball. BTW ... If my memory serves me right the Cubs were in Eugene a number of years back, but then left for Boise. What I really want is for the Cubs to move their team to Milwaukie (suburb of Portland). Edit: Since I live in Milwaukie, obviously Iam being selfish
  8. Cool. Another Hawk's fan.
  9. Well this should make things better for those Chief's fans who missed Baez.
  10. I would agree with Tim and Raw. I am not looking for wholesale changes. All I would like to see is that all of the managers really want to participate, even if they are out of contention. Some simplification of the rules would be OK. Thanks Adam.
  11. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=C&sid=t443&t=p_pbp&pid=607342 Admittedly I saw him for just one game (afterwards he was sent back to Mesa), but Marra looked good. Both behind the plate and at the plate. I thought that he was a better prospect then Contreras. He's probably a better prospect than Contreras (close), but Contreras has spent a few years in the system. Contreras might have a tick better upside defensively, and since he had been in the system longer, getting him up to Boise and getting Marra work in Arizona made sense. I would agree. I have no problem with how the Cubs handled this.

  13. Who is acting as commissioner now? Does anyone object to Adam being "The Commish"? Does Adam promise to use his newly found commish powers for good and not evil?
  14. Shoulders...in the outfield..... :-k Speaking of Rock....Vote for Rock Shoulders! http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=3666557540787&saved

  17. I would hate to see this league fold. Having managed losing teams in the past, I can say that it is tough to keep motivated when you are way out of the play-off race, but I did. I do agree that we probably need a few new managers. As far as rule changes...I would strive to simplify things. We should strive to eliminate those rules that lead to illegal rosters and clarify the penalties for having one. But on the whole this league has been fun. Thanks Juan.
  18. Boise Hawks Radio guy says he's been 91-92, though he hasn't gotten readings for a couple starts. That would match what the scouts were getting on their radar guns earlier in the season.
  19. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/minors/business-beat/2012/2613772.html According to this article the Yakima Bears (NWL) is moving to Hillsboro and another team is in talks to move to Milwaukie. Both are suburbs of Portland, Or. This could mean that I would have two more opportuniyies to see the Hawks. Or maybe the team currently in negotiations to move to Milwaukie is the Hawks franchise (although I doubt it). This probably doesn't mean much to most of the posters on this site, but it is good news for me. :D
  20. I think Dunston is going to end up being a decent prospect. He was just a bit over matched at the plate in Boise. Give him some time.
  21. Quakers

    Week 16

Not sure what the ruling will be on this. Dickey came on in relief and gave up a homerun. Earned -6 points. I assume those points need to be erased. But after tonight I doubt it will make much difference either way.
  22. You'd have to be a really clumsy numbnuts to not be ready to man 1B in short season ball. Not to mention that I don't really understand how defense gets so appreciably harder by the level to where you would wait for progress at one level before furthering development at another. This has been bothering me as well. It's not like the balls are going to come at him any differently in Boise. Why not work on any defensive problems at Boise while actually being challenged by pitching? Maybe they want to give Shoulders a shot? Vogelbach's arrival would cut into Rock's time.
