  1. An enjoyable night in Salem. Notes 1) I like Hanneman. Solid single in the first, Just missed two homeruns (he was trying to take advantage of a steady breeze to right). One ball that just missed going out would have been a grand slam. But when a man was on second and the game was on line he delivered with a solid single. He seems to have a good idea of what he is doing at the plate. He looked good in center, but he really wasn't tested. Clearly one of the better players on the field, but as a third round pick who is 22 he should be. 2) Dunston has clearly progressed from last year. He seems to have gone to the same school as Vogelbach in that he signs his name in the ground as he walks up to the plate. A very good athlete, but sometimes I wish he would focus more on the game and less on his style. 3) Penalvar - I like his range and arm at short. Good instincts and a good athlete, but he is young for this league and it shows. A high throw to first was his only error, but he misplayed a couple of other balls that were ruled hits (and by NWL standards they should have been hits.) But my impression is that he will be a very good SS, but he is still raw. A bit over matched at the plate at this point, but again my impression is that he will hit as the season progresses. I will be keeping an eye on him. 4) Pugeliese has clearly progressed from last year. He was missing his spots in the first and he was lucky to get out of it only giving up one run, but by the third he was coasting. He will be at KC next year and should do well. 5) Lockhart was the player of the game (if not Hanneman or Pugeliese) three solid singles (on base 4 times), scored the winning run and played a very solid second base. 6) Balaguert intrigued me. Excellent numbers, a big man, he has this presence....you just know if he makes contact it is going a long way. Normally I discount players that were at a higher level last year (Peoria), but his birthdate is 1/9/93, so he is age appropriate for this league (actually on the young side)...
  2. I'm not surprised. He looked pretty good when I saw him with Boise last year. Except for at the plate, where he just wasn't squaring up on the ball. I didn't think it was that he did not have the talent, but that he just wasn't ready yet. I think the question is going to be does he get a mid-season promotion to KC or stay at Boise the entire year?
  3. I am going to the Boise series with Salem-Keizer (July 1 - 3). What should I look out for?
  4. Can we take the non-draft talk to another thread please :beg:
  5. Found this on CBS's fantasy page Albert Almora, OF, Cubs Affiliate: Class A Kane County 2013 stats: .402/.434/.543/.978, one triple, one home run, eight doubles, 11 RBI, 16 runs, 13 strikeouts, five walks and three stolen bases in 22 games Everyone knew Almora was good when the Cubs drafted him with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft, but batting .402 in 22 games is nothing short of jaw dropping. Almora missed the start of the season with a broken bone in his left hand, but it doesn't seem the down time affected him. In fact, it seems like he feels like he needs to make up for lost time. Surely there will be debate as to who is the better Cubs' outfield prospect -- Almora or Jorge Soler -- but everyone can agree that the Cubs' long-term outfield situation looks promising, and it could get even better if Brett Jackson solves whatever has been ailing him at Triple-A. Scouts rave that Almora has more polish and better makeup than most high schoolers in recent years, and the 19-year-old outfielder isn't disappointing. Cubs president Theo Epstein is usually adamant about a prospect logging heavy at-bats at Triple-A before his pro debut, so it will be interesting to see if Almora is the player that breaks the mold.
  6. what do you mean throw out? One of the things in favor of the two "lesser" prospects is that there are two of them. If the better guy gets hurt, that underscores part of the value of having quantity. You can't ignore that part of the equation. I think he's referring to Tim's idea of figuring out if BA has gotten any better at picking out future successful Major Leaguers. Yes, this. I don't expect anyone to predict that Mark Prior will get flipped by Marcuse Giles and then have Brad Hawpe hit a liner off of his throwing elbow. You didn't have to predict the specifics once Dusty was hired. How are the Rdes doing this year?

    Week 10

HRam is off the DL. So I moved him to SS, Hardy to DH, and dropped Wells.
  8. I see that Rock's average now stands at .259.
  9. Few weeks after the draft. Or: The 17th is the home opener, but they are starting their season on the 13th in Eugene. Hmm...I may take a long weekend and visit Eugene so that I can catch the series. It is a nice way tio start a Summer vacation.

Quakers are now at 3-3 :( I hope that Juan has fixed his bench situation.

    Week #6

How does Juan justify a 5-man bench? I can see a 4-man bench since he has only 6 active pitchers...but the fifth man? Am I missing something?

    Week #6

Quakers now at 3-2 =D> I like the way Arenado has started the season. Iwakuma, Dempster, and Slowey are on a nice roll. Chapman and Reed make a great pen.

Rameriz back on the DL again

    Week #5

Rameriz off the DL. Dropped Hardy.

    Week #5

Oh well. Quakers are now at 2-2 At least I am getting some of my players off the DL. Saunders is back, Rameriz tomorrow. Also Arenado has been called up.
  16. Maybe. My memory is that he was older than the other players at Boise. I would not get too excited about him until he does better at a higher level. From what I saw when he made contact, he put a hurt on the ball. But he did not make enough contact. Breaking balls were fooling him. Off-speed pitches too. But he was patient and tried to wait for his pitch. But I am not a scout. Maybe he is seeing the ball better. Maybe he is really a diamond in the rough. But I would wait and see how he does at this level in a few weeks. Someone is bound to find a chink in his armor.

    Week #3

The Quakers are still in 1st (after accounting for the 9 starts). :yahoo: Adam, apparently you have not seen it yet, but the Owls had 9 starts against me last week. Would you use your commish powers and rectify the situation:) Thanks Adam (or whomever)

    Week #2

what's the rule on this? lose your top scoring start for each one that you're over? looks like you'll win comfortably once his score is fixed. The rule used to be that you lost your last starts that put you over. Adam has stated that the new rule is that you lose your top two starts. Either way, I come out on top. Is Jeff overseas? I tried to warn him.
  21. Rock has had a nice start. He can put a hurt on the ball when he hits it. Athletic for a big man.
  22. Quakers

    Week #2

The Owls will have 9 starts against the Quakers this week

    Quakers are in 1st 8-)
  25. Quakers

    Week #1

If Raw lives up to his hype, Rodelo should have his best start taken away.
