  1. I voted not once, not twice, but thrice! Good luck :D
  2. Wow, rude. Good thread though, 98. For some reason, I didn't even think of the Cubs' option to start Prior on the DL - that'd be a terrible choice. I'm not calling Prior himself spoiled, but he *has* been spoiled by the treatment given to him by USC, and the Cubs organization. Time to start treating him like any normal member of the Cubs, like Marshall, just as was mentioned.
  3. I spent a year in Beijing in an educational co-op/exchange program. This was available to me since my dad works there with Caterpillar. Anyway, they live in an apartment complex for westerners which has one channel that shows Japanese sports. I forget the channel name..HSK or something? Anyway, I saw a few random games and just tried to focus on the players that stood out. Fukudome was one of these players. He also seemed to play at a higher level during the WBC. He's one of the few Japanese players with power that will translate to the american game, IMHO. I'd be thrilled to see the Cubs make an effort to acquire him.
  4. At least my final four are still standing. Wisconsin, Georgetown, UCLA, and Memphis. Oh yea. Anyone going to follow the Bradley / Miss. St NIT game in a few hours??
  5. Sometimes I get annoyed with the people on this boards attention to detail, but hey, I have to agree with you on this one. Spamming is lame and thats one thing NSBB holds over its competitors - no spam, and no BS.
  6. Yep, and that Maddux guy really sucked, didn't he? No offense, but what a dumb comment. Apples to oranges, man.
  7. Marshall: "Dude......wait...what?"
  8. I thought I put it in there. :( Sinus headache...making me delusional...
  9. Myself and a few friends have about four spots open for a Yahoo! fantasy baseball league. Draft is live on 3/14. Please send me a message on NSBB if you are interested. Very mature league with smart players, should be fun!!
  10. WE HAVE NOT WON SINCE 1908 WE WILL STILL NOT WIN AND WE'LL HAVE A CRAPPY BALLPARK INSTEAD OF A NICE ONE AND SOME GUY WHO LIVES IN LAKE FOREST WILL HAVE STOCK THAT'S WORTH A LITTLE MORE. HOO-*******-RAY! Well at least you can take solace in your assumed superior knowledge of all things Cub.
  11. You guys (some of you) are being REALLY elitist. Get over it. To win games you have to spend money. Regardless of your ranting about the Tribune having x amount of dollars - ADVERTISING brings in the money that is spent on talent. Seriously, just get over it.
  12. WE HAVE NOT WON SINCE 1908
  13. Only Bud Selig could put the Indians in the civil rights game.
  14. Exactly
  15. You'd think the Bears just lost the Super Bowl or something. The uncalled for sarcasm aside, being a fan doesn't give you the right to flat out make ridiculous excuses and badmouth the other team. The AFC has been dominant all season and I don't know why many of you are so surprised. Nothing happened in this game that hasn't happened all year long, for either team. Edit: What is your deal anyway TT? I can count on one hand the seconds it takes you to reply with condescension to whatever it is I may post. Is this all about sabrmetrics? *hug*
  16. No offense but a lot of you have sour grapes right now.
  17. Indy's defense (especially Bob Sanders) has been cheating since about mid 1st quarter. DO SOMETHING about it!!
  18. Can we trade him for royce clayton, bill bray, and gary majewski?
  19. I really expect Lilly to have a great season. 14 wins last year in the ALE. He's moving to a crap division and pitching against hitters who (generally) have never seen his stuff.
  20. Did someone take over Bowden's body and mind? He's been surprisingly good since taking over last year. Multiple good deals and transactions. I know someone's going to bring up Soriano - but hey, it's better than him trading him for peanuts and getting ripped in the press about it.
  21. In all honesty - this is an outstanding contract for the Cardinals. At that price, even a .260/.310/.450 line or something is one hell of a bargain.
  22. To TT: In 2006 I broke my leg falling off a step ladder cleaning gutters. I didn't have anything to do BUT watch baseball. As for a number? Jeez. At least 150-155 Cubs games. At least 100 Mariners games. About 100 Dodgers games. Scattered numbers for the rest, with only a few teams receiving no interest (Atlanta, KC, all the NLC teams). Trust me buddy, my g/f will unfortunately vouch for me on this. :D To Tim: I have edit OCD. Sorry. About Barrett: Since the second he became a Cub, he's been a terrible game caller. Again, this is just my opinion so if you ask for some sort of numerical proof you're out of luck. The guy's a converted third basemen, came from a decrepit organization, served his first years with the Cubs under a brain-dead manager and an arguably brain dead pitching coach....you can't fault the guy. But @#($)@# I counted a million fastballs on 0-2 counts.
  23. Best post of the thread. :D Can Larry play CF?
  24. I'm not picking on you here, since a few others have mentioned how bad Barrett is at calling games, but this just isn't a strong argument. Chances are, unless the signs are coming from the dugout, the pitcher has every right to shake him off until he gets the sign he wants. (And if the signs are coming from the dugout, that's not Barrett's fault.) Bottom line, the pitcher is in control of what he throws more often than not. Other things to consider is that even if Barrett is calling for an 0-2 or 1-2 fastball, he's certainly not calling for the pitcher to throw it in the middle of the strikezone. Depending on the hitter, a fastball thrown to the right spot might be the right call in that situation, but it's still up to the pitcher to execute. Pitchers who blame their problems on the catcher's ability (or lack thereof) to call a game are simply looking for a scapegoat. I think I've hijacked this thread enough, if you want to copy this to a new thread, I'd be glad to reply. Also - this is a really good conversation :D
