  1. Who knows? With the patented Cubs Injury Information Release department censoring everything, it will remain a mystery for months.
  2. PEORIA, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood will have minor arthroscopic surgery on his right knee next week, general manager Jim Hendry said Friday. Wood's surgery will take place Tuesday in Los Angeles. The 28-year-old Wood had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Aug. 31 and was not expected to be ready for the start of this season. He's thrown off the mound a couple of times in spring training, testing his shoulder. An All-Star in 2003, Wood was 3-4 with a 4.23 ERA in 21 games last year. He was slowed by injuries all season, missing about three months while going on the disabled list three times. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2352970
  3. I don't think he was on the juice, he's always been a small guy. Look at B. Boone to see what roids can do to a normally short-of-stature guy.
  4. You're wrong. And when are you high on anyone, or anything, ever? edit: 3/20 is awful. have to admit that.
  5. Give Ken a break. He came here with some news and was given a sarcastic comment as a first reply. Anyway, let's give Wood a chance here. One thing we have to keep in mind is the Cubs brass is responsible for him probably missing opening day. As a player, you just want to get back on the field, and you will do whatever is recommended to you by the people that cut the check. Yes, Wood has proven to be injury prone so far, but he is still an under 30 year old guy, and has menacing stuff. He is a Cub, bottom line, and as long as that fact is true - we should support him.
  6. Have you ever played sports? If you have, you should know that some decisions you make are literally split-second. There was a play with Virginia Tech where Marcus Vick throat-stomped another player and was dogged in the media for it. No one is advocating either decision, but I can see how in the heat of the moment, you'd do something regrettable, something you'd never do under calm normal circumstances.
  7. Am I the only one that's excited about the WBC? I know aRam is a Cub, and of the injury risk (repeat ad naseum), but I'm somewhat dissapointed that the talent level of the tournament has declined so much. America is the only country that doesn't seem to care about international sporting events. Olympics, World Cup, WBC, etc...
  8. I conversely would be optomistic about the part where he implies he is being forced to play Murton. Maybe Hendry is asserting some authority.
  9. Until Murton proves he can succeed at the major league level, Soriano is the better player. However, one could say Murton is better due to his age and contract status. Still, the point remains, end of story, no arguments, that right now Soriano is the better player. Let me know when Murton posts 4 years straight of 800+ OPS. I don't want to hear about stadiums or leagues or whatever. Four years of 800+ is all that matters, you can't pick and choose what stats you want to use.
  10. What a beautiful stadium! I've always hated the Cardinals, but respected them. (For example, I just hate the White Sox, Mets, etc.) I hope the city of St. Louis is grateful for this stadium, just look to markets like Florida for an example of how bad things could be. And as a Cubs fan, I don't even have to mention how glad I am for Busch to be gone.
  11. I'm sorry but I respectfully disagree to the starter of this thread. The man won a World Series. It really is that simple. What else do you want? The entire point is to win. If Hendry won the World Series this year, he'd be a genius too in everyones eyes. It's just easy for Cubs fans to be biased, especially against the Sox or Cardinals.
  12. I don't understand why MacPhail doesn't catch more flak about the failings recently. 2003 was a success, 2004 was a decent team, and 2005 was just horribly unlucky. I have been impressed with Hendry, and I'm on the fence with Baker. If someone really asked me who to blame, the finger goes right to MacPhail. Mismanagement starts at the top and trickles down.
  13. Don't take this personally, but you can't be serious. You're openly calling for clubhouse discontent as a way to win more ballgames?
  14. Yea, that was pretty much it.
  15. Count me in. PM me if anything comes to fruition.
  16. I think he knows he could have found it on his own, maybe he was looking for some personal advice on when/how to best order them? Are any of you planning on attending opening day? Maybe we could organize something?
  17. Maybe this is a stretch, but with Garner, LaRussa, Yost, and Tracy all forseeably locked up, does this impact Baker's mindset enterring the 2006 season? Astros extended the contract of manager Phil Garner by one year, through the 2007 season…. "We are very pleased about the performance of our team under Phil, including reaching the World Series for the first time in the history of the franchise," said Astros chairman and chief executive officer Drayton McLane, Jr. "It is an exciting time for the Houston Astros,..." http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051031&content_id=1262948&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou
  18. I know I'm new here, but I was lurking for a while, and I do notice an over-emphasis of Sabrmetrics/Billy-Ball. However, that doesn't mean anyone is right or wrong, it just means a lot of people share a certain opinion. No big deal!
  19. I really dislike Bonds as much as the next guy, but I think he dropped out of the WBC due to pressure from the Giants. Steroids might have negatively impacted his health, which is WHY the Giants are concerned, but I don't think it's the main reason for this, especially testing. Besides, wasn't the testing mumbo-jumbo publically released before any players signed up?
  20. Thank you. I like Jones as a person and as a player, but like Kearns, he has something to prove. Besides, our bench is totally lacking in any semblance of power.
