  1. I think they could have gotten more for Hernandez. A lot of teams like the White Sox seemed like they needed some relief help. And after hearing all week how the Pitt GM was asking for the moon in return for players, I expected more. Oliver Perez is still a young guy with talent, and he's left handed. Players like Nady are a dime a dozen.
  2. Craig Wilson for Shawn Chacon, Kip Wells for a AA guy with a 4.43 ERA, Oliver Perez (!) and Roberto Hernandez for Xavier Nady What are they thinking out there by the Alleghany? Shawn Chacon was picked up off the scrap heap, Nady is a platoon/bench player at best, and why are they giving up so much pitching? Just don't understand the thought process here. Why give up on Perez? I'd give up on the pitching coach before Perez.
  3. Pierre's defense is fine, he doesnt' have the best arm but what you want from CF is range. Barrett's defense is another story though.
  4. No. Luna for Belliard was pretty much an even deal where neither team improved that much or lost that much. This deal just plain sucks a fatty fatty ding dong. Just curious, but who would you have preferred from LA? I doubt they'd have given up any of the Martin/Ethier/Kemp group, and Guzman was sent to TB.
  5. Oh, I forgot - this is better than Luna for Belliard at least!
  6. Sorry for the heated exchanges to a few of you - I just routinely feel that this message board is pessimistic and negative above all else. I subscribe to the school of thought that defense up the middle and groundball pitching wins championships. OBP is nice, but honestly I only care about it in the leadoff and 2 hole slots. Other than that, I just want players who wont strike out, have productive AB's (runner on third, less than one out), and can get a lot of XBH in proportion to singles. Izturis and Cedeno will save many, many runs - more than Todd Walker and his .350 OBP ever earned us.
  7. That's the trouble of ever thinking that signing a middle reliever is a great move. What's the point of having a great starting 5 if the bullpen f's it up every other game? I don't think there would be a point to that. Nor do I think it makes any sense to call the signing of a middle reliever to a 3 year deal a great move. The vast majority fail to maintain whatever success they had to earn the contract in the first place. Middle relievers are failed starters who aren't good enough to dominate in short stints year after year (which are the few closers worth the money). I will agree with you that a 3 year contract is a bad idea, actually. However, I have no problem signing a reliever to a lucrative 1 or 2 deal if he has a track record of success.
  8. Just look at the title of this thread. Negativity reigns supreme on this message board.

  10. Then you would suck as a GM. And, wow, you have the authority to dole out such opinions. There's a reason why Hendry is a GM and you're sitting in a lazyboy, I dont care how many posts you have.
  11. You people are insane. Pitching and defense wins championships, not your sabremetrics/OBP/VORP crap. Yes, you can tell a lot about a player by numbers - but PITCHING AND DEFENSE WINS. I love this move. Besides, you can get your precious OBP from other positions. If I was a GM, all I want from my C, 2B, SS, and CF is DEFENSE. Oh, and stop hanging jmajew to the cross because his opinion differs from your own. You people are half communist sometimes.
  12. Ramirez is definitely one of my least favorite Cubs. I severely question his commitment to making himself the best player he can be.
  13. One of my best friends is a M's fan, and he's always curious why they have three 1B's on the roster, but not one competant manager. You think Neifi is bad? Look up Willie Bloomquist's numbers.
  14. I don't like this trade at all for Milwaukee, they just got a bunch of spare parts.
  15. Hill reminds me of Ankiel. The 9+ ERA in like 40 IP doesn't really do anything for me. Who cares if he has a great curveball, you can't throw it every pitch. Even in RBI baseball you couldn't get by with one pitch!
  16. 28 saves, a 3 ERA, and 9K/9IP is horrible?
  17. Yes but being on national TV, maybe Hendry will be shamed into holding some accountability for the team. I'm actually for the crowd to throw REAL feces on the field. If I was at the game I'd throw everything in my pockets onto the field, bunch of talentless losers
  18. I've also just been laughing, I mean who cares at this point
  19. Is anyone listening to the radio? Santo is *really* irritated. "Why does every opposing pitcher look like Cy Young against us?"
  20. Santo is noticeably on edge and ripping the Cubs...he's going to snap.
  21. Dusty isn't going anywhere, there's no replacement. And if they just fire Dusty and not his merry bunch of morons as well, what's the point?
