  1. Why wouldn't he? Gordon's practically a Piston, and I really hope we get rid of Hinrich.
  2. I'd love the Bulls to take Lawson here, and ship Hinrich off to, well, wherever.
  3. It's just not worth getting caught when you're a pro baseball player. Get your priorities in order, in my opinion. It's not like your life is terrible and depressing and you live in soviet russia if you can't smoke a blunt. Get over it. You have responsibilities.
  4. Then who else buys the tickets and merchandise?
  5. That's between them and their employers. Nothing to do with us. If you want to be bothered, prepare to be bothered a *lot*. Athletes do a lot of stuff. I'm not bothered by it on a personal level. He can do whatever the hell he wants, and I won't judge him. I don't care. What I do care about though, is that when you're a pro athlete, you're representing the Cubs, you're representing all of us, not just yourself. I care about that. It's the same logic as being caught doing anything else illegal, people just get all emotional about it because of the debate about the legality of pot, specifically. Point is, it's unhealthy and illegal, and he's being paid (by us) to perform, and that inhibits performance. Not cool. What if he got pulled over with pot in his vehicle and got suspended from the team? Would you care then?
  6. by that standard, pro athletes should also not drink alcohol (except for a glass of wine a day) or eat fatty foods. I know it's obviously not possible, but no, they shouldn't. And some don't!
  7. Why are we talking about the legality of pot? That has nothing to do with this. How can anyone debate smoking weed is unhealthy? Smoking ANYTHING is unhealthy for your circulatory and respiration systems. This guys a pro ball player. Come on. And to whoever said "dont watch sports" if we don't agree with stuff, well, thats ridiculous. I could in turn say "well, dont PLAY sports" if you're going to be irresponsible about it.
  8. He definitely has value on this team, and he's shown that in a couple roles now.
  9. Not clear at all. Lee was stinking up the joint before Ramirez got hurt, but he's been great since. Bradley stunk long before Ramirez went down. Soriano's numbers were already well on their way down in the three weeks leading up to Ramirez getting injured. Theriot was a 750 OPS player at the end of April and he's a 750 OPS player now. They were a subpar hitting team before Ramirez went down (12th in NL in April OPS) and when Ramirez went down they had to play Fontenot against more LHP than they would have liked and inserted a variety of crappy players into the 2B position on a daily basis. Plus Gregg struggled before Ramirez went down, and Marmol hasn't thrown 2 consecutive strikes all year. Ramirez in the lineup didn't make us a good offensive team, he held our head above water. Now, we're drowning.
  10. Tell me about it. Trust me, I'm not gonna rip anyone for saying that. I know we make fun of "grit" and "chemistry" and all those terms, and we should, but there's no debating the Cubs are lifeless right now. Hell, for the entire year. edit - also, like any corporation, the CEO or executives shape the mindset of the company as a whole. I assume a major league dugout uses the same logic. If your manager is apathetic, is it that wild and crazy to assume the team will become apathetic?
  11. Speaking of that, when do the Bears report? :(
  12. Ok, even Blanco is messing up now (defensively, even!). Arrrgghhhhh.
  13. What's with that ad behind home plate? $5 for tickets, parking, and food for a Tigers game? How is that possible.
  14. dontrelle Willis is pretty bad but he doesn't have 5.5 years left on his so yeah. Barry zitos is pretty bad too. Vernon Wells has to be in there somewhere too.
  15. We are dead last in baseball in OPS. It doesn't take much to be better than us right now. There are 8 teams worse than us in OPS Not with RISP. Which is arguably all that matters. so home runs doubles and triples without RISP don't matter? Fukudomes runscoring triple doesn't matter? Hitting with RISP is very important but not important enough to say "were dead last in ops" and not add "with risp". More than anything I was just trying to clarify that we're dead last in OPS with RISP, not in general OPS. Not gonna debate that triples aren't valuable or whatever, as that wasn't my point.
  16. Not trying to argue just for the hell of it, but I've really been impressed by Detroit this series. Yea, Gregg blew that game - but it was Leyland's move that put them in the situation for that HR. He didn't have to PH in that spot. Their bullpen is what really impresses me. They're going to be near impossible to beat if they have late leads if they keep this up or even improve on it in the second half. They steal bases, they hit for power, they do everything depending on what's needed in the context at the given time. They're adaptable. And that's the key word, adaptable. The cubs are as rigid as a baseball team could possibly be.
  17. We score one, they score two. Rinse, repeat.
  18. We are dead last in baseball in OPS. It doesn't take much to be better than us right now. There are 8 teams worse than us in OPS Not with RISP. Which is arguably all that matters.
  19. We are dead last in baseball in OPS. It doesn't take much to be better than us right now. I don't really think they've kicked the Cubs butt. They are a little better, yes, but they aren't Boston. They are the best of a weak division. I don't know about that. Up to this point, maybe, but going forward I think Detroit's a very dangerous team. They don't have the incredible pitching depth that Boston does, but I certainly think they can hang with them in a seven game series.
  20. We are dead last in baseball in OPS. It doesn't take much to be better than us right now. It's not just the offense man. Their bullpen is so much better than ours. Their bench is better than ours. Their manager is better than ours. Their team defense is better than ours. And before someone says I'm being overly negative - what really irks me, and I assume everyone else as well, is how much we've fallen from last year. This is just the epitome of frustration. I dont get it. We should be better.
  21. I know it's cliche and generalization, but Detroit's just a better team than us. I don't know how much discussion there is even to be had about this series. They've kicked our ass so far.
  22. Good thing it took 6 weeks... And where does Fox go when Aramis comes back? Back up 1st, 3rd, LF. I'd rather have Fox around than Hoff if we can only pick one. Yup, same here.
  23. And only like 10 days after it was obvious to the rest of us!
  24. lol. Brenly: "For Fox to get that triple for the cycle, I think he'd NEED a cycle to get around the bases"
