  1. Philadelphia Phun Phact: Jimmy Rollins makes more per year than Terrell Owens.
  2. My wife's best friend's husband has season tickets to the Yanks down the first base line. He's a very cool guy who works in the financial field there in the Big Apple. He told me, "Anytime you want to see a Yankee game, let me know." I doubt he'd be too willing to allow me to horn in on those.
  3. Where did this come from? And, where did Kerry start opening day? He wasn't on the mound in Arizona.
  4. I will still like to see the Cubs throw an obscene amount of money at Mazzone. I don't know that there has been a better value in baseball than Leo over the last 15 years.
  5. I'll kill myself if we trade Hill for the super overrated Millwood. You've made that empty threat before.
  6. Cool. Just remember, you don't have to agree with everyone, just keep the disagreement civil.
  7. With Wood looking at a sim game shortly and the likely prospect of Prior's return this season, I don't see much point in spending the money on the rotation. Rusch has cemented himself in the rotation at this point and Maddux is always there. So, there would be a squeeze when the dust settles. I think its a matter of gutting it out with Mitre, Williams and/or Koronka. If the Cubs are really a good team, they should be able to overcome some shakiness from one or two starters. While I still haven't seen anything to be excited about in Koronka, the Cubs had a chance to win last night. No sense in spending money on pitching when the offense is still terribly suspect.
  8. And he said "nice retort " to me,is that all you can come up with. And here come the threats, because your case is weak and invalid, you resort to this when you know your wrong! If they want to ban me so be it. Well with comments like Corey being the next comming of Beltran and Edmonds dives to much because he doen't get a good jump on the ball, and the one I love the most,Patterson is better defensivly than Edmonds, maybe you should go back! Man, quit with the attitude already. If you don't mind getting banned from this site, then you aren't really interested in talking baseball, particularly Cub baseball. A number of mistakes: First, I said "solid retort", not "nice retort". Second, biittner was defending his position. He didn't take your childish baiting. Third, he didn't threaten you, he gave you some much needed advice. He isn't a mod, so he can't ban you. However, he is dead on. Fourth, mocking any comments by any poster in this thread is unnecessary and unwelcome.
  9. Don't watch baseball much?? Solid retort.
  10. Vance doesn't have a chance to land one of those spots.
  11. Ah. The complexities of the evolution of a thread.
  12. Every time I see Cubway's name, I feel compelled to try to order a 6 inch meatball with cheese, onions and green peppers on wheat. Yeah, it's always good to stay healthy by ordering that wheat bread. Do you get a diet coke with your Big Macs? I have never eaten a Big Mac. True story.
  13. Every time I see Cubway's name, I feel compelled to try to order a 6 inch meatball with cheese, onions and green peppers on wheat.
  14. I thought Piazza's injury was a quadricep that "rolled up". In addition, are you certain Piazza didn't have surgery? I can't believe such an injury would repair itself.
  15. Burntiz bunting? Uhg. He didn't look comfortable at all, and made what turned out to be a pretty retched attempt. Why not use Hairston, Maddux or Rusch to bunt Lee over if Baker really wanted to go that route? Perhaps even Wilson, though I don't know how adept he is at bunting. Hairston and Macias were still available to replace Burnitz in the OF if Baker PH for him. In addition, its another example of the stupidity of a 12 man pitching staff. I don't care that we are in a stretch of 20 straight games. If you have to mix and match with guys in Iowa to replenish the pen, so be it. The fact of the matter is that some guys get used so infrequently in the pen that it is difficult to imagine how the pen can get depleted. Baker gets hooked on particular guys and goes with them. Fine. No problem. However, instead of letting some guys decay at the end of the pen, bring up Grieve or Kelton to provide greater late inning flexibility.
  16. I think Dunn is an impossible dream. Cincy doesn't generally get bent over in trades and they almost certainly understand Dunn's value. It would take a monster package to get him, I'd wager. Start with Dope/Felix and throw in a ton of pitching.
  17. Bringing Greg Maddux out in the eighth inning. With seven guys in the bullpen and Maddux having shown signs earlier of some control issues, I never would have sent him back out there. I think Dusty may have fallen into a trap of trying to stretch his starters out. Greg isn't the same horse anymore that you can do that with. He was living on borrowed time out there. Not to mention the fact that there are seven freaking guys down in the bullpen playing rock/paper/scissors. I'm sure plenty of people will disagree. But, I thought it was a mistake and an example of Dusty not recognizing the limitations of his players.
  18. At the risk of redirecting the ire of the board to me, I think this is a new argument that I haven't seen yet in this thread. I don't know what validity it has. I found that to be a somewhat curious meltdown.
  19. Uhg. Not another round of, "Sisco is an immature fat guy with no motivation, fastball or minor league success," I hope.
  20. Being a 6'10" lefty who throws 96 might have something to do with it. Being a 6'10 lefty who throws 96 got him a 4.21 ERA in High A ball. How does a 4.21 ERA in High A turn into a 1.93 ERA at the major league level one year later? No one saw this coming. Hendry certainly didn't. Did you say to yourself, "Deeg, that Sisco and his 4+ ERA in A ball sure looks good, I bet he would be the best middle reliever on the team"? Of course you didnt. I didnt want him unprotected either, but I dont see how you could predict such major league success so soon. No - but given that we're falling all over ourselves praising a prospect almost five years older (Hill) for what he's doing in AA, that's really beside the point. We could have kept Sisco and let him beat the crap out of FSL hitters, and yes - I did think he had a good chance of being an impact pitcher. Huge lefties with great arms don't exactly grow on trees. I'm talking about this year. No one thought he would not suck in the majors THIS YEAR. I was cautiously optimistic he wouldn't suck. I never thought he would get on a roll like he has so far, however.
  21. No way. At the very least, he has shown the Royals that he can be dominant. And, he is getting rave reviews from outside that organization. He is gone, even if he starts to stink with any consistency. It would be a bigger folly if KC sent him back at this point than the Cubs leaving him unprotected. The Royals absolutely suck. Sisco, while probably pitching over his head for the first two months, has shown some brilliance. The Royals can always revert to plan A and just use him in blowouts and other "end of the pen" situations.
  22. :sunny: I love that he is doing well. But, the massive number of walks he is accumulating will catch up to him for some 5-6 run inning. That doesn't diminish the fact that he has established that he can dominate at this level. More on Sisco from Ken Rosenthal:
  23. I'll say it again, you can't walk across the plate. On oldy, but a goody. (I bet Raw hates that one as bad a "base clogging").
