  1. Man, this is too bad. I remember debating drafting Prior or Tex. I was adament about drafting Prior over Tex. I'm not sure what exactly happened that derailed his career in Chicago, but I hope he lands on his feet and does well for himself/family. Can't wish the guy harm. I just hope he goes to the AL and not someone we have to play alot every year. It will be alot less painful to not see him pitch all that often vs the Cubs. Pure speculation here, but could Mark be on the Mitchell Report? It seems like we've had alot of pitchers being outed in the steriod probes............. maybe this is the Cubs letting him go before it all hits the fan? I doubt it, but just a thought. Also, a quick question. Can the Cubs re-sign him after not tendering him? Or is that the rule that he can't sign until late May if he's not tendered?
  2. I kinda like it. It's unique that's for sure.
  3. Who is the right person on the O's? Probably the player who plays our position of need (SS) Ding, ding, ding. Tejada fits this teams needs more then Roberts does. He's probably on the Mitchell report, but that only means you'll lose him the first 10-15 games of next year. I know the reports from Bruce that his money is too much, but if the reports are correct on what the Cubs offered Matsui................ it's just not too much money to take on. Tejada at SS/DeRo at 2B > Theriot at SS/Roberts at 2B
  4. I like Guillen. He would be a good upgrade offensively. I don't know how his defense is at SS, I know he's had some injury issues. Not good at all. A move to 1B was necessitated by poor defense and various recurring injuries and ailments. He might be able to handle 3B better, but that doesn't help us out much. He played 130+ games at SS last season, but he had 24 errors. I see he had a few games at 1B and DH as well.
  5. Roberts is okay. I still think it's the wrong person on the O's to be after.
  6. There is apparently no rational with Meph as it pertains to Pie. The guy uses park adjustment, Fly ball ratios, etc. to validate trading for a player like Greene. (Which I don't have a problem with trying to acquire Greene) But to look at Pie's career stats and skill set is too much to ask. I just hope the Cubs stand by their backing of Pie as the starting CF. He'll answer all the critics if he's given the opportunity to play everyday. Sure he can improve on a few things, but he's not going to improve by pinch hitting/running.
  7. Pie kicked Meph's dog. He's still got hard feelings, so just leave it alone! FWI, Maybin has a bigger upside then Pie. Pie does have the ability to be above average.
  8. It's amazing how quickly this thread went to (bleep)!
  9. I like Guillen. He would be a good upgrade offensively. I don't know how his defense is at SS, I know he's had some injury issues.
  10. Bradley's good when he's healthy. He's just never healthy. You mean to tell me that depending on Bradley to hold down RF or CF in a year in which he's coming back from a major knee surgery is somehow a good idea?!?! The guys never been healthy, but you in all your knowledge think it's a good idea to hand him RF/CF coming off a major knee surgery! I'm LMAO, son!
  11. So you'd give Pie up even if you didn't have to? Like I said, Pie wouldn't be my offer. While I see value in Greene, it doesn't mean that I want to see the Cubs give up Pie. I like Bradley and Fukudome as well, but I see Fukudome as the RF because of Pie. I see Bradley as the #4 if he's healthy. Trade for Greene..................... just don't use Pie to get him.
  12. Assuming Zook stays at Illinois................. He's going to be a legend in Illinois! I can't remember the last time I was this excited about Illinois football! Keep it up, Zooker! Not to pour water on the excitement. Lou Tepper was a great recruiter. Always had top 15 classes. Not saying Zook will end up like Tepper, but recruiting isnt everything. Of course Illinois fans couldnt wait to get rid of Tepper. I dont think they thought the next guy could be worse. Tepper seemed to get great defensive players. I didn't really have a huge problem with any Illinois coach until Ron Turner who was neither a good coach, or recruiter!
  13. Khalil Greene was Neifi Perez + HR's last year. EDIT: Oh, and About 80 more K's i don't think there's much wrong with having a shortstop who plays great defense and hits homeruns, even with a low obp. I'm not taking anything away from his SS defense, it's great don't get me wrong, but Greene never hit more than 20HR in any season, MLB or MiLB till this year. I'm sure if he weren't in SD he'd have had a dozen more HR and that's great and all but that OBP really hurts. He had 44 doubles, 3 triples, and 27HR and still managed to have an OPS+ of exactly 100, for a .759OPS. I'll take that at the bottom of the order, and at a cheaper price, in a heartbeat, but my befuddlement comes in why Pie is only worth Greene when Pie can develop into an above average offensive player (and everyone seems to think so, scouts and analysts included), while Khalil Greene is barely making the league average. dont even bring statistics into this discussion. Yes, boss man!
  14. If Fukudome ends up being Hideki Matsui, I'd be happy. I get the impression that he may be a bit better overall player though, which would be even better.
  15. I'd take Hideki, Ichiro, or Iguchi. Iguchi's obviously not the player the other two are, but he's an average 2B. Note: I wouldn't take him on this Cub team, but he's a useful player on a MLB team, IMO.
  16. SS is certainly a harder position to fill offensively, but not like it was in years past. I wouldn't be against a deal for Greene. I'd just be against giving up Pie in said deal.
  17. I view Pie as having more potential though. Not that I dislike Greene at all. I just don't see trading Pie for him. Secondly, with all the other "spare parts" why not trade a couple for Greene rather then trade Pie?!?!
  18. #-o I hope you're being sarcastic. How can you base whether or not a player "blows" on less than 200 AB? His early struggles mean next to nothing. He's still our top prospect. He pays attention to the minor/draft therefore he knows Pie will blow. I find that funny since Pie has done very well at a young age at every level. Certainly he could do better on plate discipline, but I don't think you can deny the fact that the kid can hit and play D.
  19. I was under the impression Soriano spoke some Japanese... he did spend some time over there, after all. He's not fluent so he doesn't get credit! LOL! From what I've heard about Fukudome his defense/arm are tremendous. Not Felix Pie tremendous, but above average. Fukudome D > Murton D That would be an upgrade, I suppose.
  20. How would anyone know? It's not like he's had a couple months to play. I'd be willing to give up on him if the Cubs were willing to give him the opportunity to play for a couple months and he proved he couldn't play. I believe Pie will excel at the ML level as he has at every other level if the Cubs make a commitment to let him play and develop.
  21. I like it all except trading Pie for Greene. I don't mind Greene. I mind trading Pie.
  22. We'd add a new language to the clubhouse that we don't currently have.
