  1. i don't really care if he's a douchebag to people outside of the clubhouse. by all acounts he's become a very good teammate and a good clubhouse guy. I don't really see his being a douche an issue unless it's inside the clubhouse. He also shouldn't argue vehemently at 1B either.
  2. That's just insane. I expected him to make a few bucks, but in my mind he's no ARod. Is anyone else shocked at some of the numbers being tossed out there for him?
  3. I won't mind rooting for Wood on the Indians. At least it's an AL team. :( One that routinely plays against the White Sox. And one that comes to Wrigley Field from June 19-21. How weird would that be?
  4. Very nice deal for the Mets. I, too, thought he'd command much more than that.
  5. I won't mind rooting for Wood on the Indians. At least it's an AL team. :(
  6. So can the Cubs sign Tex and Furcal and still trade for Peavy and if they come up short on funds just include them in the bankruptcy?
  7. Did Santo do steroids or something?
  8. I'd rather not have this thread go on for 400 pages. What did the Brian Roberts thread end up at?
  9. Eventually it will get done. It's 60 some days before pitchers and catchers report so the Cubs have time.
  10. How would that work if the Tribune filed bankruptcy before selling the Cubs?
  11. It doesn't get you in the HOF unless you get to 300.
  12. Damnit! I wanted the trophy!
  13. I suspect nothing on price of the deal? Ryan Dempster the person is one hell of a guy from everything I've seen. I think just about anyone here would love to go out drinking with the guy for a night. However, i'm not sure if I want him pitching on this team again next year with the money he's going to command. He was a big part of the regular-season success this year, but nothing in his career to this point shows that this was anything more than a fluke. Go after Peavy, or hit the FA market. It's freaking LOADED with arms that are far less of a gamble than Dempster. Who knows what to expect in this market. The one thing we have gonig for us is this year's market is loaded in good SP. If this was two years ago, he'd be getting 20 mil. The fact is he's only had one really good season as a starter and there's several options ahead of him. I think his value will be determined by how desperate the teams are that lose out on CC and company. I could see him coming back for 10-11 mil per on the low end, and I could see him going somewhere else for 16-17 mil per on the high end. I really think Demp wants to stay here, and he'll offer a sizable hometown discount depending on how the market develops this year. That would be Gary Matthews Jr. silly.
  14. It's still kind of funny that you pose with a rubber and your 7 kids.
  15. Not even. If Wrigley were cheering a World Series title, they'd feel it down in Springfield. Scott Eyre, Matt Stairs and So Taguchi (for the SECOND TIME) will get rings; I imagine the Phanatic will. Can Eyre vote the Cubs a ring?
  16. I feel bad for the Rays, but they're young enough they should be able to get back.
  17. Yeah, but Howell is AB. Now Price sits down.
  18. Rocco! Cubs should take a flier on him in RF!
  19. I don't see how this follows. Whether or not Wood at three years is a good idea is dependant largely on how well you expect Wood to perform, what you can replace him with and what you can do with that money otherwise. (If anything, bad contracts make it less feasible to retain Wood, because you have less salary flexibility.) As for the closer role - I think I saw someone refer to it as "useless" or somesuch. It's overrated, but far from useless. I think that's a case of the pendulum swinging too far in a reaction against conventional wisdom. I agree that bad contracts hinder team flexibility, but I would rather risk being hampered by a Wood deal than a Marquis deal.
  20. I'm with you on this one, Meph. As much money as Hendry has thrown away at mediocre players over the years it would be insane to not pay Woody. Give Woody 3 years. Even offer a 4th year that vests with appearances or something like that that rewards health.
  21. And the completion comes in between 4 defensive players that seemed to all be close enough to touch the receiver.
