  1. I'd take Kearns or Church. Idealy we could get them both to be platoon partners in RF. looking at their splits, that would be a heck of a platoon.
  2. Because there is no reason for Atlanta to make that trade and Lofton and Roberts are downgrades from Jones? Yeah, I really doubt Atlanta would go for it unless we threw in a really good prospect or something, but I'd much rather have Renteria/Lofton than Jones/Izturis.
  3. If we can send Izturis and whatever prospects to Boston for Crisp (assuming they sign Drew), I would be fine with letting Jones go. Cleveland and Colorado don't match up well for Jones, but possibly a three way deal could be worked out (Anaheim?). Or even just a three way for the prospects to trade to Boston. I don't see anything in Toronto that helps us (besides the obvious). What about Jones/Izturis/something else to Atlanta for Renteria? Then we could sign Lofton or Roberts.
  4. We both know you'd do that anyway. We are not making lastnight an every day occurance :) Well, we're all here tonight. And tonight I could drink, too. Haha, I think I'll leave it at that. Who knows the havoc that could be unleashed if the founder of the site gets riled up.
  5. Good to see the Murton-love....there can never be too much.

  7. Yes, please. I'll pay for the plane ticket and good-by card.
  8. I have a feeling the CF talk is just a bluff. I think Izturis and Jones are both gone.
  9. I'm not convinced he's going to be amazing, but for some reason I'm really excited for when Pie finally makes it on the Cubs. Probably just because I've been hearing about him for so long.
  10. Good news about Lugo, good news about Matthews.
  11. Similar early career stats, breakout seasons at the same age.
  12. So how long before we smear him and trade him for Hairston?
  13. I would be very happy with that. And the Cubs could be interested because his character issues arent nearly as expensive.
  14. Just a quick thought about the Cubs future salary: If the Cubs keep Murton around, and one of Pie/Patterson becomes a solid major leaguer, and a couple of Veal/Gallagher/rookies from this past year become solid major leaguers; I think we'll be fine financially even with Soriano's contract. As long as we can plug a few holes with guys from our system, I dont think Soriano will cripple us at all.
  15. Maybe people misinterpreted so I'll try to make it more clear: J.D. Drew is not playing for the Cubs in the near future. Period. You don't need stats. You don't need to know who likes or doesn't like him. The Cubs are not interested in signing him. They'll use the bulk of their remaining money on pitchers. So you're saying as soon as the Cubs sign him he's going to get hurt? I'm lost. I didn't say a word about him getting hurt. All I said is he's not playing for the Cubs next year. They have no interest in signing him. I was being a smart-a word....my apologies.

  17. Its starting to look like its 8 years, no options. I'm lazy and dont want to post links, but there are articles on cubs.com and rotoworld. You're kidding I hope because that would be a pretty nasty deal then. Thats the vibe I'm getting. I've seen no mention of options years in the latest articles. I saw Mr. Miles roaming a few minutes ago, maybe he can shed some light. I don't think anyone right now really knows. Kaplan was talking about option years though on the radio when the deal was announced, and so were a few other voices, so its not like we are the only people speculating that here. What it could be though is that those 3 are vesting years based on plate appearances. From a Cubs.com article : http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061120&content_id=1743683&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc "When the deal is completed, Soriano will be 38. Hendry wasn't worried that the outfielder would wear down. 'Those of us who know him and have watched him play, he's got a great body and takes tremendous care of himself," Hendry said. "Look at how our game has changed. There are a lot of guys 40 years old who are still playing. He's lean -- he's like a greyhound. He's some kind of athlete. That's a very young body for his age. Who knows if he'll be as productive at 38 as he is at 31?'" BRUUUUUUUUCE!!!!!
  18. Yeah, it's nice to keep him in the NL. "Single... no, double to center!" "ending a streak of 18 4-3 groundouts." "thrown out trying to steal third and Kent will come up with the bases empty....again."

  22. Imagine if Schmidt and Prior both matched their 2003 seasons.
  23. I was planning on going to bed early tonight....thats what happens when I have goals.
  24. Weenie! He cant even handle the mention of Bob Sander's name.
