but what can they do? we could have the 27 yankees and they wouldn't score. it's the cubs, not the players. I was playing a baseball video game from 04 a few days ago and played as the Cubs and just kept thinking, "how did this team not win the world series?" Its crazy. A lineup of Patterson (when he had a decent year), Walker, Sosa, Alou, Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, Gonzales, with a rotation of Wood, Prior, Zambrano, Maddux, Clement. That was such a good team and we didn't even make the playoffs. Substitute Nomar in for Gonzalez at July 31st as well. That was a pretty amazing team on paper. True, but I was thinking more about the team they started out with because then we started having all those stupid injuries and the Sosa saga started. Although a lot of that was the curse of Dusty and not the goat.

I can't believe I'm this mad at the Cubs this early in the season. I know its only the 8th game but they are simply maddening. These are the freaking Astros and they're pitching a freaking guy named Chris Sampson. We lost yesterday to freaking Woody Williams.....and Jones just freaking grounded out AGAIN! Holy freaking crap.

I wish that procedure from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was real so I could just forget that I ever loved the Cubs. I would teach myself to hate baseball and I could live a happy life.

I'm well aware that Jones had a good year last year, at least against RHP. That's why we should have traded him in the off-season. I'm more than happy to put Murton's .350 OBP in the 2 hole against RHP or LHP. Please stop with the Murton man crushes! I like the guy too but goodness, he'll get his chance. It's not like has been killing the ball or getting on base any other way. It's game 8. Doesn't he have an OBP around .350 so far? He hasn't been playing great and still has good numbers. Its only 8 games, but why not play him? Why does the fact that its game 8 mean it doesnt matter if he plays or not?

Before that DP I thought we had the best offense in baseball. After that DP, I know that we suck and will end up in last place. Thank you. Wow thats quite a stretch. I just said our offense wasn't great, which any rational person would have known going into the season. So anyone that thinks the Cubs will have a good offense is irrational? No a great offense... I believe that was my original adjective I think that any rational person would take "great offense we have right guys? Not so much" to mean more than just literally "not great".

Only 13 pitches even with the bad start, not bad.

It was just on the Cubs pregame. It said he had an MRI for an inflamed elbow and is missing another start. Seems more serious than the Cards were saying when they said he didn't even need an MRI.

This is the caption under the picture of Papelbon on the RedSox homepage: "Jonathan Papelbon three of the five straight batters he retired." What are they trying to say? Straight people aren't good at making contact? I'm so sick of the heterophobia in MLB.

Jeremy has a twin brother in the Boston system, to boot. Is the Cubs' Papelbon related?

Why even stick him in the pen? I'd rather see Cherry there. Just DFA him and get on with it. Maybe we could try to get something for him and Eyre.....if we throw in some sandwiches we might be looking at getting a C prospect in return.

What are the pitching matchups for the last 2 games of the series? I don't think we're facing Oswalt or Jennings. Good opportunity for a sweep.

Runs don't count til the 9th inning. ARod can have 10,000 RBI's in the first 8 innings but unless he bats over .300 with 2 outs in the 9th and down by 2 he's still a no-clutch hack.
